The foreign media seem to think we only have ourselves to blame for the current shortages because we voted for Brexit and I totally agree. The current posturing of this hopeless government says it all and the fact that Boris is offering temporary visas to foreign drivers is pathetic and an admission that it’s Brexit that has caused the current problems. Please try to convince me that Brexit has been good for our country - I’ve been angry about it since 2016! www.theguardian.com/business/2021/oct/03/only-yourselves-to-blame-uks-shortages-seen-from-abroad

It might have if a remain voter didn’t advocate mass genocide for those who voted to leave…

Oh look, a squirrel.

Lucca

the far left contributors on here

Like who ? Anyone who voted Remain? Anyone who doesn’t approve of Boris etc ?

Having voted Lib Dem more often than not I suddenly find at the age of 71 I must be a far leftie? I am singing the Red Flag as I write.

So am I , apparently.

Eviebeanz Mon 04-Oct-21 10:51:38

I know that nobody was "made to leave" but in the broadest sense of the term it would have felt as if they could not stay.
However, we shouldn't think that we can go back to how things were. We should be able to acknowledge our thoughts and feelings on the matter and accept the current situation.
I'm hopeful that as the furlough scheme is ending those affected will have their original jobs to go back to. If, as some suggest, they may not and that the end of the furlough scheme will shed light on the true employment/economic situation, I hope they could be offered retraining to be able to take up some of the existing vacancies if they would like to do so.

GrannyGravy13 Mon 04-Oct-21 10:52:32

Haven’t seen any of the remainers objecting

I have been told it’s banter and that I am a snowflake by remainers for objecting…

maddyone Mon 04-Oct-21 10:53:45

Possibly yours is too.

“I’m in America and it’s very interesting how news about the UK is reported without the bias of British newspapers or the nervousness of the BBC. Britain’s petrol crisis is a direct consequence of Brexit - this is just an accepted fact everywhere (except where it’s happening).”

This sentiment can be seen throughout the world.

There isn’t a single country that considers Brexit is a benefit to the U.K. NOT A SINGLE COUNTRY.

That must surely make Brexiters wonder?

Alegrias1 Mon 04-Oct-21 10:54:39

I've never voted Labour in my life.

Am I a far leftie?

Listening to Frost from MaizieD's link. How can anybody think that what he's saying is true? My only hope is that we are at some point soon going to reach rock bottom, then the only way is up.

Kandinsky Mon 04-Oct-21 10:55:18

I reported it GG 13.
HQ will take a look and decide what to do about the post ( and poster ) and indeed anyone else laughing off the killing of 17 million people.

What worries me more?

A single contributor on a Social Media site who makes an unacceptable joke about part of the population, or a man who is held up as the saviour of us all for his intellectual and negotiating abilities, lying to the party in charge of the country and pretending they are the victims?

Whitewavemark2 Mon 04-Oct-21 10:57:49

maddyone Mon 04-Oct-21 10:58:33

I have voted Labour. I have also voted Liberal Democrat and Conservative. I vote for what I believe is the best for the country at the time. So I’ll put my hand up, I’m a floating voter.

Like I said upthread if this had been directed to Jews, Muslims etc it would be deemed a hate post totally unacceptable and not in the spirit of GN

No way did it contribute to the debate, and the fact that few other posters can see/understand that I find worrying. What other hate/racist posts would you agree with?

OK, so its been reported. I expect it will get deleted. As for suggesting that I might agree with hate/racist posts, I find that beneath you GG13.

Well it seems to be good for the very wealthy who have made a killing in tax avoidance, and hedging.

So I suppose that can be considered a benefit, although their wealth is mostly held off shore and no tax comes to benefit the country, so the benefit is very limited.

Pandora papers. Interesting to see what else will transpire. And Amersi as well. So much legal corruption here although many just choose to ignore it. Behind closed doors …..

Whitewavemark2 I am not a snowflake as you suggest.

My moral compass is not set in a way that I find Jackiest funny or acceptable it amounts to a joke referring to mass genocide?

Read what I said. I didn’t say that you were a snowflake??? I said that your comment was snowflake-y.

And then the wealthy have the nerve to complain about any rise in tax that affects them.

They take us for such fools.

^Anyone who things David Frost some sort of intellectual giant should question his negotiating skills in the first place.^

Funny you should mention that, Lucca because Frost is getting a bit of a pasting on twitter at the moment.

Apparently he's just told the tory conference that the NIP is a terrible thing and that it was the Remainers that made him do it. In view of all the statements he made at the time that the 'deal' was being trumpeted as the best thing since sliced bread, which are being highlighted on the thread, he is certainly a past master at mental gymnastics, even though his negotiating skills leave much to be desired.

Quite legally, I believe.

While the Tory donor Amersi was involved in a corruption scandal involving Uzbekistan.

Your point? Or is it just another squirrel?

Many ordinary people feel powerless to do anything positive to influence change. No wonder education for the masses only focuses on a narrow education base, accepting the status quo.

There is a whole thread about the Blair stamp duty thing.

There is a whole thread about the Blair stamp duty thing.

Indeed there is.

Wonder why there isn't mention of the practices of tax accountants like Philip May, the former PM's husband.

Wonder why there isn't mention of the potential corrupt practices about tax avoidance that have gained the City of London its reputation as the world's money laundering capital.

£300k by Tony & Cherie Blair has been well highlighted by the media, but the offshore tax havens used by Tory donors and supported by the Government don't seem to get too much of a look in do they - wonder why?
