This is one of mine. www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Q8ESzK5pCw

Fantastic visuals on this video too!

Yes, you got the right one, duppy. It is BWV 78. Now all we need for the proper sound is a boys' choir and the accompaniment on a harpsichord. ;-)

Baggy oh yes! God save the king! And green, yes we used to sing that on remembrance Sunday . I always had difficulty with the last line
And we shall meet again!

Glad to see you back. Hope you pick up soon. smile

There are some beautiful pictures on this video of the Handel coronation one.

Kings really looked liked kings back in history, didn't they?

Samuel Barber - Adagio for Strings. Choral.

I find this the most stunning piece of music.

Butternut Tue 07-Feb-12 17:54:01

It's not a hymn though - hope you don't mind whatsup

whatisamashedupphrase Tue 07-Feb-12 17:54:02

She will now.
Thank you Glass. smile

whatisamashedupphrase Tue 07-Feb-12 18:00:58

I gotta knock off here now. My head is going a bit funny. confused

glassortwo Tue 07-Feb-12 18:01:48

My head went funny years ago grin

Butternut Tue 07-Feb-12 18:05:54

Thanks for that link, whatsup. Lovely.

What a pity the other one didn't work - it is the Coral which I most adore. smile

whatisamashedupphrase Tue 07-Feb-12 19:03:15

Oh, I didn't mean to put a really sad one like that.

I only looked at the David Beckham bit. blush

Sorry for the downer.

whatisamashedupphrase Tue 07-Feb-12 19:05:34

Jing. I think that's wrong!

artygran Tue 07-Feb-12 20:28:24

Effblinder that is one of my favourites too! For hymns I like 'God Be in My Head' (very short but beautiful - we used to sing it at the end of the school day) and 'All People that on Earth do Dwell'. I do love a good hymn but don't like modern church music, I'm afraid. Bit set in my ways.

Butternut Tue 07-Feb-12 21:15:23

Found it and just downloaded it, whatsup.

Nice thread.

whatisamashedupphrase Tue 07-Feb-12 21:27:28

For Artygran. Sung by the best. smile

Drawing back the curtains I think of ,"Lo, already on the hills,
The flags of dawn appear"
Why are modern hymns so banal and the words don't fit the tune?
Give me Hymns A & M every time.

whatisamashedupphrase Tue 07-Feb-12 22:00:37

Can't find one with voices singing, but this is a music only version apricot

remember school assembly, singing 'Eternal father, strong to save ----for those in peril on the sea'.Always a few tears because in wartime some girls had fathers at sea.
Also 'I vow to thee my country'
Was in a church choir in my teens.
I like 'Be still my soul' Is that Finlandia (Sibelius)?
and the easter hymns with lots of Allelulias.
