Bare feet - fine or yuk?

No cover them things up!

Can’t say I notice when we are at the beach but not where I usually live. Mostly at the beach we have BBQs so it is quite appropriate.

Feet, vulgar? As someone else commented, surely there could be far more 'vulgar' things to worry about? Having said that, I do like my slippers, so no bare feet in this house - but that's purely out of comfort.

Not something I want to look at some peoples feet are vulgar to look at they need covering up.

My husband goes barefoot most of the year and I invariably wear flip flops round the house. I wouldn't go barefoot to anyone else's house though.

DH and I don't wear shoes in the house or indeed the garden- haven't for years. DH has nice well kept feet and I have well kept feet but bearing surgical scars - bare feet are more comfortable for both of us nd we are carpeted throughout apart from the kitchen. However, I am mindful that other people may not enjoy the site of our unreconstructed hippy feet so we would slip on a pair of something if people who didn't know us came to the house.

If I'm not in high heels I have bare feet .I've even been known to walk to the shop 100 yards away in bare feet .Summer or winter I go outside in bare feet.My feet are great,no corns bunions or any other issues ,despite wearing 4 inch heels since I was 15.
They are feet for goodness sake! As long as the keep me upright whether other people like them or not doesnt even occur to me .

It would depend on the circumstances. If we were invited to someone's house I would expect them to have at least flip flops or similar slippers on. I've got to admit if someone came to our door in summer uninvited I would probably go to the door with bare feet. I walk around barefoot as much as I can. I would put sandals or shoes on if I had invited someone.
I can remember years ago being asked to a house for Christmas drinks and nibbles and the hostess had a pair of pink fluffy mules on, everyone who came into the room gave her an askance look.

I'm barefoot until it's too cold, switch to wool socks. My feet are as pretty as ever, toes painted nicely all year round.

My husband wears toe-in sandals in summer and NB in winter, specific pairs for in-house. He thinks his feet are ugly.

Our children, GC, GGC are round often - they're barefoot or in slippers kept here - I don't prefer dirty outdoor shoes inside.

Years and years ago I suffered from what might have been Plantar Fasciitis and the woman in the Scholl shop in Bournemouth advised me against walking around the house barefoot. She said I needed a slightly raised heel and a “footbed” sole . I do find that more comfortable and welcome the cushion soles of todays trainers.
My feet don’t warrant showing but I would never look askance at anybody else in their own home!

But almost all elderly people's feet are not nice to look at

As a nurse I've always looked after my feet - pumice stone, moisturiser, regular pedicures, etc. My sons are on pain of my haunting them if I'm ever incapacitated and my feet are neglected.

As a rule, I'm not fond of others' feet unless they're kept in good order - a friend is a podiatrist, a job I just could not do.

To me it depends on what you mean by "entertaining". To me that sounds like a formal occasion where I would expect everyone to be fully dressed including stockings and shoes,

However, if you just drop in, you cannot expect a person who habitually walks around her own home, as I do, in bare feet to rush to put on a pair of slippers, or shoes.

It surprises me that some of you consider feet vuglar.

I don't think bare feet are vulgar, I just don't like feet! It can be comfortable and even enjoyable to walk around with bare feet - think walking on warm grass - but not ncessaritly nice for other people.

I won't wear open-toed sandals to go out, although I will wear flipflops or bare feet at home in the summer. When I was younger, and thin (!), my feet were very boney and unattractive. For my age now, they're not too bad - more flesh on them - but I won't inflict them on other people if I can help it.

I'm glad to find I'm not the only person who dislikes feet!

If someone wants bare feet then they can. If I don't like the look of them it is up to me to look away not for them to cover them up just because I don't like the look.

What a weird thing to mind about! My only feeling would be envy. Not because my feet aren't presentable – they are – but because my feet are nearly always cold.

I sometimes do some scything in hot weather with bare feet. Before anyone shrieks, the scythe blade goes nowhere near your feet.

Dear god, I hope not - it's the first thing I take off when I get home. Never wear one in the house.

Ever since I fell and broke my back over 2 and a half years ago, my feet and legs have been terribly swollen, making wearing footwear very uncomfortable and sometimes painful. Consequently, I only wear things on my feet when I go out

So do I, and if I have visitors they have to accept me as they find me in my own home. I have only just started putting socks on because of the cold, but normally don't wear them. Only wear tights if going somewhere that it is appropriate to wear them. My feet are in pretty good shape for their 73 years and I do see a podiatrist occasionally just to keep a check on them after all they have had to carry me around forever.

None of my friends ‘entertain’ nor do I, if I called round in summertime and they had no shoes on I d not be bothered
Now my house is so cold I m wearing two pairs of socks The only room I m heating is only hitting 15 degrees so my feet would freeze without socks and more 😂 I ve got quite pleasant feet no bumps or lumps

my feet are so painful I cannot wear shoes. I am housebound so it doesn't matter, I never wear anything on my feet. When hospital transport comes to take me to the hospital as they did yesterday, I have a pair of 'slipper moccasins' i wear but even they hurt my feet and I can't wait to remove them. so if you came to my house I would have bare feet.

At this time of year, my feet are well and truly covered up, they get so cold so quickly. Now in summer time it’s a little different - no socks, but usually slippers or sandals on, otherwise I’d be stubbing my toes 😁.

I’m always in my bare feet or my Ugg slippers in the cold weather like now if someone turns up and have bare feet who cares rather bare feet than them wearing shoes in my house and stood in something unknown to them lol

I do feel the scrutiny that poor woman has suffered in this country has been well out of order!

Not sure why there is an aversion to bare feet, there's worse sights than that. Mine are safely encased in socks and slippers (indoors) atm because I'm sure I'd get frostbite atm as we're only putting the heating on twice a day. Apart from the current Arctic conditions, they are left to run free in the house (well shuffle more like) the rest of the time, restrained to sandals or shoes depending on the weather.

Interesting that BlueBelle has assumed this thread to be an “underhand Meghan slur”. Sorry, but this is a genuine question. Admittedly prompted by Meghan’s comments about her own style of entertaining.
I tend to be squeamish about bare feet so I was checking whether I need to ‘man up’ !
