Men asking questions from another room!

Haha I know. Mine does it all the time. It’s very annoying.

I know too. My OH does this.

What most annoys me about it is that he is very hard of hearing now, so even if I can hear him, there is no way he will hear my reply!

What I haven't worked out yet is whether he 'forgets' that he won't hear my answer, or if he actually expects me to get up and go through to whichever room he is in.

Whichever it is, it is frustrating, though almost certainly as much so for him as for me.

Same in our house! Drives me potty. I'm expected to get up and go to wherever he is. I keep telling him to book a hearing test but he just smiles. He'll happily go to the opticians but won't admit he's hard of hearing.

I hear DH when he does that, but my selective hearing decides whether I want to respond or do as he’s asking.

It's not only men....DD has the exact same habit and even shouting back to her "No, Can't hear you" is no deterrent.

She says it's while the query is on her mind so she doesn't get distracted & forget what she was going to ask, which is fair enough I suppose but still very annoying.

I do that. I pose a question to DH and he answers: I heard you say 'Fred' and then it sounded like nnnnnnnnn.

We both do it! Guilty as charged The stupid thing is when shouting from another room, we almost know the likelihood is the other person won't hear, it's a sort of idiotic hope that they might glean the gist. My stock answer to o/h when he's doing it to me is "no didn't hear any of that just a noise" Damn cheeky of me really, given I do the same

Not guilty! Himself standing opposite me. I ask a question, obviously within earshot, THEN he walks into the next room, closing the door behind him, whilst still uttering the answer!! When I ask for the answer later, he gets really cross and says that he has already told me!! Grrrrr...

My husband talks while in another room and expects me to hear!!!! It is so frustrating! Then he gets irate if I don’t answer him?? He reckons I deliberately ignore him. Now he has been diagnosed with vascular dementia. He seems to get more irate. I am determined not to react - our bedrooms are next to each other - and he expects me to keep getting out of bed to address his needs or answer him. When I DO respond, he can’t hear me anyway as he is quite hard of hearing and doesn’t have his hearing aids in.

My OH does this all the time: walking away fom me, going downstairs, when he's downstairs and I am not. And then he wonders why I get annoyed.
As a child I was trained by my mother that if she called my name I was to go to wherever she was in order to find out what she wanted, so OH's habit annoys me as I feel obliged to go and find out what he wants, but why should I? It's up to him to come to where I am and speak to my face if he has something to say.

…but why is it that when they are talking to us from another room we are the ones who go to them and they don’t come to us?! 🤷‍♀️ I am in Rebellious Mode nowadays and just yell, “Can’t hear you!” and await his reaction! 😆

Even worse is when you go to them and ask what they wanted they reply 'doesn't matter'

Me too. When he asks about it later I just say 'oh well I didn't hear you. The dishwasher/washing machine was probably on'.

I have never been one for bellowing from one room to another or up and down the stairs - like a fishwife (no offence to fish wives) My parents didn't do it, so I never do.

If I want my DH I will go into the room he is in. However, he will shout from one room to another. I usually say, 'I can't hear you', and wait until he comes in to the same room or I go to him. Which one it is depends on my mood

They only expect you to go to save them, because you've foolishly trained them thats what will happen.

Just stay put, go totally silent and don't respond. Be unexpected.

I don’t answer. He is hard of hearing so even if I answered he probably wouldn’t hear me.

My late husband used to call me from the garden! He’d shout my name and wait for me to go out and answer him! Never crossed his mind to actually come inside to speak to me! When I asked him about this his answer was usually that I would be upset if he trod dirt into my kitchen, even if he was sitting on the bench reading the paper! It became a standing joke with our lovely neighbour, who would usually shout over the fence ‘ two sugars in mine please’ ! I was actually chatting to my neighbour yesterday and he said how quiet it was without him. I sincerely wish he was still out there shouting my name now . Cherish every moment all even the annoying ones 🌹
