Tattoos on older women

The vast majority of tattoos look revolting on women.

I hate tattoos on both men and women,young or old.

I've never had a tattoo and never will. That's just my personal choice but others choose to have them so that's fine as well.

I hate tattoos too. DD2 has several, quite artistic ones, but I feel they ruin her perfect body. She knows I don’t like tattoos in general so I don’t comment.

Not for them myself but,,, my friends daughter has a beautiful black tree up the inside of her arn to the elbow. The reason was mum found out she was self harming through bullying, it was hidden under her school blouse, and as she got to her twenties and problems behind her she was left with with lines up her arms, she tried to get it sorted but the tattoo was the only option and thankfully it looks beautiful, the lady had a nasty red scar that regardless couldn't get it sorted either after going for help, it was on the top of her arm the size of an old penny so she had a tattoo of a flower round it, to disguise it.

I hate to see tattoos on anyone, especially when they're covering a full arm or leg.

I have a tattoo. It's small, on my back and means something to me. Does not look bad at all.
It boils down to personal likes.

There's an elderly lady I used to see when I was out and about more, with tattoos and piercings all over her face

I have two small tattoos, one on each shoulder. A small parrot and a TinTin style dragon. These were done in 1996 and signify events in my life. Sadly they have lost much of their vibrant colours now.
I neither love nor hate them. They are just part of me.
I’ve often thought about getting one more discreet tattoo done. Maybe on my ankle. It would be of a bare tree branch with an empty nest and an eagle perched on the branch. No egrets.

Why has there been lots of threads on the subject of tattoos?
I am just interested in others opinions of having, or getting a tattoo.

I don't have any myself - but everyone else in my family has at least one. I actually love looking at them on other people - some are genuinely works of art. And I'd hope that by the time people get to our age, they'd be comfortable enough in their own skin to not give a flying what anyone else thinks about them or their tattoos. After all, it's their body, their business - and they don't affect anyone else.

It's a bit of a pointless debate IMO.

If you don't like them, it implies a criticism of those that have them, and if you do - well, you do!

Clearly, people are divided - but is it really a contentious issue? Or are you asking if it's appropriate for older women (and men) to have them?

They are old hat now and lots of people are having tattoos lasered off. victoria Beckham has had several removed but she can easily afford to get them done at the best places. Others won’t be so well off and will look even more of a mess.

Two of my nieces (in their 40s) have their arms and legs covered in very bright tattoos that were popular when they were in their 20s but look very dated now. Cherries, cats, buxom maidens, anchors, doves etc.

I’m not that old, but when I was growing up the only people who had tattoos were working class men & butch lesbians.
I don’t know when they became fashionable for the masses. The early 90’s maybe?

I went to a very interesting exhibition on the history of tattoos some years ago. It ranged from the very earliest right up to date.

I'm not a fan of them and when I see whole limbs covered in them it looks more like self -harm. I don't like to see them on older women it just looks a bit yuk. But each to their own and I do understand it's a form of self -expression and can be meaningful to them.
