I need to rant to someone about my postman!!!

Yet again I have to go & collect a parcel from my local sorting office because our postman is too damned lazy to knock on the door.

I saw him going down the other side of road as I was getting the shopping in from the car & he obviously saw me too.

5 mins later I was unpacking the shopping & I heard the post come through the front door. I finished putting the shopping away & went to look at post & there is the card saying no-one was in & I have to go to sorting office to collect my parcel which was too big to go through letterbox. I was all of 12' from front door- we have a bell & a knocker & I am not in any way deaf so I would have heard even a very quiet knock. He did not knock or ring bell at all.
This has happened more than once before & it is so flaming annoying as our sorting office no longer allows you to park there (in the customer spaces!)as it seems someone once (about 4 years ago) 'nearly' hit a postman while parking in the customer spaces. You cannot park on the main road outside so have to park in the town & walk up or risk parking on the road & getting a ticket.
If you complain (& I have been polite) they point out the many hand written signs around the office about being harassed by members of the public- which 'will not be tolerated'
Is this peculiar to our local 'service' or is it common practice?
I do try not to order from firms who use Royal Mail but this was the first thing I have bought from this company- even if I like it when I get it I probably won't use them again now.

OK rant over! I feel better now.

my post man always knock the door and if i am out they either deliver to a neighbour or leave a card and i can pick up from local post office. the one that gets me is the courier delivers, mostly hermes, they never knock the door and just dump the parcel on the door mat, i always put a note on order online to say knock the door as i have had parcels go missing.

I think parcel force are the worst. I have told them time and again to leave parcels with my (very agreeable neighbours, who I also take stuff in for), but they always take it back to the depot. I am out and about all the time due to work commitments. Other delivery companies always leave things with neighbours, so why not PF? They also seem to ignore the re delivery notice I give them. Grrr!

Old thread from 2017!

Most of the time our post is fine, but one morning I saw the postman coming up the hill. We exchanged waves, then I carried the shopping through, leaving the door ajar, then went back to the door. He was just busy writing a ‘not in’ card for my Bloom & Wild box, when I appeared. I took the card and the box.
It gave me chance to point out the doorbell which he hadn’t noticed. We’ve had no problems since.

Our posties come in a small van which they park up on the estate somewhere. They do the letter deliveries using the usual shoulder bags and once that's completed they go back to the van and delivery any parcels separately. This works very well, not all streets will need a parcel drop and it means the posties are not stopping and starting the van every time. Works just fine here, well done posties!

Our post seems to be in all sorts of trouble recently, 3 times have had post for other addresses and my neighbour got my post. I has a txt saying parcel to be delivered and cancelled 3 times and it never came, I saw the postie with the van and asked her if she had anything for me, she was very kind and said she had everything from the sorting office that day but nothing for me and suggested I go to the sorting office and ask about my missing parcel.
I went straight down there and low and behold she gave me not one but 3 packages all just sitting there.

I have a similar problem which is really annoying me. My postman is aware that I'm physically disabled and use a walking frame and he has obviously decided he can't be bothered to wait for me to shuffle to the door so puts a 'You were out' card through the letterbox and places the parcel in an outside cupboard on the side of the house.

What he doesn't know is that I'm currently housebound, convalescing after a bad fall and stay in hospital having broken my thighbone from hip to knee and haven't been able to navigate the three steps at the front door so have to wait until my cleaner comes every other week to retrieve it.

I'm really tempted to write to complain without identifying him.

This list is four years old. My postman comes at 6 pm, it’s a joke.

I think our postie does something similar, often see his van parked in the same spots. He's absolutely brilliant (and I'm not just saying that because he's gorgeous, which he is ?). I've told him to leave things in the porch if we don't answer the door, and he does. He knows we'll take in parcels for our neighbours. He often stops for a chat and he's always cheery and good tempered whether it's pouring cats and dogs or a heatwave. He's been our postie for about twenty years now.

We have a lovely postie too - Darren blush
He was out early this morning delivering the Water bill letters.
I wonder if they get extra for this? They deserve it.

Our postie is brilliant! Always smiling and happy and friendly. Each year I put some £ in the Christmas card for him. Give it to him before he is off for his Christmas break.

Exactly this ?

Not had any bother with post people and my Mum has a lovely postman who takes her RNIB talking book memory stick to post for her. We've not really had problems with delivery people and often take in for younger working neighbours. Only once when picture of item in not my door was sent. Company refunded then several weeks later it turned up. They told me just to keep it. Delivery man who brought Mum's pads took them upstairs for her and Sainsbury's drivers often take delivery into kitchen which I'm not keen on but Mum has memory loss and doesn't remember they are not supposed to and has a special "I can't lift them in, I'm too old" voice so it's probably easier for them to just do it.

My post girl is very good. She knows to leave parcels in a safe place. The other one ,for some reason, never puts the letters through the slot. He pushes them half way and they hang there letting all know the house is empty. He has been told but still does this.

I have just moved to a new maisonette and there are 4 neighbours front doors facing each other. I gave our disabled postie £10 with a Christmas card. He has a strong limp. He looked shocked. Next year will be double. I am not well off but when I have a tracked delivery I just tell him on the intercom I need to get a coat and walk downstairs and he just leaves it on the doorstep. If I was well off I would give a much larger tip.

How do people find these threads from 5 years ago if I look for something from 6 months ago it’s disappeared!!!

I find if you are not standing behind the door when they knock they just go after about 2 seconds I could be upstairs and rush down and they have gone. Also my postman keeps posting next doors letters in my letter box.

Chardy Sun 16-Jan-22 08:40:54

Sorry CraftyCat that everyone hasn't got a wonderful postman like mine.

We live on an entry road into a housing estate with a few cul de sacs off it. The road name is also a gardens, a crescent and a close, and for a while after our regular postman left, we, and a lot of our neighbours started getting the post for the corresponding house numbers at the other addresses. We made the postman aware of the mistakes but it kept happening so in the end we advised the sorting office - they must have had a word because apart from the odd letter, it stopped. We’re all different postcodes so I still don’t understand whether he was confused or just lazy.

The same thing still happens with deliveries and I’ve now given up complaining because seemingly the various carriers are incapable of rectifying it - we’ve now got the phone numbers of the corresponding house numbers at three other addresses so they can collect their parcels, and in a few cases, food deliveries !! Amazon are the worst - they ring the bell and leave the parcel on the step and by the time I get to the door they’ve gone.

I also sometimes have my parcels left at other addresses with photographs of someone else’s doorstep uploaded as ‘proof of delivery’. Nightmare.

Have sympathy. He may not be lazy. Like many an organisation saving money or supporting ill health of staff, the individual rounds are often far too demanding.

Lilyflower Mon 17-Jan-22 11:13:08

We love our postie. Just saw him after a long absence and the poor bloke had Covid.

The OP's curmudgeonly postman is giving the service a bad name. She should write a letter of complaint and also speak to him if she feels brave enough.

Their search facility must be better than mine

I've taken to writing to companies and telling them that I would have liked to buy from them but the use of Royal Mail makes it a problem. Sometimes, they will post using a different company. I would like to be a loyal RM user but until they better their service, I can't stand the stress they cause. In the old days, my postie would happily sign the docket if it needed signing, would leave post in a safe place and knew if an envelope was wrongly addressed. That changed when RM kept changing the rounds and the service deteriorated with it. Last week we got Christmas Cards which had been posted in plenty of time for Christmas. Some of our recent post has been nibbled by rodents. We know it is not happening at our end so the mind boggles!

leeds22 Mon 17-Jan-22 11:19:02

Our post lady is lovely, so is our Hermes delivery man. They will call back later if we are out when they deliver. A neighbour even found a parcel in their locked garden shed - no idea how the postie managed it!
