Hi all

The original thread has become too long and unwieldy so we're trying to streamline all the information to make it easier for everyone to keep up with what's going on.

There are two other threads for support and suggestions.

Please can you leave this thread free for those who have firm updates and links? Thanks so much. flowers

Each candle for Carol burns for 48 hours, so if people lit a candle when the group opened on Sunday then they may want to consider lighting again today.
( thought this classed as an 'advisory' so hope no-one minds the inclusion here )

603 candles, from 22 countries, are now shining out as a beacon

It does not belong on the up date page. We who click on it want an update

Candles (virtual or real) have no power to influence events.

This is a kind update about the progress with candles, and it's having an effect because the word has spread to 22 countries. Those people are helping to keep up the momentum in getting the authorities to continue and intensify the search, which we know is happening. Please do keep up the call for the search to keep going.

Those of us unable to give any practical help can feel connected by lighting a candle

On the FB page, Simon asks that messages of support and condolence be restricted to the FB page. We should keep our messages for there as well. He will have a good reason for asking.

Grannyknot Wed 06-Nov-13 11:56:59

Granjura has asked me to post a copy of the message from Facebook.
She is currently in the Haute Savoie helping the family.

· Friends of Carol and her family,

I am very sad to announce that French authorities recovered Carol’s body this morning, near to where her car was found a few days ago. There are no further details from the police at the moment.

We would like to thank everyone who helped in the search, whether by sharing through social media, contacting the press or actually going out and looking. Your efforts meant the world to us; they made us feel supported and they showed us how loved she was - that so many people were so desperate to find her. ...

Thank you also for the messages of support and sympathy over the last week. They have helped our family through a very difficult time.

I understand now that people will want to show further support and it is natural that many friends and friends of the family will want to be in touch and talk about what has happened. However, I would ask you all to respect that this is a very, very difficult time for us, and as a family right now we would like the privacy to come to terms with what has happened.

We still welcome your messages of support and condolence, but ask that, for now, you restrict them to posting on the wall in this group.

Carol was an amazing woman who lived an amazing life. She was dearly loved by many and will be hugely missed by all of us. Personally, I am taking some comfort in that her last moments were spent doing something she loved.

Simon (Grandson)

I would like to take this opportunity to extend my condolences to Carol's family. She was a remarkable woman and I feel privileged to have known her.

Icyalittle Wed 06-Nov-13 12:39:11

I'm really so sorry - I hope the outpouring of active support received here and from Mumsnet will eventually be some kind of comfort for Carol's family and many friends.

Psammy Wed 06-Nov-13 12:39:52

I've passed my condolences on via facebook, I just wanted to do the same here to all of Carol's friends here on Gransnet.

You've done her proud. What a testament to Carol you all are. I am so sorry for the loss of your friend.
