I don't like Baileys - what can I drink?

As we near Christmas lots of people seem to get really excited about drinking Baileys.

I can't stand the stuff.

My tastes are quite boring in that I really only like chilled white, rose or prosseco.

Is there anything a bit more exciting (but not too complicated) that I might like to drink - and to celebrate the season.

What is your favourite drink at this time of year?

I’ve just ordered a bottle of Raspberry Reserve Liqueur from Lyme Bay Winery. It’s basically raspberry in vodka at 22% proof costing £14.99. It sounded very nice so thought I’d give it a try. I also have my own home made sloe gin and a big bottle of Baileys for £11 in Sainsburys.

If you want something non alcohol and sparkling and like ginger I thoroughly recommend Zingy Bear.

Cointreau topped up with prosecco, add cranberry juice if you want to make it a long drink.

Allira Mon 24-Nov-25 14:54:45

Yes, sloe gin!
With bitter lemon.

I have a tiny bottle of raspberry liqueur which I bought years ago, time to drink it with prosecco (or soda water).

I like a glass of home made sloe vodka.

By ‘glass’, I mean a tiny old fashioned wine glass of my mum’s, more like a shot glass.

I like the JJ Whitely Raspberry Vodka and buy a bottle for Christmas from Tesco. 38.6 proof.
My long time favourite is Tia Maria, always happy to have a glass of that.

Drambuie is lovely, warms your heart!

Greyduster Mon 24-Nov-25 15:27:54

My sloe gin should be ready for bottling in a couple of weeks - it is a gorgeous colour - and I’m greatly looking forward to a drop or two of that, plus I shall treat myself to a bottle of Highland Park Viking Honour and some good port.

If you don't like Baileys then perhaps you find liquers too sweet .
I love them, but they can be too much .
I think that people tend to drink them before food and it's not the best way .

I like champagne, cava and prosecco or a rich shiraz . I enjoy rose with seafood .
Brandy is my favourite drink and I like it with soda .
My favourite cocktail is a Sidecar - brandy plus lemon juice and lots of crushed ice .
It isn't sweet ,but refreshing.
It's so rarely ordered these days .

You and me both! How about Amaretto? You would have to like Almonds. I also like Edinburgh Rhubarb and Ginger Liqueur, poured over ice cubes.

Cocktails are quite fun! Vodka martinis and Mojitos are two I like.

silverlining48 Mon 24-Nov-25 16:05:28

If you are at someone’s home it might be a bit awkward asking for fancy cocktails. I quite like Amaretto too, the Aldi equivalent is just as nice. Or gin and tonic or wine.
Or a nice cup of earl grey tea.

If you want something 'christmassy' and a change from your usual tipple Tawny Port has a definite christmassy taste.

For an aperitif, Ricard or Pernod. After the meal, Armagnac or an Islay malt.

NotSpaghetti Mon 24-Nov-25 16:34:52

I also like a decent port.
(not white)
Or King's Ginger is nice in the winter
And a cozy single malt (lots to choose from).

What type of things do you actually like that isn't what you have already mentioned kittyleicester?

Fruity, sweet, bitter, tart, creamy???

Grammaretto Mon 24-Nov-25 16:48:11

I agree with Esmay. All these liqueurs are too sweet for my palette nowadays..
I prefer something slightly bitter.
Gin and tonic with ice and fresh lemon. It must be proper tonic and not any of this low calorie saccharine stuff..

Brandy and ginger is excellent to stop sea sickness and whisky for a cold.

When I was first allowed to drink alcohol I loved a snowball or a Baileys. Harveys Bristol cream (sherry) seemed so sophisticated.

Yes, Lagavulin or Laphroaig malt for me but an Armagnac a very close second. None of the sweet stuff!

Cointreau over ice. Remember the sexy Christmas adverts?
' The ice melts...'

Or Glayva, again over ice, no mixers. Very warming.

Nice port with cheeseboard.

Brandy and Babycham?
Remember the Babycham Christmas ads?

I usually only drink white wine, or soda and lime if I'm driving.

Cheers, m'dears!

MollyNew Mon 24-Nov-25 17:28:49

Brandy and babycham! Or Cherry B. Happy memories.

I expect I'd like both those J52 grin

Thank you everyone for all the suggestions. I feel very unadventurous when I stick to my chilled, fairly sweet, rose.

Deedaa Mon 24-Nov-25 17:33:22

I like a glass of Marsala, or Vin Santo, if I'm feeling rich, in the morning. An Amarone or Barolo with lunch and Asti Spumante with the pudding. Amaretto afterwards. The Christmas cake has been thoroughly laced with Amaretto too. I loathe Baileys and all the other cream liquers.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Mon 24-Nov-25 17:36:25

My favourite malt is Cardhu.
I hope to have a wee dram over Christmas 🤞

David49 Mon 24-Nov-25 17:58:53

We make Sloe and Damson Gin, a lot gets given in Christmas Hampers to friends and relatives

Damson is quite sweet, Sloe medium, both very moreish.

Bukkie Mon 24-Nov-25 18:08:58

I can't stand Baileys and am baffled why people get excited about it. If we ever get a bottle in go straight to the next raffle as a prize. I only drink red wine, prosecco and the occasional rhubarb and ginger gin mixed with ginger ale. A snowball is lovely during the festive period. My Grandma always opened the Babycham served in Babycham glasses complete with glacé cherries at Christmas. She didn't drink the rest of the year.

madeleine45 Mon 24-Nov-25 18:59:57

Dry white port used to be good, and was used instead of sherry in portugal as sherry was an import and cost more. Chill the port and we found it very good

henetha Mon 24-Nov-25 19:15:48

I'm not much of a drinker, but I do think Tia Maria is lovely.
Is you like coffee that is.
