My DS2 would have been 30 tomorrow

Hello all, and sending good wishes.

Feeling a bit low, DS2 took his own life aged 19, in 2008.

As OP says, tomorrow would have been his 30th birthday. Remembering what I was doing 30 years ago today (jogging up and down the corridor in the maternity unit, trying to get things "going" so that I didn't have to go to be induced the next morning! grin)

But also wondering about what might have been. Would he be married, with children of his own? He and his dear friend Theresa used to joke that if neither of them were married or in a relationship by 30, then they may as well marry each other!I

I miss him, the person that he was, and the one he might have become.

Always loving you, my darling boy.

I've only just seen this thread and can't imagine the lives of those who've lost a child.
How brave you've had to be over the years when anniversaries come around and with that overall feeling of loss and emptiness must be indescribable.
I feel for all of you.x

Oh Phoenix. So so sorry.

I empathise. My son died when he was seven and would now be 53. Not many people remember him now (apart from family obviously) but I value those who do and he is in my heart.

That's only natural - to miss him and think about what might have been. The death of one's children must be the worst pain and especially so this kind of death, which you must wonder if you could have done anything to prevent it - almost certainly not. Do treat yourself kindly today.

sorry for your loss.Ive known 6 people to take their lives, one was close, its the worst pain ever, I don't know how I would cope if it was close family. There are no words really, I find some comfort in the fact that all the people I knew had a mental illness and people take their lives when they are on their own.I wish you hope and peace

anitamp1 Mon 29-Apr-19 12:06:31

I can't imagine your heartbreak. So very very sorry for your loss.

nannypiano Mon 29-Apr-19 12:08:56

Must be one of the worst things that can happen to you and I am deeply sorry for your loss. My younger son's best friend did the same at 21 and my son was the one to find him. He was an only child and a lovely guy. We all feel the loss as though it was yesterday. My son spends a lot of time with his parents who are quite old now. He does things for them, like their boy would have done. It was at least 35 years ago, but the feelings are still just under the surface all the time. They never leave you.

Nonnie Mon 29-Apr-19 12:25:24

Oh Phoenix you know I understand what it is to suddenly lose a son. I wish there were words of comfort but there are not. I doubt it would be any better knowing that a child had a terminal illness and trying to prepare for it though. The sudden shock seems to make it hard to really believe, I still wake up thinking it must be a dream. Crying with you and the others who know what its like.

Oldcroc17 Mon 29-Apr-19 12:52:59

I am so sorry for you. Sending you lots of love and will be thinking about you tomorrow. xx
