Well we traditionally have a thread - so I am starting one.

All mothers of contestants are strictly (!!!) barred!

I'm rooting for JJ Chalmers! (I hope that's his name)

TerriBull Sat 24-Oct-20 21:02:32

I wasn't going to watch it this year, but succumbed. Thus far, this girl Maisie, who I gather is in Eastenders, I don't watch it, was very good, so was Nicola, but it's early days. Bill Bailey is on now, who is really so talented in many areas it matters not one iota if he isn't an excellent dancer, which he isn't it seems

Whitewavemark2 Sat 24-Oct-20 21:07:39

Bill Bailey???? Made me smile the whole way through!

Sparklefizz Sat 24-Oct-20 21:09:26

HRVY - excellent!

Sparklefizz Sat 24-Oct-20 21:10:35

No one else could have done that jive tonight.

TerriBull Sat 24-Oct-20 21:14:56

Hrvy minus the vowels who looks about 15, well we all had energy at that age, Who is he ?

TerriBull Sat 24-Oct-20 21:15:35

I meant to say he's definitely one to watch.

Sparklefizz Sat 24-Oct-20 21:18:54

I think he's a blogger or "influencer" or something.

Sparklefizz Sat 24-Oct-20 21:19:49

Just googled him - he's 21 and a singer and presenter.

That was high quality for a first night. Craig bringing out his 8 paddle so early in the series must bode well. Caroline got it off to a good start - great posture and never put a foot wrong that I could see. I wonder if she will feel as at home in a latin number. Likewise, HRVY might be less assured in a waltz than he was in the jive. It looks as though the series will go from strength to strength.

merlotgran Sat 24-Oct-20 21:25:21

It's just what we need right now.

biba70 Sat 24-Oct-20 21:27:49

yes, enjoyed it very much.

EllanVannin Sat 24-Oct-20 21:28:59

Considering it's early days they were all pretty good overall.
I still say that Jay McGuinness's jive was the best ever in 2015.

GrannyGravy13 Sat 24-Oct-20 21:35:16

For a short moment in time it actually felt like a normal Saturday evening.

DanniRae Sat 24-Oct-20 21:38:39

Really enjoyed having Strictly to look forward to on a Saturday night grin

HRVY - a maze ing!! Got a 9 and 2 x 8 for his jive. Very promising! Great to see Strictly back. A bit of escapism from all this blessed COVID stuff. It certainly took my mind off things for a while. However, I’m just wondering what will happen when the “lifts” come into the dances further down the line. Surely Katya Jones won’t be able to lift Nicola Adams (if Nicola gets that far) as, without being too personal, I think that Nicola weighs more than Katya. Or will Nicola lift Katya?!

Charleygirl5 Sat 24-Oct-20 21:57:58

Maisie whoever she is is definitely somebody to watch but she like HRVY, has youth on her side. He had never heard of the jive- I could hardly believe that. I did enjoy the American footballer whose name escapes me.

I thought Caroline Quentin would be out on week 1 but I was so wrong. Anton's partner will be out next week I think. Anton looked very suave with his greying hair, much better than the dyed black.

Don't like people with silly spellings of their names, but that gives was brill!

phoenix Sat 24-Oct-20 22:08:17

JIVE!

Damn tablet!

Puzzler61 Sat 24-Oct-20 22:16:00

A very enjoyable start to the new Strictly season.
There were some really well choreographed dances and great performances for a first show.
Lovely to have it back to “light up” our dark Saturday nights.

JIVE!

Damn tablet!

You like the jive Phoenix. There was an occasion in Glasgow when an audience member couldn't get his head around two geriatrics jiving.

Just watched on iplayer.

Hrvy's jive was amazing (bet he went to stage school) but I wish he'd put the vowels back in his name, silly boy. Loved JJ's waltz - is he the injured soldier, a friend of Prince Harry? The American footballer was great, too. Caroline Q was good although she doesn't look fit enough to tackle the faster dances. I thought Nicola was great, such energy! I'm wasn't sure about two women dancing together but it turned out well. I suppose we'll have two men together next year. I think it's better without Bruno. Three judges are enough.

I'm not a fan of the BBC at the moment but I think they did well to put on Strictly this year and the lack of a noisy, shouty audience was actually an improvement.

dragonfly46 Sun 25-Oct-20 16:16:57

I loved it and thought they all did well. I felt the format worked well also.

phoenix Sun 25-Oct-20 16:37:13

Caroline did well, but was a bit "loveyesque" in the interview bit with The Fringe after. Tears and gurning.

fevertree Sun 25-Oct-20 17:28:14

I just watched it on iPlayer, what a treat. Agree three judges are enough, and Shirley and Motsi are such positive, lovely people. Craig can be the foil (if he must smile ) and Bruno is not needed.

Lovely sets, and as has already been said, just what we need.

Ellianne Sun 25-Oct-20 17:37:13

Loved JJ's waltz - is he the injured soldier, a friend of Prince Harry?
I enjoyed his neat waltz too, and his partner is pretty.
I really hope they don't get Prince Harry to join in a video about the army from afar. I think a lot of people have the hump with him leaving and it could back fire in the votes.
