How judgmental are you about people.

It's interesting in real life too to see how other people have judged something or someone in a completely different way.For example I know 2 people who have been very bitchy and selfish. I have judged that and do not want to befriend them whereas my friend thinks they have gone through troubles and do need support.

I agree kitty. GN is very judgemental.
In the past if I have offered an opinion on a topic it has been wrongly interpreted so now I keep my mouth shut.
Also as I age I have become much more tolerant - live and let live!

I haven’t read the full thread, but I will say that the only people that I tend to be judgemental of, are those types who are lazy and small minded enough to believe that they can judge others upon something so trivial and fleeting as their choice of flipping newspaper.

Gosh I think this is one of the more circuitous threads I've ever encountered on here. For me, with absolutely no recognisable conclusion at all. However I found a huge degree of redemption when I made it to Calmlocket's contribution. Terrific for me. Would that we all had even the smallest part of our minds open.

Kim most threads become circuitous, especially if folk such as me don’t read the whole thread.

As someone said upthread ( is there such a word) , we are all judgemental to some degree. What really annoys me on GN is comments that are patronising.

If this thread gets put in the Daily Newsletter, (which I think that it might) things will get even more repetitive!

pantglas2 yes it is and the Weekend Magazine for the TV is definitely the best one!

What doesn't annoy me is posters who say someone told me day is night, is that right? Can anybody explain?

The one thing you can be sure of is that opinions don't just materialise out of thin air.

Being judgemental is in our DNA. It goes back to early man: survival. Ie. Is he part of our tribe, no, then he must be another therefore our enemy.
Not much we can do about it really ?

Maizie but I’m not just talking about ‘opinions’, I’m thinking of people’s actual character and values.
We shouldn’t just dismiss folk, as if all the goodies read The Guardian and the scum lap up the DM.

Alegrias they may have done lots of research before stating that day is night, that climate change is not caused by human activity. The general consensus of climate scientists is that it is but that does not make it an absolute fact in the philosophical sense of the word. Lots of people say humans have caused global warming without having a clue as to the science. What I’m getting at is that we all believe things without necessarily checking it out for ourselves.

The one thing I hate is the rudeness and insulting derogatory comments that some post on here, just because someone expresses a different opinion or viewpoint. Politeness even when polemically opposed should be upheld. You might think someone is an idiot but why say it? It just puts the other person on the defensive and entrenches them in their viewpoints, so we have post after post on the same subject time and time again that gets nowhere except eventual deletion.

But some things are fact. 25Avalon. Your example of climate change. No matter how much people would like to think its all natural and there's nothing they can do about it, they are wrong. There's no arguments any more (There haven't been for a good 20 years, but that's another thread...)

At some point discussing "absolute philosophical fact" becomes a luxury. We can have a "philosophical " discussion about gravity, but its still holding you on the planet.

To be honest. I have no interest in converting people who have opinions that fly in the face of science or fact. There are some things that, if you believe them, then sorry, you are an idiot (not "you" specifically, you as in "one"). People have lots of ideas that I disagree with on here, but they are strongly held beliefs that I am not going to get involved with. But if you have an opinions on reality that can't stand up to a bit of scrutiny, I can't help that.
