I started watching this half heartedly last night as it has the same small pool of current popular actors and actresses in it, and one of them i am not really keen on. But to my surprise it drew me in. The setting of being underwater in a submarine is different and i am looking forward to the next episode this evening.

It’s non taxing Sunday evening entertainment, taken with a pinch of (sea) salt here.
Spoilt we were with Line of Duty…

I loved Line of Duty, my ex police officer husband saw bits and couldn't believe how ridiculous it was.

Love it! And so true! It’s getting pretty ridiculous.

I suspended all thoughts about reality and accepted most stuff until they put Suranne into a deep sea diving suit and this remarkable woman in spite of her anxiety, her fear of enclosed spaces and her absolute ignorance of safety factors bravely set out to rid the boat of nerve gas.
Then I just cracked.
You're right Where is Thursday when you need him Katek? And I very much fear Morse has had it.

Atqui Mon 20-Sep-21 15:05:14

KateK Absolutely agree with you . We have ex police and ex medical who criticise dramas for authenticity. I’m not wanting to watch a documentary about any of them!!
By the way , what’s the name of the nasty man in the hazmat suit who put DCI Silva in the whatsit?

Callistemon Mon 20-Sep-21 14:42:18

cue offstage shouts of ‘come in number 57, your time’s up!’
??

Callistemon Mon 20-Sep-21 14:40:45

Whether I’m held in rapt attention by the authentic (presumably) shots of a real sub underwater or trying not to envisage Fred Thursday (and hat) coming round the corner clutching his paper bag of luncheon meat sandwiches, I am being royally entertained!

No, it's not like an authentic submarine, it's more like an aircraft carrier inside.

But your reference to Fred Thursday and his sandwiches made me laugh.

I was told off for chuntering and to suspend any thoughts of authenticity - just enjoy it! grin

Katek Mon 20-Sep-21 14:36:27

Oh dear me! I suppose it all depended on what you wanted/expected from this programme-I just wanted to be entertained and it’s certainly delivering that! Whether I’m held in rapt attention by the authentic (presumably) shots of a real sub underwater or trying not to envisage Fred Thursday (and hat) coming round the corner clutching his paper bag of luncheon meat sandwiches, I am being royally entertained! (There’s merit in everything just some things you have to look harder for) As for authenticity, interior all wrong etc, it’s not something that could be filmed in a real sub, space just wouldn’t permit. Even a single cameraman and sound guy just wouldn’t fit, so the whole interior has been built as a set and I think they’ve done a pretty good job trying to fulfil the set requirements. The production company couldn’t really rock up to Faslane and ask to hire out a nuclear sub by the day ( cue offstage shouts of ‘come in number 57, your time’s up!’). I’m not particularly bothered if the interior/uniforms/conduct of personnel:etc etc are authentic or not, I wouldn’t know the difference anyway as I’ve never been in the navy! Er…….and I don’t think Indiana Jones, Jurassic Park. Independence Day, Star Trek, Star Wars etc.etc. were authentic! Just go with flow and have fun, it’s only a piece if TV drama after all.

Hang on a minute …..maybe good old Fred, Bright and Jim Strange could solve the case! I mean Bright shot a tiger…………grin

I'd like to see the out-takes!

It's a pity- what could have been an exciting series is turning into a farce.

Bring back Martin Compston, he'll sort it all out. Perhaps he'll walk out of the decontamination shower.

Oh if only!!!!grin

I do wonder how the actors got through it all without bursting into laughter. Do you suppose it took lots of takes?

Not believable, over dramatized these situations simply would not occur in a critical high security situation like nuclear weapons.
Moreover the police would be overruled from the start, we have to accept that failures do occur and are covered up, just like many organizations

Overruled on a murder? That is pretty horrific if it is true. Do you have any evidence that murders in the navy can't be investigated by the police?

I dozed off last week half way through and this week until the very end i started playing Solotaire on my phone. So many dramas are 'hyped' and as others have said become too far fetched to be believed. I find myself more and more watching catch up so i can select the kind of program i really enjoy, also watch Talking pictures and great classic movies more than ever. I have Amazon Prime but barely watch that so am thinking after Christmas i will cancel that and go back to Netflix.

Am I the only one to think it is a bit boring after all the hype?

The Navy is being portrayed as the enemy, in my opinion, so far.

However the battle between the Police and the Military is very interesting. Immovable object and an indestructible force. Surely the Military plays the trump card.

Let's see what happens, it may pick up.

This is possibly why the RN is being seen as the enemy, trust the BBC

I had trouble last week but was hanging on......this week, well what can I say but at least it’s penultimate!
But what I would say to purists about the medical/ police dramas etc, this does account for much of my family (me too)
Please allow for poetic license.

BigBertha1 Mon 20-Sep-21 07:02:43

This is all getting very silly now we both laughed out loud at last night's ending.

Calendargirl Mon 20-Sep-21 06:57:56

I had my suspicions from the start about the chap who came on board at the same time as Amy.
Wouldn’t talk to her and looked a right misery.

I've just caught up with this thread. .

The complaints about kack of authenticity make me smile. It isn't just submariners who have issues with tv programmes mis portraying them - DH won't watch My Family for the way his profession is portrayed.

My husband, retired police officer, won't watch any police dramas. My son, NHS, won't watch anything medical. I guess if they showed the normal, day to day boring stuff no one would be interested.

They seem to be overheating the plot.
They're all getting overheated now, Chestnut ?

trisher it pushed the boundaries of belief from the beginning but now it is completely in the realms of fantasy
(To coin another cliche ?)

What a load of piffle.

MayBeMaw Sun 19-Sep-21 23:04:44

Looks like Amy’s hair is finally going to look less than immaculate.
A sticky end for Suranne Jones?

trisher Sun 19-Sep-21 22:16:39

It's got even sillier. I really liked this when it started out but it's now pushing the boundaries of belief.
