Do you find it difficult to ‘treat’ yourself?

Is it just me or do others find it difficult to spend money on themselves? I know it sounds mad but I bought a box of fresh cherries in our local supermarket today and with my DH’s encouragement ate the lot! They were just divine. It seemed such an extravagance but we can afford it so why do I hesitate to ‘treat’ myself?

MissInterpreted Sat 27-Jul-24 18:45:43

Yes, I do. I always find it very difficult to spend money on anything for myself.

I used to find it difficult and would find ways to justify but no longer do that.

Same here Beechnut tho small treats usually.

GrannyGravy13 Sat 27-Jul-24 18:55:13

If it’s my money I am spending on me I have no reason to justify treating myself.

No and I tend to think bigger than a tub of cherries.

Grandma70s Sat 27-Jul-24 19:01:50

No, I find it quite easy!

RosiesMaw2 Sat 27-Jul-24 19:02:26

No!

Cossy Sat 27-Jul-24 19:04:16

No, never.

Never been a problem. It is the small treats in life that make life worthwhile.

Casdon Sat 27-Jul-24 19:31:40

No, I don’t feel guilty at all, I love treating myself. I often feel guilty afterwards if the treat was a cake though.

Callistemon213 Sat 27-Jul-24 19:44:21

When we were saving for a deposit for a house, when we had children then yes.

Not now, though.
Life is just a bowl of cherries 🍒

Enjoy the cake, ignore the guilt, Casdon
Just eat a lettuce leaf or two for dinner.

I used to but not any more.

We've always been overly cautious with the "big" spends (moving house, buying a much needed small car etc.) but I have learnt later in life that I can't take it with me! So small treats are my way of rewarding myself - and why not, if I can afford it and it doesn't harm anyone else? I've just bought myself some embroidery threads to use on my sewing machine, last of the big spenders grin

Marydoll Sat 27-Jul-24 20:49:46

I used to feel guilty. However, now that it is only DH and I at home, I have no problem. Having worked hard, it is my money to do what I like with.

We have been on holiday this weekend in Edinburgh and I have certainly treated my self!😉

GrannyGravy13 Sat 27-Jul-24 21:04:19

Marydoll I wouldn’t expect anything less from you 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Visgir1 Sat 27-Jul-24 21:18:30

That's a No from me too.

ginny Sat 27-Jul-24 21:21:20

Years ago with a young family I could not afford to treat myself.
Nowadays, I do treat myself. If I can afford it , I’ll have it.

HattieTopper Sat 27-Jul-24 21:44:47

No, I love spending money on myself. I ensure I give the legal amount of money allowed to our family each month by standing order as I prefer them to have it now instead of when I die. I treat them with meals out and treat our grandchildren as well. They take care of me by doing odd jobs for me and taking me out for the day so when I do go out, I buy myself jewellery, clothes, afternoon tea and have my nails done.

Yes I always have and always will.
I don’t need to anymore but old habits die hard and I find it very hard to really indulge.

I find it difficult. I think it’s to do with my mum being very frugal. I had everything I needed and more being an only one but money was king, both my parents loved saving.
We save a small amount each month, but I still struggle spending the rest. My family don't have the same problem the money they spend on holidays and meals out makes my hair curl !

As someone said, we can’t take it with us! OH has two quite expensive hobbies - bee keeping and target shooting. I’m hoping to buy a new car soon - once I’ve decided which one!

When the children were small and I was a stay at home mum for 9 years, treats were very few, but now it’s good to be able to treat ourselves and not feel guilty.
