Do you wash cleaning cloths with normal laundry?

I always have. Everything goes in dirty, comes out clean is my thinking. But my daughter's just been round and saw me put a wash on and is apparently horrified. She puts a separate hot wash on for cleaning cloths. Am happy with the way I do it so not planning on changing but still curious as to what others do.

I use cheap IKEA flannels for my cloths and wash them at 90 together with tea towels and hankies with a prewash. Use washing soda as an additive because our water is so hard. All come out remarkably well.

I pop the dishcloth in the microwave for a minute during the day. Then put it in with the washing when doing tea towels etc.

I machine wash my cleaning cloths in a separate load, and my dog bedding is put inside a Moorland Rider Pet Bedding Wash Bag which keeps my washing machine totally free of pet hair.

I soak e cloths sponges floor cleaning cloths etc and wash separately in the machine as they don't 'work' if you use fabric conditioner.

Please stop using "disposable" cloths - they are NOT disposable! We have a duty and care to the environment. As long as you use soap, then germs will not survive - we don't wash our hands at 60 or 90 degrees and they are covered in germs. No need to use 90 degrees - ever! Again, think hard about what kind of environment/world we will leave our grandkids! (Rant over)

I put both in a with my whites , so they washed on a hot wash .

Well....another miracle....I'm still alive for all these years after simply putting my cloths in with the regular 60 degree all rounder. Ignorance (if it is) IS sometimes bliss indeed.

I'm afraid your p.ss..g in the wind with that message. People don't want to know ?

60 wash with towels. Not dead yet! Dish cloths are microfibre with a built in anti bac. Nothing disposable except an occasional paper towel for cat vomit. I hate anything single use that contributes to land fill.

Sister's go in a bowl with washing up liquid. I handwash those. Tea towels go with white sheets and white towels in the machine. I use J clothes for cleaning separate ones for bathroom they last for ages

sazz1 Sat 19-Sept-20 09:53:06

DUSTERS not sister's lol auto correct

Cabbie21 Sat 19-Sept-20 09:55:14

I put my tea towels and dishcloths in with my light coloured wash at 40 degrees, and my floor cloths in with my dark wash at 40 degrees.
Occasionally I do a 60 degree wash for light coloured towels but that is rare.
Never 90 degrees. Occasionally quick wash at 30 degrees for lightly soiled items, but I wouldn’t put dishcloths in with them.
Never use bleach, never boil anything.
Never had food poisoning.
Sometimes use kitchen paper towel for surfaces especially windows, but try to use re-usable cloths as much as possible.

Calendargirl Sat 19-Sept-20 09:55:47

Digressing , but my ‘quick’ wash is 1 hour 20 minutes. Not very quick. A proper wash is 2 hours plus.
My sister’s quick wash is 15 minutes.

Oopsadaisy Sat 19-Sept-20 09:57:19

That must be the most environmentally unfriendly way to clean anything think of all that waste in landfill. sorry to rant but its up to all of us to try harder

Cabbie21 Sat 19-Sept-20 09:57:49

My quick wash is 15 minutes but then I put it on drain and spin for 20 minutes unless very delicate.

NotAGran55 Sat 19-Sept-20 09:58:10

I wash my cleaning cloths separately as I don’t want any cleaning process, oil etc to transfer to clothing or bedding .

Very rarely use tea towels , only for the odd glass that doesn’t go into the dishwasher , these are washed with my whites As they are linen .

NotAGran55 Sat 19-Sept-20 09:58:54

* products not process

pce612 Sat 19-Sept-20 10:04:28

I don’t use cloths, just a washup sponge which goes in the dishwasher once a week to get clean.
Ecloths (microfibre) to wipe down worktops, clean one every day until there’s enough for a separate wash, no fabric conditioner.
Microbes breed on wet cloths, very unhygienic, same for tea towels.
As for throwing them away every day, I’m gobsmacked at the waste and impact on landfill.

soak them in hot water with fairy/washing powder let them stand for a while, and i use a 'posser' that gets them agitated, then rinse .far more eco friendly.I knew someone who lived on a boat, he used to put them in the shower basin whilst he had a shower, now theres a thought!

Alexa Sat 19-Sept-20 10:10:31

I put floor cloths i.e. old half bath towels, in the light coloured wash as they have bleach in them. If the floor cloths have fluff or large crumbs I rinse them first.
I boil dish towels on the stove when they come out of the washing machine.

TheFrugalPiggy Sat 19-Sept-20 10:11:40

All of my cloths go in with my normal washes. I do two standard washes "Lights and Whites" and "Coloureds".

Juicylucy Sat 19-Sept-20 10:11:40

Yes dish cloths go in the hot wash with other things like towels etc.

Bijou Sat 19-Sept-20 10:11:43

My help uses green scourer for washing up and
everything rinsed in hot water. tea towel changed daily and microfibres cloths for cleaning also changed daily. Tea towels and cleaning cloths washed with towels. My machine has maximum 60 Degree wash.
Sheets and underwear separate washed from clothing.
Nothing gets very dirty anyway and I keep well.

Whitewavemark2 Sat 19-Sept-20 10:12:30

Yes because I wash household linen at 95c as it is all white and heat keeps it a good colour, as well as the sun if course.

TheFrugalPiggy Sat 19-Sept-20 10:14:02

Oh and the dogs bedding is washed completely separately from anything else, and instead of using detergent I pour a little bit of bleach in the draw.
