What are you making in the New Year? I'm going to have a stab at making crocheted socks. Wondering what other crafty grans are planning to make this coming new year.

I've just found this thread and have enjoyed reading about everyone's lovely projects.

I just need to sew some buttons onto a cardigan I knitted for my 1yo granddaughter. The yarn is Sirdar Crofter, which is multicoloured and knits up like fair isle. Very pretty.

I've now started a crochet blanket using yarn in my stash. I've a lot of cream wool so the base is cream and I'll use different colours to make stripes through it.

Elegran, Yup! Did it last night trying to find the right colour wools from my stash to do a tiny tapestry patch. Now, of course I need to tidy it again.

Hi - I’m new to Gransnet. What a great forum! I took up pottery about a year ago and can highly recommend it. Potters seem to be lovely, calm people and I’ve made lots of new friends as well as some interesting pots. Clay is sooo lovely to handle too. Pottery is a totally absorbing, creative activity - much better than therapy!

I posted this in the kitchen the other day - here’s my Christening quilt for my GD. It incorporates lots about her family and what I wish for her in her life, in a fun way. It took a long time....and my DD has recently told me she’s expecting number 2.....I’m already planning the next quilt. ?

Welcome Millie and well done Mamissimo your Christening quilt looks great.

I’m knitting my granddaughter an Aran cardigan, then I’ll get back to my own Aran jumper and finish sewing up two jackets.

Your quilt is fabulous Mamissimo - well done!

Stuffing and sewing up my pirate - 42 separate pieces so a major operation! Will take at least another whole day.
I hope he's going to look sufficiently swashbuckly and ruffian-ish when he's finished. His beard is certainly worthy of a prize ruffian.

Billybob4491 Fri 25-Jan-19 17:21:36

I have just remembered you are making a Pirate Witzend, can you post a photo when completed please?

Witzend Sat 26-Jan-19 09:13:47

Will do, BillyBob - not sure he's going to turn out as good as Alan Dart's, though! His hands don't look quite right and his boots are enormous! I've done his frock coat in a much brighter red, too.

Billybob4491 Sat 26-Jan-19 16:49:41

Sounds good to me, just knitted an Easter hat for a baby complete with bunny ears!

Witzend Tue 29-Jan-19 16:55:57

Sounds lovely, BB! Any chance of a pic?
I once knitted a 'cat face' hat for baby Gdd - was v easy but very effective.
Still sewing up my pirate! Instructions not the clearest - though it's probably me - have repositioned his legs twice since they didn't seem right. And sewing the 10 tiny bits of 'gold' frogging down his frock coat are taking time to get just right.
Still, no rush. Planning to give him to little Gds on Gdd's birthday in April, so he'll have something to open too - I think it's allowed for a still-only-2, and if it's not, too bad!

Never been able to post pics, still working on it. Your pirate seems to be coming along well, keep at it. Just had a request to knit more preemie baby hats, hospital stocks must be getting low again, overall I have made about 150 hats over the past year, could probably knit them in my sleep!

Mamissimo your christening quilt is just fabulous, so different to the usual 'baby' designs. I do a lot of sewing but have not yet made a quilt. One day perhaps! I now have to add bed throws and cushion covers to this years project list. I'd better get a move on!

I started another rag rug yesterday. This is a small simple one I made a couple of years ago. The present one will be larger and hopefully a bit more imaginative! Don’t expect to see it any time soon, though!

Witzend Fri 08-Feb-19 17:03:01

Horace Hardnose Hook!
More of a bashed-about nose, really - it didn't quite come right, but I think it adds a little something to his ruffianly appearance.

Greyduster Fri 08-Feb-19 17:18:12

Ooh, I do like him!

Ilovecheese Fri 08-Feb-19 18:20:58

He's gorgeous.

Shirleyw Tue 19-Feb-19 04:51:47

Love Horace hard nose hook, brill.

I knitted a pair of rainbow socks as requested by my GD and now about to make a dress for myself, Tilly and the buttons pattern.

ginny Tue 19-Feb-19 08:12:26

Finished this quilt at last. It’ a ufo that’s been waiting around for a few years !

Witzend Tue 19-Feb-19 08:59:10

Lovely quilt - looks as if a lot of very intricate work was needed!

Farmor15 Tue 19-Feb-19 17:37:23

Here are jumpers I knitted for my grandchildren recently. If anyone wants to know where I got the patterns, pm me - otherwise it might be construed as advertising!

ginny Tue 19-Feb-19 17:39:01

Some lovely work. Massimo , that quilt is a real work of art.

crystaltipps Tue 19-Feb-19 17:51:23

Some lovely work on here- love the quilts and the pirate! I’ve just finished a dress I started 3 years ago and forgot about it and rediscovered it when clearing out a cupboard. It’s black lace over a navy underdress. Best thing is I’ve actually got an “occasion” coming up so can wear it!
