Very well put rosecarmel. My experience exactly. Yet I won’t put up with it and they don’t like that. Last weekend I posted about being mindful of others and not knowing what harm you may do with acid words (something like that) which sunk quickly. I stand by that sentiment and would hope others have the compassion to see that too.

Going back to the OP perhaps some people lurk and enjoy reading but have no desire whatsoever to join in.

Judging by the names on the list of competition winners I did wonder if a large proportion of people join just so they can enter the competitions? I do know people who enter every competition they can find in magazines, online etc and are often very successful indeed.

I hope that doesn't sound cynical.

To add to that, it's not very often that we see a 'familiar' name on the list of winners and, if I do, I give a cheer!

I think there's a very strange form of English humour that involves being 'clever' and excluding people but pretending that it's all innocent and they're just 'having fun'. Very tedious, got better things to do with my Saturday morning but I do like to support earnest and honest posters. About time that GN closed this thread!

Actually, far from being an in joke, I was trying to include a new poster who is feeling under the weather at the moment and asked if she could join in - which surely is the whole point of this thread?

It reminds me of the scene from The Good Life where Margo broke down because she couldn't understand what they were all laughing at. It turned out ( and we all knew) she didn't have a sense of humour. It must be awful ???

I now think this thread is a waste of time. I have a dry sense of humour,but I think we have gone away from the question, and as the poster upthread said tedious.
One poster said about having a sense of humour by pass, that line is normally said by bullies who are taking the p... and no they are not clever. They pick on the weak, before anyone posts I am not saying bullying went on here, just a attempt to derail the thread because they did not like it.

yes Callistemon, now with an e ,but probably be gone again soon.I kept an eye on a couple of posters who were having a rough time to see if things worked out for them and wanted to post support so came back.Lurking though may be the way for me ,I certainly dont feel I fit with the "grans" on here in many ways .
