Watching repeats of the great British sewing bee(even though I don’t sew). They made a blouse with a pussy bow tie. I realised I’d never ever wear one. What would you never wear ?

LynneH Wed 21-Oct-20 11:11:55

The first blouse I ever made had a pussy-bow tie, leg of mutton sleeves and tiny, looped buttonholes. I wore it proudly. Mind you, it was the 70s. Wouldn’t touch anything like that with a barge pole these days

I don’t think any colour should be an absolute “No-no”, it’s how you wear them, your colouring and your confidence.
Many older women lack confidence although we may feel, looking around that some girls and young women show too much! But they usually get away with it.
I know that blue suits me, with white hair and I like to pep it up with red. So today I’m wearing a navy roll neck top and this cardigan from Seasalt last year with light indigo jeans.
I don’t kid myself that I look anything like the model - except in my mind’s eye!

Jeans, high heels, bustiers.

GrammaH Wed 21-Oct-20 11:20:41

Oh heavens yes, the " uniform" - those stripes Joules/Crew tops with one of their gilets & awful Skechers trainers....nasty! Wouldn't catch me in any of those, who wants to look like everyone else, we're not in school now! No cold shoulder tops, man made fabrics, old lady tweedy skirts, beige, mini skirts, bows, ripped jeans, Hotter shoes, anything from EWH(RIP) or Bon Marche or Cotton Traders or Ambrose or Damart...or Crocs shoes...I'm sure there's more!!

merlotgran Wed 21-Oct-20 11:20:44

Pastel colours - otherwise I look like I am dead!

Happysexagenarian Wed 21-Oct-20 11:22:10

Leggings
A onesie
Cropped tops
Anything tight fitting
Gold or silver lamé

I’ve only just Arrived on this thread, hello all. I agree with almost everything said and would like to add short dressing gowns. Why oh why is it so difficult to find a nice long one?

Gwenisgreat1 Wed 21-Oct-20 11:27:19

Top of the list
Bikini
Anything tight
Crop tops
shorts
Boob tubes
Etc

Nanny27 Wed 21-Oct-20 11:30:02

Thought that was a selfie for a moment there Maw. Was about to be very impressed!

Newatthis Wed 21-Oct-20 11:30:58

I think Pru Leith is very adventurous with her colour and necklace choice, I'm not sure I would be that brave although she looks fab in them.

Issipy Wed 21-Oct-20 11:31:59

What age is too old for jeans? Curious because my friend, same age as me, has abandoned them, and I'm still wearing them....we're both 75.

MawB2 Wed 21-Oct-20 11:33:21

Oh heavens yes, the " uniform" - those stripes Joules/Crew tops with one of their gilets & awful Skechers trainers....nasty!

Ah well, all a matter of opinion and what the Germans call “Geschmacksache”
I like my Joules tops (they are not ALL stripey Breton tops) my gilets are possibly the most useful things I own - I have 2, one bright pink, one navy - and Skechers trainers among the comfiest I possess.
However, that’s me put in my place. But nasty ? confusedconfused

I actually had a blouse with a pussy bow tie in the 80s - bought it from M&S and it was a real pain as the tie would never stay tied up, whatever I did!
Would never wear :
Shorts (not with my thunder thighs!)
Leather (or even plether) trousers
Bikinis
Skirts above the knee (been there done that)
Anything angora or lambswool (spend too much time itching!)
Anything cropped tops or trousers - the cropped tops were the worst "fashion" ever - unfortunately the sight of all the bare flabby bellies that appeared for several summers as soon there was any sunshine was not pleasant to say the least - and that was just the men!!

SueEH Wed 21-Oct-20 11:38:53

Wouldn’t be seen dead in...
Crocs
Frills
Pussy bows!
Nighties
Cold shoulder tops
Any fleece that isn’t black or navy with a zip
But.... love my..
Jeans
Skirts above the knee with leggings and boots
Red Kickers boots
Tunic tops
And my bikini!!

Cambia Wed 21-Oct-20 11:39:56

Leopard print
Crocs
Ra ra skirts
Frilly clothes
Thongs

This is all revisable apart from the thongs! Last week would have added comfy sheepskin slippers but just got a pair and can’t take them off, they are so comfortable!
Love love love leggings and clumpy boots though.

maddyone Wed 21-Oct-20 11:46:12

A bikini - not now, have worn in the past
Mini skirt - again, not now but have worn in the past
A pussy bow - hate them
Ripped jeans - only for the young
Crocs - don’t like them
Anything with a cold shoulder - well, because my shoulders would be cold, can’t see the point of them
Dr Martin boots - ugh!

Moggycuddler Wed 21-Oct-20 11:48:42

Puff sleeves. Short skirts. High heels. Anything bright red, navy blue or black. (Those colours just don't suit me.)

b1zzle Wed 21-Oct-20 11:49:49

Have a very fond memory of a pussy-bow blouse I wore on the first evening of my honeymoon. During dinner, the bow refused to stay done up; new husband didn't/couldn't help but Cliff Michelmore saw my distress from his table; got to his feet, left his lovely wife alone and very graciously retied the bow beautifully for me.

Just saying ...

Phloembundle Wed 21-Oct-20 11:54:44

Leggings. Love animal prints.

AnnieOaklea Wed 21-Oct-20 11:59:00

A skinny rib, polo neck jumper. Wearing one now would display a pair of back and underarm boobs and a neck that’s supporting several chins ?

blueberry1 Wed 21-Oct-20 11:59:05

A jumpsuit - hideous things! Yellow anything, shorts, wide leg trousers. Cannot wear wool or anything with metallic fibres in due to allergies. And those coats with giant checks.

Riggie Wed 21-Oct-20 12:04:25

Frills and flounces. I'm also not a huge fan of "busy prints" - many of my clothes are solid colour or something like a stripe or dot.

I have worn crocs....on the beach but wouldnt wear then anywhere else

Missiseff Wed 21-Oct-20 12:09:59

Leggings

PollyDolly Wed 21-Oct-20 12:12:52

Slightly off-topic but relevant no less; what had Pru Leith got hanging around her neck on GBBO last night? They looked like some pelvic floor correction device! ??
