I gave my nine-year-old grandson a reconditioned iPad for Christmas I also put some games on it for him and did it with my card had a huge discussion about it and the fact that he had better not do anything with my card because I would know and he would be in such trouble. Anyway today I had a text from my bank about unusual activity on my card went to have a look, oh my God I couldn’t believe it, two lots of £34.90,no make that three and several others including one for £89 something. ?‍♀️?‍♀️?‍♀️ I rang the bank and it’s not actually fraudulent but they are going to try and get me my money back they did explain that sometimes these kids get into these games and don’t know they’re racking up a big amount of money till the end of the game. I am annoyed with my grandson but I’m bloody furious with myself, anyway I’ve got to ring the disputes people at my bank tomorrow. I have not seen Oscar yet and when I do I will not rip into him but I will explain how disappointed I am and that I will never buy him anything for his iPad again..

Some of the pompous, condescending replies on this thread are worthy of a comedy skit.

They certainly gave me a good laugh tickingbird! I particularly enjoyed the outrage that the OP had had the audacity to cancel her own bank card! How very dare she! grin

I'm a cynic, valdali but I still managed to join Amazon Prime not once but twice!

Bibbity Mon 03-Jan-22 19:15:35

Again. I was in no way outraged. I just did not know why OP would do that when it was completely unnecessary.
Simply highlights how uneducated some posters are regarding technology.

MissAdventure Mon 03-Jan-22 19:16:44

And?
So what?

Bibbity Mon 03-Jan-22 19:20:45

Nothin I honestly could not care less. You are subscribing feelings and intent to my posts that do not exist. It's a big pathetic overall.

I just wanted to save OP time. She wanted to cancel her card. The faceless name on a screen can do what they like and it never affected my day.

I dont get it

Being unsafe and careless on the internet is an "oopsie dont beat yourself about it, no big deal"

However, a 29 year old adult temporarily living with her parents spends the night out and she must send a text so her mother doesnt worry?
The daughter was pretty much crucified for being inconsiderate and rude.

Did the the parents of the GS even know OP's credit card information was in the iPad?
It hasn't been answered at all by the OP

MissAdventure Mon 03-Jan-22 19:25:10

I expect that's because
A. The issue is sorted.
B. The op has no obligation to justify herself to rude people on the internet. smile

Oh dear, and thought I had known about technology since the mid 1960s.

I realise now how uneducated I am! ???
No, just rushing and it was soon rectified

What a rude comment. Shinamae was only looking for empathy and maybe to see if anyone else has had this problem

Never let a phone/lap top etc save your log in details and password if anyone else is likely to use it. Is that what happened?

Kids are kids, very often they should know better but it's so tempting. It's possible that he didn't realise if it was for in game extras etc. I would speak to him asking if he realised that these things cost but do express that it's your mistake having saved the details etc. He needs to understand how things work and the cost.

I can not form words that adequately explain how little what you think means to me.

If I am coming across that way to you it sounds like a you problem.

It would be interesting if you posted on Mumsnet as well Shinamae, to compare the reactions smile

Shinamae - I assume you mean that op has already spoken to her grandson or is there something else I missed.

Nothing like being ticked off on the Internet. hmm

Not curt at all, just pointing out that I am the original poster as you didn’t seem to realise that and a ? does not come across as curt in my opinion…

Thanks for this thread Shinamae
My DGS has just been given a second hand PS4 and I am trying to set it up.
He uses my iPad but can’t use my card as it needs my fingerprint or other security details that he has no access to.
This device is making me unsure so having read so many of your stories I have decided that I don’t know enough and will get my computer guy to come and set it up.
Money that will be well spent by the sound of it.

Shinamae Mon 03-Jan-22 20:29:21

Or maybe you can’t see the smiley face..

A very good idea, something I wish I had done but then hindsight is a wonderful thing…
