There is nothing innocuous in a remark – a joke apparently – about someone being blown up, particularly so when people have just been blown up. The so-called joke is tasteless and contemptible, not my comment.

C'mon; the remark was in extremely bad taste at this moment in time. And the poster was aware of that even when posting.

If we never smiled again each time someone in this world dies through man's cruelty or neglect, we would never smile again. Do you really think that no one has died in Africa, Syria, and the like, in the last twentyfour hours. I'm not seeking to diminish the tragedy of what has happened in Boston. I feel it deeply. But we have to survive.

I don't want to have an argument with anyone over this, but I have to defend myself when it comes to my morals being called into question.

I'm about to start reading the book of the month. I really hope it is as absorbing as others have said it is. I so need to get away from the nastiness that is Gransnet.

Granted, you weren't thinking - that is obvious, nobody would be so crass as to say it deliberately, but it doesn't preclude the inappropriateness of the "joke" - these things happen. Say sorry for the bad timing and move on. Your defensive aggressive reaction says to me you definitely were in a hole.
