who might be thinking of joining.

You will only be allowed to stay if: you can spell, can type, have a good grasp of English grammar, and preferably have a degree (OU is allowed).

And whatever you do don't show any sign of a slightly smutty sense of humour. That will make the poor gentle-women on here tear their hair, and Gransnet will delete you in case you scare off any potential advertisers. (not there seems to be many at the moment)

Just to help your memory,jO5 ,you copied and pasted 2 posts of mine from another thread, you omitted to include the post from another member in between them. My first comment consisted of 3 words, namely "Is it me?" Another poster replied "No it's not, but probably best not to respond" to which I replied "Roger, willco" . I don't see any "trip trap" or "troll" comments there.

You then began a thread into which you put my 2 posts (with some sarcastic seeming punctuation of your own), and followed it with an insult.

It would seem that your thread was deleted overnight, as I made 1 reply to you and went to bed myself about 30 minutes later. The thread that you c & p'd from was still active this morning, but has since been deleted. I have made no complaint to HQ about either your thread or the one that you took my comments from, so it would seem that either someone else did complain, or that GNHQ had reasons of their own to take the step of deleting them.

There you go then JO5 was out Christmas shopping not reading and not posting. Why do people have to assume?

I agree that it is not pleasant to talk about someone behind their backs even if you know they will be able to read it. As for correcting people, it has happened to me twice in the last week but not for spelling or grammar so that is probably allowed. I am probably guilty of those too as I am usually posting ina rush.

I don't thin GNHQ has superpowers, but they do have every member's e-mail address and, I think, some other information. I can't now remember what information I was asked for when I joined.

Moved, I don't mean today, this was late last night.

absent there are ways that the ISP numbers can be traced even if people open a new email account.

jO5 Wed 28-Nov-12 16:38:44

First of all I didn't copy and paste anything. I typed it from memory.

Be back in a minute. Will just read next bit.

soop Wed 28-Nov-12 16:38:54

Having just been told that a very good friend of ours [from the village] has had a heart attack and is in hospital, I shall wish you all goodnight for now. moon

absentgrana Wed 28-Nov-12 16:40:08

Movedalot "There you go" – where do we go? What have "people" assumed? I'm sorry I don't follow what you're saying. I would guess that several other members have posted between the comment to which you are responding and your response.

I don't think people in general resent corrections to fact or inaccuracies and you were extraordinarily fulsome in your expressions of gratitude for a minor error that I pointed out to you in passing, so I would guess you're quite happy about that sort of thing.

jO5 Wed 28-Nov-12 16:41:29

Yes. I remember the Willco (or something) now. Couldn't remember the exact phrase last night. I knew they were troll-suggesting comments.

I don't think I posted another thread after that one. I went to bed. confused

Butty Wed 28-Nov-12 16:41:41

Sorry to hear that, soop. Nite-nite-for-now moon

jO5 Wed 28-Nov-12 16:43:43

Racking my brains................

You couldn't just give me a clue what the insult was?

Bags Wed 28-Nov-12 16:44:48

phoenix, just for the record, I did see the expression "trip trap". I can't remember which thread it was on or what the thread was about (if anything), nor who posted "trip trap". There were some responses to that, similar to the ones you've mentioned, but which I've also forgotten.

jO5 Wed 28-Nov-12 16:45:04

night night soop. Sorry about your friend. moon

Greatnan Wed 28-Nov-12 16:51:45

Commiserations, soop, how sad.

Could you all PLEASE now do something really serious and look at the petition I have posted.

Movedalot Wed 28-Nov-12 16:59:01

Phoenix I was not talking about anything in the last 24 hours.

Absent no time to go back and look but you can if you like. Someone said something like Jingle was probably reading this but not posting. That is the assumption to which I referred.

kittylester Wed 28-Nov-12 17:13:07

I said trip trap on some thread or another about mattresses. confused

absentgrana Wed 28-Nov-12 17:18:18

Oh that would make sense Movedalot. Thank you.

Sel Wed 28-Nov-12 17:20:54

kittylester grin stop it!

absentgrana Wed 28-Nov-12 17:26:12

Was that mattresses like The Godfather *kittylester? (Go to the mattresses.) Is there a Mafia family called Goat? Who is the Capo di Capra?

Elegran Wed 28-Nov-12 17:31:09

The definition of a mistress is that she is someone who comes between a master and a mattress. Just changing the course of this thread, by pivoting in on the word mattress.

Ana Wed 28-Nov-12 17:32:39

But some mistresses might just be faking it...hmm

Elegran Wed 28-Nov-12 17:32:54

Sorry, should have previewed, that should have said "a mister and a mattress" but it still made sense, so I don't know why I am correcting it.

numberplease Wed 28-Nov-12 17:33:10

Best wishes to your friend Soop.

Elegran Wed 28-Nov-12 17:35:36

If she is promoted to a missus, she can stop faking it (but she should then remember that, as ?Oscar Wilde? said "A man who marries his mistress creates a vacancy"

Greatnan Wed 28-Nov-12 18:10:22

I think it was Goldsmith who said that.

Grannylin Wed 28-Nov-12 18:19:22

Sorry to correct, (GN etiquette and all that) but isn't it Capo di capi, boss of bosses not boss of the goats?
