Boris calls his baby wilfred

There is a Wilf in my DGD's class at school and it always makes me smile as my Father had a good friend of that name - I can't quite see a 9 year old and a an 80+ year old in the same context. I wonder if perhaps he will be known by his second name, as Boris is?

A lovely name for a lovely baby and I'm sure it will be Will when he's older. I also love the name Laurie.

He may decide he’d prefer one of his middle names.

He would blend in well with Nicholas. Lawrie I think is one of those unisex names like Lesley/Leslie and a name we never hear now, Beverley.

That's a good sounding name. I was trying to think where I had heard it before, and then it came to me. Wilfred Brambell
the actor that played Albert Steptoe in the very funny Steptoe and Son. Many posters have said it is an old fashioned English name but Wilfred Brambell was born in Dublin. Whenever I think of the new baby that Boris has had I will think of Wilfred Brambell.

According to Sky News last night the name Wilfred is after Boris'grandfather and the name Lawrie is after Carrie's grandfather. I quite like the name Lawrie, is it of Scottish origin ?

One of my grandfathers was called Laurence. It was never shortened. I dislike the use of diminutives as formal given names, which is very fashionable now - Charlie, Freddie, Alfie, Ben and so on. I suppose Laurie, Lawrie could be a surname, though.

It’s a Scot’s surname as in ‘Bonnie Annie Laurie’ or Paul Laurie the golfer ^Grandma70s*. My two youngest Dgs have friends called Arthur, Cecily, Florence, Jess, Matilda and Henry. The very old names are definitely coming back into favour.

Hello Gummie - ‘spiteful troll’ is back - So sorry Callistemon looks like I am becoming a ‘regular’ - although not part of the ‘claque’ - There is more news re Boris and his alleged brush with death. The mendacious egomaniac is now claiming he needed ‘litres & litres’ of oxygen - he originally informed the sheeple it was 4 litres. He was at no time mechanically ventilated - his oxygen administered by a face mask. I will stand corrected JenniferEccles if you have ‘irrefutable’ evidence to the contrary. I find it outrageous that Callistemon uses the word ‘shameful’ with reference to me - if that is an appropriate word to use can I ask what adjective you would use to describe Boris Johnson’s personal and political behaviour - dig out a thesaurus - Sparkling I like everyone here use a username - don’t hesitate to ask me to reveal myself from behind what you refer to as a cloak of ‘annonominity’ - I am apolitical especially at such times as this crisis but will not ignore Boris’ lies and manipulation of the populace. CPAP and BIPAP are delivered by a type of mask not a tube. Youre still very ctitically ill if you need acute CPAP.

It delivers PRESSURE not necessarily more oxygen than a standard facemaks.

If you need a machine to add PRESSURE to keep your lungs open and working. You are SICK! very sick.

Its not less serious just because its a type of mask.

What a weird post! Whoever you are I for one do not need or want your prayers!!! I don't think that Boris's private life is anything to do with anyone else apart from his family! Other than that, I can't make much sense of your ramblings so probably best ignored!!

Well it is only my personal opinion, but I don’t know how anyone can look at the miracle of a new baby and , out of all the names there are to choose from, pick such an ugly one.

Evoha16 just in case you were worrying about the perceived inconsistency of information regarding oxygen administration, anyone needing initial facial oxygen therapy will receive it at a flow rate of 4 litres per minute
If blood oxygen saturation is poor because of compromised lung function, the flow rate may well be increased significantly. So actually, the Prime Minister's description was quite something of an understatement. I do hope this helps.

I went to school,with a Wilfred and it seemed old fashioned then when we were Linda’s and carol and Alan and Chris etc but now I’m a nursery teacher and all of the kids have old fashioned d names Albie Hugo etc and the girls Harriet Maisie etc. So

I know a Wilf who is my age and he's a lovely man. I never really thought of it being oldfashioned, it's just his name!

Just how is the newborn child being "used"? Did he just conceive him all those months ago so as to have the "awww" factor on his side when he was under fire for his handling of the pandemic? That really would be advanced family planning- such foresight doesn't really sound like Boris, does it?
