Boris calls his baby wilfred

A lot of babies are now given old fashioned names that used to belong to our parents and grandparents. I'm sure there will be quite a lot of them!

Least he can be a Will or a Fred

TBH I don’t think it’s any worse than many of the other ‘old men’s’ names that have become popular lately. To me so many of them conjure up bristly old great-uncles in tweedy jackets smelling of pipe tobacco. Of course younger parents won’t have those connotations.

I dare say he’ll be Freddie for short.

There are a lot of Wilfs about at the moment.It was on my daughters list of possible names too.I really like it.

Quite a common name for little boys these days. Reception class registers make unusual reading, Gloria, Stanley, Mabel, lots of Elsies too. Wonder when all those late forties and fifties names will make a come back? Lots of Peters and Margarets and Patricias? ?

The baby looks like an 8yr old lad. It must be the hair which makes him look much much older.

My brother had a friend called Wilfred - always referred to as 'Filfy Wilfy'.

He will be called Will i`m sure,and remember Boris uses his middle name as his first name is Alexander.
Don`t understand that tbh.
Although looking at his mop of hair he could be called mini BJ.

I know a child called Wulfric. I think it was last popular in the year 834AD! . I don’t like many of these revived names like Stanley, Reginald, Mabel, Pearl etc as they seem ugly, to me.

I don’t much like it, but I’m not at all surprised by it.. Yes, an old man’s name to my generation, but that’s fashionable.

I suppose it’ll take another generation to bring back the names of my contemporaries, the Jeans and Joans and Patricias. My granddaughter (7) has a school friend called Margaret, and I have great-niece called Elsie.

My mil used to say that some babies are born with old eyes, old souls full of knowledge and wisdom. I would love to see a full face, I am sure we will soon enough

find the title of this thread curious, as if he managed to get a baby all by himself and then had the naming of it.

i cannot see any problem with the name wilfred.
i much prefer it to many of the proposed names one sees on MN, many of which sound like brand names to me, quite impersonal, things like trey, or surnames.
wilfred is a good solid name.

Wilfred and Lawrie are after grandfathers of B and C respectively. Nicholas is for the doctors, both called Nick, who looked after B in hosp recently.
