who might be thinking of joining.

You will only be allowed to stay if: you can spell, can type, have a good grasp of English grammar, and preferably have a degree (OU is allowed).

And whatever you do don't show any sign of a slightly smutty sense of humour. That will make the poor gentle-women on here tear their hair, and Gransnet will delete you in case you scare off any potential advertisers. (not there seems to be many at the moment)

I love the way things develop on here! On another thread (No ensuite?) we went from lavatories to lentils!

At this rate Leonardo Di Caprio will soon head a Mafia empire that launders their drug money by stuffing mattresses with it!

Elegran Wed 28-Nov-12 18:37:36

Where is the joke thread? I've just received one by email but can't find where to post it.

Nanadog Wed 28-Nov-12 18:38:30

I think both Goldsmith and Wilde said something similarl but with a slight variation in the wording???

Ana Wed 28-Nov-12 18:41:05

It's called Just Jokes, Elegran - it won't be far down the list.

Elegran Wed 28-Nov-12 18:43:38

Yes I know that but which list ? It is not on the "last hour " or the "I'm on" or the "active" so far as I can see. Which topic is it in? and why don't we have a wholetopic called "jokes"?

jO5 Wed 28-Nov-12 18:47:59

it's 'ere hmm

Ana Wed 28-Nov-12 18:48:31

At the moment, it's ninth from the bottom on the Active page.

Elegran Wed 28-Nov-12 19:00:56

Found it and posted. Thanks.

absentgrana Wed 28-Nov-12 19:19:50

Grannylin Yes, youbare quite right, but I was talking about Boss of the Goats, re- trolls and trip, trap, trip trap over the rackety bridge. I was being very silly.

absentgrana Wed 28-Nov-12 19:21:31

You bare – whoops – that's a bit presumptive. Sorry – you are. smile [Damn acrylic fingernails emoticon]

absentgrana Wed 28-Nov-12 19:23:32

Presumptuous, not presumptive. Sorry, sorry twice and thrice. absentgrana – enough wine. Cup of coffee and then bedtime with a nice story book.

Sel Wed 28-Nov-12 19:30:40

absentgrana it's becoming surreal smile

Ana Wed 28-Nov-12 19:32:39

...' becoming '? grin

Anne58 Wed 28-Nov-12 19:32:49

It often does.

absentgrana Wed 28-Nov-12 19:34:01

Bad absent. Cup of coffee. Bedtime and a serious book. It was the goats that did it – you really cannot trust goats these days . Goodnight and soon moon.

jO5 Wed 28-Nov-12 19:37:47

I've remembered!

It was because they don't allow threads about another thread. I had an email telling me why they'd deleted it.

Nelliemoser Wed 28-Nov-12 20:12:59

Phoenix Lavatories to Lentils is not all strange. In fact it is usually a very quick run and an essential reason for an ensuite! grin

Petallus if you are reading this, forgive me yet again for getting the double consonants in you name mixed up. blush

I must spell Petallus's name correctly!
I must spell Petallus's name correctly!
I must spell Petallus's name correctly!
I must spell Petallus's name correctly!
I must spell Petallus's name correctly!
I must spell Petallus's name correctly!
I must spell Petallus's name correctly!
I must spell Petallus's name correctly!
I must spell Petallus's name correctly!
I must spell Petallus's name correctly!

It's really easy to write the correct spelling out 10 times with a word processor. [

I think every computer has its own IP address, so you could use two different emails to have two different profile names but GN should be able to see if it came from the same computer. I am not 100% sure on this.

Ana Wed 28-Nov-12 20:33:02

You could use someone else's computer, or have several computers yourself, if you were determined to be a troll, or to have multiple user names. I really don't see how any Forum administrator can always know who's dodgy.

Sel Wed 28-Nov-12 20:34:39

Nellimoser that would have been so handy for lines. Does anyone do 'lines' anymore? A somewhat pointless exercise but one I suffered from smile

Faye Wed 28-Nov-12 20:46:48

Yes Ana but people get tripped up. I have seen it happen on Gransnet, a poster had two profiles and mentioned the husband of the other poster as though he was her own. I could just about see the oh ooh when she realised what she had done. After that one of the profiles was never used again. smile

Ana Wed 28-Nov-12 20:53:24

Yes, you'd have to be very careful to keep the two (or multiple!) personalities separate. I suppose it wouldn't matter if you were a troll who just posted the odd inflamatory comment every now and again...hmm

Sel Wed 28-Nov-12 21:09:41

Ana and it does beg the question: why would you? And then again whatever the answer, does it really matter? We are not going to be infected! Whatever public forum there is, there will be multiple posters, some who actually 'sign up' to the ethos of the forum, some who just post. Hard to control and it's all about gathering email addresses.

Ana Wed 28-Nov-12 21:18:19

Yes, just speculating, Sel! grin

jeni Wed 28-Nov-12 21:22:08
