I've discovered my "default" setting.......

And I'm ashamed to say it's "bone idle" combined with more than a touch of CBA blush

Yes, I clean the kitchen, bathroom, Hoover etc, but have I sorted out the spare room? Have I buffalo!

Have I used this extra time to up my non existent "beauty" regime, by applying moisturiser after my shower? Erm, judging by the dinosaur skin on my arms and legs, it would appear not.

Have I sorted through that drawer full of photos, or the one with various odds and ends of make up, or that glass pot on the dressing table full of earrings?

No, no and no again!

I am hopeless!

DH asked me today if he could please have a tin of pineapple which he wanted for his breakfast. It’s been sitting on the hall carpet for 4 days waiting for me to wash it after I brought it in (unwashed) from our outdoor store cupboard. DH is on the shielded list and I won’t allow him to touch anything until I’ve washed it first. He did say that as it had already been sitting there for 4 days it was probably ok. He has put in a request for the toothpaste to be washed by tomorrow. I got that out of the cupboard at the same time as the pineapple blush

Oh what a relief this thread is, I thought it was just me.

Marmight Mon 20-Apr-20 21:16:10

Such a relief to know Im not alone. I woke up today at 5.45. I finally got going at 9.30 i.e. had breakfast. Since then I hard boiled 3 eggs, painted a blue tit (on paper, not a real one) tottered round the village for 10 minutes, ate yesterday’s left over lasagne and sat down in between in the sun. Now gawping at inane tv. It’s been quite a productive day really ?

Isn't it good to know you're not alonesmilelounge

GrannyLaine I've been doing that "add something to the list that you've already done just so you can cross it off" thing for years!

It really helps, makes you feel you've accomplished something, boosts your self esteem and all that, and after all we are all being told to look after our mental health at the moment, so a little cheating careful maintaining of household management techniques is no bad thing.

phoenix Mon 20-Apr-20 21:26:30

"Lounge" where the he'll did that come from? confused

phoenix Mon 20-Apr-20 21:28:22

I would never use that word, unless it meant to rest in a relaxed manner, definitely not in relation to a room in the house!

SueDonim Mon 20-Apr-20 21:30:10

Urmstongran, the cat is still on the sofa and so am I. grin. Maybe Phoenix is right and my inner cat has outed itself.

I prefer not to think of my indolence as such, I think it’s more that I’m pacing myself for the long haul.

Grandmafrench Mon 20-Apr-20 21:32:00

I'm struggling to find a tissue here - can't see what I'm typing. You are all so funny.
GrannyLane please don't try, it's nothing to brag about!
Doodle that poor man!!!!! I should imagine it's very hard for him to stocktake with your groceries appearing all over the house, and also to remember to fill in the appropriate forms for access to items like toothpaste. You'll keep him very safe, but will he be able to keep up with all the paperwork, do you think? grin
Marmight - let it never be said that you don't get your day organised in plenty of time. For me, you definitely win the prize for the most interesting to-do list! I suppose it's that random list which takes the three and three quarter hours to compose first thing! It's probably all downhill from there - a doddle (although how you would get a blue tit to sit for a portrait is anybody's guess.

Grandmafrench Mon 20-Apr-20 21:33:53

It's that blasted autocorrect, Phoenix or you've finally admitted to living in a hotel ?

NanKate Mon 20-Apr-20 21:45:55

Message withdrawn at poster's request.

phoenix Mon 20-Apr-20 21:46:53

Grandmafrench, sadly not, chez phoenix is a very ordinary (if tastefully decorated and furnished) 3 bedroomed semi.

Barmeyoldbat Mon 20-Apr-20 21:47:02

I did nothing today because I was doing nothing yesterday and I hadn't. finished.

GrannyLaine Mon 20-Apr-20 22:02:38

Grandmafrench believe me if I could get my leg into that position, I would brag from the rooftops! I have a very tricky hip and struggle to put my socks on. Thank heavens we're almost into sandals time. But I do rather admire that in a cat....

phoenix Mon 20-Apr-20 22:02:39

Barmeyoldbat classic! grin

GrannyLaine Mon 20-Apr-20 22:03:59

Barmeyoldbat I think that will be my mantra for tomorrow...

farview Mon 20-Apr-20 22:04:10

This has cheered me so much. It's going to be my "go to" when I'm feeling fed up..thanks Phoenix??

farview Mon 20-Apr-20 22:05:30

Barmeyoldbat..just choked on my wine ??

gulligranny Mon 20-Apr-20 22:22:04

DH and I took stock of all the jobs that needed to be done when lockdown started. Cleaning windows, sorting out the tip that is our smallest bedroom (where our computers are), sorting out the shed, sorting out the garage, sorting out all the paperwork cluttering up everywhere, blah blah blah.

We took stock again today, and were forced to admit that in fact we hadn't done any of them but we had done a fair bit of sitting in the garden, drinking coffee, drinking tea, eating cake, reading books and - most useful, we think - becoming addicted to Richard Osman's House of Games. Because you must keep your brain active, mustn't you?

Oh, I've done a bit of repotting of houseplants.

Do I feel in the slightest bit guilty? Nope.

phoenix Mon 20-Apr-20 22:48:09

Have you noticed how sometimes cats stop half way through doing that, hold the position and sort of look at you as if to say "and?"

nothing else, just "and?"

Let's face it, nothing else can do that look like a cat!I

One the other hand, there is the look on the face of a dog that has just farted and either startled itself or woken itself up.

phoenix Mon 20-Apr-20 22:50:37

farview glad you're enjoying it!

(Phoenix toddles off humming "Spread a little happiness as you go by" mainly because she can't whistle)

annodomini Mon 20-Apr-20 23:03:36

I'm very good at doing nothing and very good at putting that off till tomorrow. However, when I opened my bureau today, an avalanche of bits of paper, card, postit notes, landed on the floor and I had to mobilise the shredder. There are also several drawers stuffed with old bank statements and other documents - some for filing, most for shredding. I put that off till tomorrow. blush

Callistemon Mon 20-Apr-20 23:08:39

I have given up on the weeding.
It makes your wrists hurt.

"Procrastination is the thief of time."

I never really understood what that meant but it sounds virtuous.

Doodle Mon 20-Apr-20 23:27:21

grin wonderful. Another lovely phoenix thread. Spilt my wine now ?

Gransooz Mon 20-Apr-20 23:44:11

Oh I’ve loved reading all these - make me feel almost normal! I’ll go to bed and sleep well now. I live in a home, not a showhouse. ?

Callistemon Mon 20-Apr-20 23:46:49

I'm busy doing nothing
Working the whole day through
Trying to find
Lots of things not to do
