My Beko washing machine has died. It was probably 8 years old so no point in trying to repair it. Apparently there's a problem with the circuit board.
I hope to be moving house within a year, so I need something I can take with me.
Can someone recommend a machine 8kg or under for about £300. Pref less?

Buy another Beko. They are cheap and cheerful and reliable and great value for money.

Look at Mark's Electricals.
They have a good selection and are reliable.
Deliver at weekends too.

My cooker and washing machine came from Mark's.

Our independant washing machine man told us that Beko are as good as any machine and the parts are cheaper to replace. We replaced our expensive diswasher for a BEko, on his recommendation.

I do have a Bosch, which I love.

He is correct. In many cases they are often better.

I’d go cheap and cheerful too. For some reason, I’m quite heavy on washing machines and have tried premium brands and found they last no longer than the Indesits, Candys, and Bekos.

I’d avoid AOL like the plague, following DD1’s saga with them earlier this year.

Glad you asked this, I'm in the same way with the machine
so happy for the replies on here.

I'm a Bosch devotee for various appliances I've always found them reliable.

A while back Beko had a bad reputation for some of their appliances catching fire, I wouldn't have one, ditto Indesit or Zanussi, years ago I had a dishwasher in the latter brand that caught fire.

I purchased my fridge freezer and dishwasher that recently needed replacing from Marks Electrical. Lots of bargain prices with a wide choice of makes, easy to order online or by phone if you prefer. Delivery and installation was excellent.the delivery guys were both friendly and professional.

Bosch machines have caught fire too.

Eeek, I was just about to recommend Zanussi. I've had three which lasted ages and no fires, but maybe I should think again next time!

I won't touch Beko either. Cheap and cheerful. Bits kept falling off my larder fridge Door handle, shelf trims etc. . Made in Turkey. Replaced with a brilliant Bosch. Now need to find a new tumble drier. My Creda one has lasted for 20 years. Brilliant. It still works but unfortunately not able to vent it outdoors in the new house. Grr......

I bought the cheapest Beko in John Lewis a few months ago, replacing my dear old Siemens. I hate the Beko and can’t wait to get rid of it. It’s incredibly noisy, the 1400 spin leaves everything much wetter than the 1200 on the Siemens ever did, the drawer feels flimsy and the filter is impossible to open. The user manual is ridiculously unhelpfulAfter buying it a friend told me they have “built-in obsolescence”, the days of washing machines lasting 10-15 years or more are gone.

An old Hotpoint needed a repair every 11 months for the five years I had it. An AEG only lasted two years and the engineer said they are hopeless in hard water areas.

I’d get Siemens or Bosch.

Interesting discussion, I've always gone for a Bosch washing machine due to their reliability but should I need to buy another I'll certainly consider a Candy or Beko one
Ps I had no idea that washing machines could catch fire!! But then again I'm a twit

Is there nobody who can replace your circuit board. They are cheap and easy to replace.
We have just bought an Ebac.
Not over happy as there isn’t very short wash.
I used the 14 min one on my old Hoover all the time.
I do like that there is a 20 degree setting.

my Miele had given up the ghost at 12years old. Independant repair man said that a spindle holding the drum had sheared. Later models are made in Asia and of plastic not metals.. this was confirmed by my sons German fil.
Repair man recommended an Ebac. Designed and made in the UK. l didn't realise but we had a humidifier made by this company and it about 18 years old and still working.
We bought one and its been great. Bought from an independent retailer ( Gilmans gloucester ) and it has 7 year guarantee.

Thankyou everyone who has replied.
It is interesting.
Having taken a load to the launderette (outdoor 24hr machines)
I tried again today and it worked!
I may leave it until the new year now if I can get by. I may be a bit smelly...🤣

We bought directly from Ebac. The delivery was a bit of a kerkufull but we finally got it.

The longest lasting washing machine is the one I have at the moment. Bosch and others lasted up to 8 years but the one I have is a Siemens’s, bought in a John Lewis sale and made in Poland.it must be 12 years old. Every time I put it on I expect a fault to occur.

Lovetopaint037 Mon 09-Dec-24 03:19:34

Sorry I have just read you want one under £300 as you are moving.

Nanato3 Mon 09-Dec-24 04:51:25

I've always stuck with Hotpoint , never had any problems until at least 10 years old .
You get what you pay for I've found.

tanith Mon 09-Dec-24 07:22:33

I have a hot point too, it’s 9+ yrs with no probs.

SparklyGrandma Mon 09-Dec-24 08:11:56

Beko - I bought one of their c140 cm fridges, it fell apart in 4 years. Bought another brand fridge, the door seal broke and the insurer’s replacement? A Beko. Falling apart. The case has shrunk so I only have 3 usuable shelves.

Never again.

MissAdventure Mon 09-Dec-24 08:13:05

My last machine was a hotpoint, and it was 30+ years old, and still working when it went.
It had been repaired a couple of times, but only costing about £50 a time.
