With regard to the dreadful situation of the Panaches I really cannot believe that this seriously ill couple were sent home over the Christmas period without any form of care and support being offered/put in place, unless it was deliberately refused, which is what my father attempted to do.
Fortunately the authorities were able to contact me, 180 miles away, and I was able to intervene, as were helpful neighbours and good friends.
Panache talked airily of making a strong phone call in the New Year but that is four days away and they are not able to produce proper food. Where are Meals on Wheels, unless they too have been refused, which again is what my father did?
I agree that this is a safeguarding issue, as there have been so many helpful, practical suggestions and offers of help which seem to be resolutely ignored. Lack of proper nutrition is one of the first things which will accelerate their deterioration and ability to make decisions, (again, my father).
Sorry if this post appears harsh, but it springs from genuine concern.

Never you mind the one nasty poster who got so stroppy with you, N&G. She didn't get much sympathy anyway. You are safe here, as are we all. In the early days, I was once accused of bullying, by a member long gone - banned, I think, I'm still here and she isn't! A guid New Year to you in advance and I hope you survive the hordes.

At least one of GNHQ are journalists so please can we have this VERY serious issue brought to the attention of the authorities. Noone but noone that ill should be at home unsupported over a long holiday period and why was a home assessment not carried out for a stroke patient before discharge.

Hello the kitchen. Yours truly is upright today and walking, but slowly! I had a very strange dream last night and it is very vivid I can remember every detail. Are you sitting comfortably? Then I will begin! I had been shooting reindeer, and was buying flowers in our railway station, after seeing GS off to somewhere on a midnight train, but he left his hat in my hand. I got on a bus that was not going where I wanted it to go but every time I rang the bell and tried to get off, the doors closed on me. A dog brought a sausage, deposited it on my knee and proceeded to eat it, putting saliva all over my phone. I burst into tears. And then I woke up. Any interpreters of dreams out there willing to give that one a go? No? Thought not!

N&G I wouldn’t give that encounter a thought. I fancy it was one of those! Sounds as if you are rather dragged down by your seasonal ailments. Stay here. We’ll give your shoulders a rub and pour warm melted chocolate down your throat. And get someone to sing to you! It might be me! Perhaps not.....

I have the impression that the P’s live somewhere on the coast, possibly near Haverfordwest but I could be totally wrong. Wherever they live, they need immediate help. I was going to say I can’t imagine they would let Mr P out of hospital with no support after having a stroke, but I’m afraid they did it with DH’s brother, having misdiagnosed his to start with, so I don’t have a lot of faith in the Welsh health services.

GS is coming over at some stage today for an overnight. His dad is signed up for some big New Year race tomorrow and DD is working, so GS has drawn the short straw and is landed with us ?. We may do some cooking, and Grandad had a new jigsaw for Christmas!

What has happened to hospital SW's? It was one from the LA to meet with me in hospital when my H had a stroke.

I am not long up, the CH woke me up at 11.15pm to say my H had blood in his urine and they had called the out of hours Dr, they were waiting foracall back, I pointed out this is being investigated , the night senior didn't know.
I couldn't get back to sleep for ages and then she woke me again at 7am to say H is being treated with ab's for a urine infection.
I feel like a limp rag now, something from the feezer for dinner tonight thank goodness.
I think with the Panaches agreement, the suggestion of press coverage is a positive thing.

Oh this is heartbreaking news re Panache &Mr P..I agree with kittylester..111 if no joy then 999.. something has to be done and NOW!! Panache is an awesome lady who would never exaggerate a situation..I feel sick with worry..am a long way from where she lives ...or would be on to the local authorities..not that I know exactly where she is

I would so miss you lot but honestly so much of GN is a minefield, angels fearing to tread etc.
Now, seriously Panache while I/we want to respect your privacy and independence is there any way at all you would countenance pressure being put on the agencies in your area? Nobody likes an interfering busybody, it it is equally hard to see someone who needs a bit of help but is unable to access it (or, dare I suggest, trying too hard to stay independent?)
Please consider.
Now, it is a lovely day which lifts my spirits and a 12 hour Voltarol diclofenac patch on my shoulder (osteoarthritis, not frozen) has allowed me a good night’s sleep.

I have been in conversation with Panache in pms and am so concerned that I’ve offered to drive down with my husband to try to help to get some care support in place. She has my phone number but hasn’t used it ?

I’m wondering whether to alert GNHQ that we seem to have a safeguarding concern and see if they can alert social services as they will have the real name and geographical location? I can advise them if need be as I was, until recently, a safeguarding lead.

Not virtue signalling at all....just think it’s time for campaign action!

This is elderly abuse by the very authorities that should be safe guarding them.

DH seems to be getting worse so will try for a doctor's appointment tomorrow. Not sure how I am going to get him there though.

I woke up with a severe pain down the left side of my head. I have contracted a cold from my DGC and put it down to that although in the night was convinced I was having a stroke! A couple of paracetamol sorted it out though.

Fortunately having a quiet day and decided to stay in the kitchen as it is much calmer than out there in the main GN world where everyone seems at odds.

I am off to contact GNHQ.....I am going to point out that the Panaches seem to have slipped through the net and are in danger. I don’t think they will want to stand up in an enquiry and say that they did nothing because it wasn’t in their guidelines.....

In this case it seems better to me to potentially overstep the mark rather than sit and twiddle!

If I don’t come back you’ll know they’ve kneecapped me ?

Mamissimo that is good to hear. I expect you will know the Panaches’ name but if not I can let you have it. Thank you so much, from all of us I’m sure, for offering to take the step you are proposing. Our Panache is a strong and resolute lady but fiercely independent and proud. Also very, very frail and unwell with a very frail and unwell husband, both in their 80s. No harm in warning GNHQ. I’m not sure how Panache would feel, but if you believe this is a safeguarding issue then I am right behind you. Thank you for what you are doing.

Relief to see you mamissimo, I was wondering what would be possible without the clear agreement of Mr and Mrs Pamache, you will know. Thank you for offering to go yourself. I know panache wouldn’t want us to worry but it is very hard to hear her description of their situation and not. It’s also very hard not to be able to provide practical help.

That doesn’t sound good for either of you dragonfly, certainly not needed. Would a call to 111 be appropriate for your husband? It would certainly seem reasonable to ask for a home visit tomorrow if he isn’t able to get to the surgery. This is a difficult time of year for medical stuff that’s for sure.

Goodness ann, you will of course want to know about your husband’s condition but couldn’t there be some common sense attached to the timing?

Just popping back to say I’ve asked GNHQ to make a safeguarding referral and have offered to do it myself if they can give me the information.

It gives me no joy at all to do this because the help that comes may not be what they wished for but on the flip side I couldn’t stand by any longer and I don’t think in a civilised society I should. Hope I don’t regret it.

On a brighter note I am off to do some filing...if you want anything lost for ever send it my way!
