What do you keep in your loft

Nothing, except insulation. When we moved in there was a single bed, an old door and some carpet the previous owners had left, which we got rid of.
The garage plays host to the Christmas trees and the decorations for them live in a cupboard under the stairs.
The garage isn't over full as my car goes in, but it does have suitcases in the roof space and ladders around the edge, the boiler, plus a few other bits and pieces , oh and the washing machine, but all very tidy.

Don't you mean who,,,,,,hehe.

I had a strict rule when we moved here in ‘89 nothing to be put into the loft (except insulation). Unfortunately the garage no longer has space for a car ?

Nothing, never even been up there, and don`t want to either.

When we bought this house one of the first things we did was to get the loft boarded and a proper ladder installed.
The only things I know are up there are:

Jigsaws which we swap around regularly, especially this year
Christmas decorations
A collection of pottery which has lost what value it had. I don’t have room to display it all.
My university books

The rest is DH’s stuff and has not been touched since we moved here 7 years ago. Lots of academic journals, electronic gadgets, two huge speakers.......why he wanted to keep this stuff I do not know.

At the moment it is DD1’s two cats. Don’t panic, the loft is converted and it seemed the best place to keep them while they acclimatise as they will be staying with is until they with DD1 and her girls move on. (Since you ask they are settling slowly, the door is left open and they can explore as soon as they feel ready).

Our television aerial, more suitcases than two people can ever use, my work accounts , shrinking by a year each March, Christmas decorations, boxes for any electrical items still under warranty, my ‘posh’ clothes waiting for our charity shops to accept donations again, Winter coats, two boxes of china, a folding wardrobe, some cushions and curtains, Mr C’s jigsaw collection. The loft is my domain, known as our ‘upper storage area’ I’m gradually shrinking the contents, it’s all tidy, would rather have it there than have over full cupboards.

Our loft used to be pretty full, but I started doing an annual car boot sale about 5 years ago, and have gradually reduced stuff. Got rid of various items I had just been hanging on to.

Still holds Christmas stuff, suitcases, various cardboard boxes that might be useful some day, my old dolls house, a set of shelves that house more stuff I should be car booting, but our regular venue not opening this year.

It’s all tidyish, but I know I still need to get rid of most of it.

Still too much, despite having emptied it and chucked masses of stuff some years ago, when dh re-boarded and re-insulated it. At least it’s fairly easy to access since he put in a pull-down ‘stairs’ thing ages ago.

Suitcases - one of which holds the dress and suit we were married in! - Christmas decorations and wrapping paper, leftover carpet, a travel cot for when a little Gdc stays, sundry stuff of dds’, goodness knows what else.

Insulation and nothing else!

Oh I wish I had a loft! My house is cluttered with stuff that is really loft filler. When I move to what will be my final, forever and perfect (eventually) home it will have a useable loft. Plus the many many other requisites on my list ?

Nothing!! It’s too small, thank goodness.
I learnt my lesson from my previous home. I had a large area boarded out and put stuff up there out of the way. I decided to apply for loft insulation and had to clear it ready for the installers. I thought it would take an hour or so to empty it and asked my DiL to help. We cleared a tiny fraction of it in an afternoon and my DS had to come at the weekend to help with the rest. The stuff took up every inch of the available space upstairs. We even had to store boxes and bags in the bath. I was horrified! I asked the installers just to leave a small area of boarding to force me to sort it all out. It turned out that most of belonged to my youngest who promptly took the majority of it to the tip!

We got rid of so much junk from our loft when we moved. Tables chairs tv's ornaments books various DIY stuff tools etc etc. DH is the biggest hoarder. Still has enough screws and nails to build 6 houses though!

Nothing. I am a believer in throwing things out and keeping just what you need and use. However I have a little chest at the end of my bed where I keep trousers I will never slim into. Also the chest is five hundred years old and if people hadn’t kept it I wouldn’t have the pleasure of having it today.

We have a proper loft ladder and it has floor boards so everything gets shoved up there. All out of season clothing and duvets. Then there are about 6 suitcases of different sizes from large for cruises to weekend/overnight size. About 5 boxes of Christmas decos of different colour themes and the tree. Then one corner has boxes of items we need to sell/send to auction, which are leftover from when we had a stall at antiques fairs. Plus some stuff belonging to DD. Sounds like an awful lot having written it down, but now is not the time to try and move things on as I wouldn’t know where to take some of it in the present situation.

Friends emptied their loft, took stuff to the tip then sealed it up. That way they weren’t tempted to refill it. Wish we could do the same, need motivation. ?

Like many others - I’m surprised - ‘nothing’. Just cleared out for a move and the new house is a new build so nothing but insulation there. With the move and lockdown I’m now determined not to hang on to or acquire stuff that has no great beauty or utility. Whoops that puts me at risk!
