My DS2 would have been 30 tomorrow

Hello all, and sending good wishes.

Feeling a bit low, DS2 took his own life aged 19, in 2008.

As OP says, tomorrow would have been his 30th birthday. Remembering what I was doing 30 years ago today (jogging up and down the corridor in the maternity unit, trying to get things "going" so that I didn't have to go to be induced the next morning! grin)

But also wondering about what might have been. Would he be married, with children of his own? He and his dear friend Theresa used to joke that if neither of them were married or in a relationship by 30, then they may as well marry each other!I

I miss him, the person that he was, and the one he might have become.

Always loving you, my darling boy.

At 30, your lovely boy should've had the world at his feet Phoenix. How desperately sad. I really cannot begin to imagine how you must feel . sad

I hope tomorrow will be a little easier than today, often we tend to dread a day like your son's birthday in advance.

I think it is natural to say "What if" in your situation, Phoenix and others who have lost a child.

People say it doesn't do any good, but I don't think they are entirely right.

After all, surely forgetting our dear ones, just because they are dead would be an enormous betrayal.

I am not explaining this well: what I mean is, we cannot and should not forget anyone we have loved. Remembering them will always bring a certain sadness, but that is surely part of the human condition.

So sorry Phoenix, I hope you are feeling a bit better today, my son died 17 years ago & I often find the day before his birthday is harder than the day itself.

Dear Phoenix I wish I had words to comfort you as your words comforted me when my son died. All I can do is think of you both today and tomorrow. flowers

Sending you warm wishes. We had a suicide in our family on New Year’s Eve she was 20 years old and a troubled soul but such a lovely girl. It’s very raw and her parents and siblings are struggling but trying to work through it with the help of councillors.
There are no words just sending you hugs.

Phoenix thinking about you today. It’s awful losing any family member but losing a child must be unbearable. My son attempted suicide last year and a friend found him just in time. I know I’m lucky. Sending lots of hugs. flowers

How I understand Phoenix. My younger daughter took her own life 9 years ago,aged33. She would have been 43 on April 8th. That was still a difficult day and I heard from no-one -not even my elder daughter. She left two lovely girls ,now aged 14 next week and 11. I hardly ever see them as they live 300miles away. They do now have a lovely Stepmum ,which keeps me going, but I will never stop missing my daughter ,especially on her birthday.

There can be nothing worse than the loss of a beloved child. It’s beyond my comprehension
I’m thinking of you on this the most difficult of daysflowers

I can relate to this too Phoenix. My 25 year old son hanged himself last October. It would have been his 26th birthday in March. I too wonder what could have been. Him getting married and having children. He was my youngest of four sons. My thoughts are with you. x

Far too many of us have lost children, and especially to suicide. flowers to you all.

KatyK Mon 29-Apr-19 17:22:05

flowers How awful for you phoenix. We always wonder what they would be like now. Today is the anniversary of the day my brother took his own life over 40 years ago. Doesn't compare to losing a child of course, although we lost a much loved nephew aged 16 to leukaemia.
