No not another one about Harry!

I was just reading an article about Katherine Ryan stand up comic, bantering with Jonathan Ross, never a good idea given his track record. I stopped watching him ages ago I really don't like him. Anyway back to Katherine Ryan, admittedly I've only ever seen her on WDYTYA so I can't say whether she's funny or not It was reported among other things , she said this "her husband would sometimes abandon her to play golf as she has only 3 holes as opposed to 18" If a man said that I'd regard him as a sexist pig, so is it any better to hear that from a woman. Personally I don't think so, nor do I find such crassness remotely funny, just poor taste.

I'd be interested to know what others think.

“Look at moi!” 😁 My daughter and I used to say this to each other if we were bickering, always made us crack up. We loved K and K.

VioletSky ‘no shit Sherlock’ is a reply to someone who is stating the bleedin’ obvious.
Like ‘you don’t say!’, but with the added bonus of the insinuation that the stater of the b.o is not in fact the genius super sleuth with in-depth insight into the human psyche that they believe themself to be.
It’s sarcasm

VioletSky Mon 09-Jan-23 07:15:34

Yay

Calendargirl Mon 09-Jan-23 07:52:15

My late mum used to describe many comedy acts as “so-called comedians”.

Have to say I agree with her, and don’t really watch any much if I can help it. Don’t like Jonathan Woss, (I can’t say my r’s either) or Sarah Millican. To me, they just aren’t funny.

Iam64 Mon 09-Jan-23 08:40:59

Oh I like that Calendargirl, ‘so called comedians’

Yes, it's a well-known saying, but yes, to someone who has stated the bleedin’ obvious.
Not rudely, but jokingly as in:

they make these stories up for laughs
Really??
^ no shit Sherlock^ 😂

Humour is a very subjective thing, so while some people may not like what they describe as 'so-called comedians', others may find them very funny indeed. And bear in mind that some may be totally different on stage in a stand-up show to how they may come across on television.

Mollygo Mon 09-Jan-23 11:16:21

It’s strange the way different ‘comedians’ or ‘funny sitcoms’ appeal or don’t.
For me, anyone with the surname Carr-not ever funny. Eddie Izzard and Jon Richardson, not remotely funny.
John Bishop-very funny at the theatre, not always on TV. Billy Connolly funny live and on TV.
The Royle Family was on my ‘not funny’ list, until I watched it with DD-and then we carried on watching because it suddenly was funny. (No idea how that happened).
I used to like Jonathon Ross when I first saw him, but he grew less and less funny.
But inexplicably, for the DD who liked the Royle Family and several posters on here, I like Michael McIntyre.
Victoria Wood lived near us and I suppose partly why I liked her was because she was lovely when we met her.

Generally, I find Michael McIntyre annoying but his skit about flat feet had me howling with laughter, it was so true 😂

Katherine Ryan told a rude joke, why watch someone who’s humour you do not like on a programme with a host that you also dislike?

I didn’t! grin

Nellietheelephant Mon 09-Jan-23 12:15:46

Talking of over-sharing... What about Prince Harry? Obviously not in the crude way, but do we need all that personal stuff aired everywhere? No - I know I don't HAVE to watch/listen!

Shropshirelass Mon 09-Jan-23 12:17:03

I agree, not funny. I don’t find many female comedians funny. Funny is so much better without be smutty, not necessary.

Ailidh Mon 09-Jan-23 12:20:12

I had always avoided Mrs. Brown's Boys, as that seemed to me the epitome of vulgar. (Which doesn't mean it's wrong, just that it doesn't appeal to me).

However, I was caught five minutes of her giving herself a Brazilian in the cupboard under the stairs, and I was absolutely hysterical, it was so funny.

Never seen another episode, though.

Bazza Mon 09-Jan-23 12:21:34

I thought Dinner Ladies was brilliant, mostly female cast. I’m no prude but don’t find many jokes about bodily functions funny whoever is telling them. Everyone has their own idea of what is funny, but I defy anyone not to laugh at Del Boy falling through the bar.

Bazza Mon 09-Jan-23 12:26:55

Ooh yes, and just to go back to the original post, why does Harry think the world either wants or needs to know how and where he lost his virginity?

Neilspurgeon0 Mon 09-Jan-23 12:42:33

So can I Blondiscot but not a single one of them has ever appeared on television. I am married to an exceptionally amusing lady and related to quite a few as well, but none of them need to resort to vulgarity to be amusing.

nanna8 Mon 09-Jan-23 12:43:15

Pass the sick bucket! Talk about immaturity…

nanna8 Mon 09-Jan-23 12:44:09

That was referring to Harry virginity escapades, by the way.

Gabrielle56 Mon 09-Jan-23 12:47:31

Dislike Ryan/ horribly vulgar Rosie Jones (why nobody told her that filth isn't the way to be accepted as a minority comedian! Being actually funny IS) any females that bang on and on about the very most intimate bits of female anatomy and sound to me like adolescents bragging about sex they haven't had! Female funnies? Victoria wood bless her /Andi osho / Zoe lyons.i used to like cunk but her new series is embarrassing and zero funny.

JPB123 Mon 09-Jan-23 12:48:41

I can’t bear the woman! She isn’t funny, just crass, self centred
and should go back to Canada,or wherever she’s from.

Oh dear.

Wyllow3 Mon 09-Jan-23 12:50:29

Plenty of other places to talk about H, let's keep him off this thread as it exlvcily stated it was NOT for this.

I like good political satire, from male or female!

Wyllow3 Mon 09-Jan-23 12:50:59

correction, "explicitly".

Gabrielle56 Mon 09-Jan-23 12:53:37

Slebs have the biggest egos and usually the lowest IQ ! True comedians and truly funny people have effortless humour (funny bones) and usually very high IQ rating. There's a big difference between talented people and famous people. As for Harry's bragging? Sounds like a LIE à là WILTY game show! It's straight outta cider with Rosie and probably concocted by his z list Missus'playbook - like her ridiculous curtseying parody she expects us all to believe!!!! He probably had an encounter with someone trusted/ approved by palace as used to be practised just so no danger of a "kiss and tell" surfacing later! Sounds bonkers(!) But- "TRUE"

Grantanow Mon 09-Jan-23 12:56:28

Keeps them in the public eye so they can continue to cash in on their 'celebrity'.
