Mum remained 39 throughout her life, she had a huge stroke at 87. Three weeks before that, as she had every Wednesday afternoon for many years, she donned her dancing shoes, put on a gorgeous, glam and glitzy frock, somehow put on mascara and lipstick, despite being registered partially sighted, called a taxi and went off to the afternoon of ballroom dancing at a local (stylish) venue.
I was a huge disappointed in some ways, that is absence of makeup, flat comfortable shoes etc but I know she loved me, she just wishes I loved Glam and Dancing in the way she did. Her favourite quote was from Ginger Rogers who said "I did everything Fred Astaire did, only backwards and in high heels"
I'll be raising a glass to mum on Mothers Day. I still find myself wishing I could buy her something, 10 years after she died. I'll take some flowers to the Church x
