First day of no carb diet.

Breakfast: bacon, egg, tomato and mushrooms.

Lunch: Turkey and vegetable soup

Dinner: Marinaded fish stir fried with vegetables and garlic, ginger and oyster sauce.

Why?
A certain number of carbs are good for you and give energy.
These fad diets are hopeless for real health.

That told you WWM2. grin

I had a ham sandwich on white gf bread with pickled red onion. Not good really.

My lunch today was whipped feta with chilli chickpeas and roast cherry tomatoes followed by duck leg with wild mushrooms and green beans. Dessert was rhubarb and citrus Eton mess.

I’ve been on a fast day, so nothing. For anyone thinking this is a fad, bad or mad, I’d refer them to my doctor, who also follows the 5:2. smile

Back in the day, my mother, who was always slim, would cut out bread and potatoes from her diet if she wanted to lose a few lbs. Everyone did in those days.

No fad - It worked.

Banana

Jacket potato with smoked salmon and cream cheese with side salad. In company with DGD and 8-month-ole DGGD who happily demolished a slice of cheese-on-toast.

My DH has been diagnosed as pre-diabetic. It is a blood/sugar diet which will be followed until his blood sugar is reading as normal. I expect to be on this for a maximum of 8 weeks, but we will monitor his blood/sugar levels and see. We did this previously with total success about 3-4 years ago. Since which he has followed a normal diet.

We expect to do the same again.

Does that help?

Day 2 of no carbs.

Breakfast: oatmeal porridge with plum compote (stewed with no sweetener)

Lunch: Feta cheese with beetroot and salad

Dinner: Aubergine and cauliflower Thai curry. (No rice)

I did that several years ago Whitewave for the same reason as your DH. Lost 2and a half stone and having kept on a low, not no, carb diet since.I have kept the weight off. Doctor says ‘ no further action necessary’ so as long as I keep an eye on what I eat I should be fine. Good luck to you and your DH, it is well worth the initial struggle.

Yes it is one of the most successful diets that absolutely pinpoints the problem I think. I would very highly recommend it to anyone with the same problem.

The added bonus of course is weight lose.

If anyone else is interested get the Dr. Michael Mosley “8 week blood sugar diet” book. The mechanics are explained in there.

We shall probably go onto the 5:2 diet once DH’s blood is under control - at least for a while to consolidate our weight.

It is entirely our own fault as since before Christmas, we have eaten out more than usual with DH having what I would call nursery puddings like sticky toffee etc, and then to cap that I have been rather too successfully experimenting with gluten free baking and we have been sitting enjoying afternoon tea on these cold dark days.

Oh well - lesson learned.

Sorry to go off piste! But at least it is about food.

It’s very interesting to me Whitewavemark, I’m trying to reduce carbs at the moment.

kittylester Sun 26-Feb-23 14:56:38

Sausage, mash, minted peas and onion gravy. We were due to go to the local bistro but decided to stay home instead

Whitewavemark2 Sun 26-Feb-23 15:03:39

Today

Breakfast: 2 sausages and 1 egg and tomato- fried.

Lunch: it was going to be salad, but it is so cold that I changed it to baked beans (sugar free) mushrooms and grated cheese. Pear and a handful of unsalted mixed nuts.

Dinner: chicken in red wine sauce and roasted Mediterranean vegetables.

DH has lost 2lb since Tuesday and he’s going to measure his blood/sugar on 1st March

HowVeryDareYou2 Sun 26-Feb-23 15:08:14

Pub lunch - chicken breast fillet, mashed and roast potatoes, carrots, cauliflower, broccoli (stuffing and Yorkshire pudding, which husband ate).

Fleurpepper Sun 26-Feb-23 15:51:01

Absolutely freezing here and the East wind makes it feel even colder. Been lazy, left over chicken curry with small tin of chick peas added, and rice. Stewed apples and custard for afters.

MiniMoon Sun 26-Feb-23 15:51:31

Bacon chops in sticky maple sauce with fried egg fried tomatoes and chips.
I had 6 chips as am trying to shave a couple of inches off my waistline.

Norah Sun 26-Feb-23 15:59:50

Roasted veg, hummus on toast, salad, apples after.

Maggiemaybe Sun 26-Feb-23 16:01:49

DH made us a proper breakfast. Bacon, fried egg, beans, tinned tomatoes, mushrooms, Linda McCartney sausages (we weren’t too impressed) and sourdough, so officially we’ve not had lunch.. Though I have nibbled my way through a hunk of cheddar, a banana, an apple, a pear and a handful of cashews while sorting out a teetering pile of old Sunday supplements. I feel a bit like the Hungry Caterpillar.

JaneJudge Sun 26-Feb-23 16:09:30

Roast Pork, crackling, stuffing, roast potatoes, cabbage, carrots, parsnips and gravy smile

JaneJudge Sun 26-Feb-23 16:12:09

whitewave, we had our health check this week and the nurse said our waists are too big blush she suggested fruit for breakfast and 3 totally carb free days a week, switching beer/wine to white spirits (yeah I know) and going for a 35 minute brisk walk a day and she reckons our waistlines will lessen...

singingnutty Sun 26-Feb-23 16:13:00

Kipper fillets and bread and butter. The fan above the hob is still on to try to get rid of the kipper aroma!

ginny Sun 26-Feb-23 16:15:50

MrsKen33 Sun 26-Feb-23 16:48:44
