Hello All
I'm often awake in the small hours,
for a variety of reasons which I'm sure that many are familiar with.
So I'm starting this thread for anyone in the same position.
We can chat, share our 3am worries, whatever.
If you fancy popping on for whatever reason, here is the thread for all Night Owls moon
See you later x

Hello Night Owls, either by choice or reluctant
Just woken up
Back in a mo moon

Kim19 Fri 11-Dec-20 02:29:57

Hello Fanny et al. Sleep is eluding me. Had a lovely lunch with friends yesterday. We lingered on and when we eventually emerged it was dark. 'What time is it?' says I. Ten to six was the reply. So confirms the adage of time flying etc. Very pleasant indeed but, gosh, I really had no idea. Still astonished.

FannyCornforth Fri 11-Dec-20 02:47:28

That sounds lovely Kim
Was it very Christmassy?
What did you eat?
It's DH's birthday today (75tchshock).
I'm going to try to make the day especially special (somehow!)
I've already made him chocolate ovaltine with M&S sultana cookies, the lucky chap! tchgrin

Georgesgran Fri 11-Dec-20 02:47:48

Just got into bed now - big mug of tea handy. Have been emailing my SiL in Cheshire, keeping her up to date with DH’s illness. I’m wide awake and not remotely tired, so I’m going to visit some GN forums and read some comments to see if that acts as a sleeping pill!

FannyCornforth Fri 11-Dec-20 02:55:19

George'sgran, I hope that you are ok, I know that you have a lot on your plate at the moment.
Enjoy your tea and the peace and quiet moonbrew
That's what I like about being awake in the small hours, you don't feel pressured to be doing something...

Kim19 Fri 11-Dec-20 02:58:14

I'm amused we can be used as a sleeping pill, G. Feel free! Yep, lovely lunch, Fanny. Would say 'mundane' fish & chips but not even remotely so. Delicious, but far bigger portion than I managed to handle. Not even remotely Christmassy but just doing something a little 'normal' (beginning to find the meaning of that word somewhat fuzzy) can feel like Christmas at the moment. Just SO pleasant.......

FannyCornforth Fri 11-Dec-20 03:13:02

There's nothing mundane about fish and chips Kim
I was a strict vegetarians from being a child, but started eating fish about fifteen years ago.
I had fish and chips from the chippie five times in a row.
When we go to Whitby (which we used to do at least once a year) we have fish and chips nearly every day.
I love Whitby. I can't wait to go again.
It seems almost impossible at the moment tchsad

Fanny that’s me been awake since 2.30 I’m dying to get back to sleep it’s far too early what am I to do ? Good night

FannyCornforth Fri 11-Dec-20 03:29:15

Hello Elizabeth, now that you're here, I can think of one thing that you can do - tell us about the critters in your attic! tchsmile What are they?

Kim19 Fri 11-Dec-20 03:32:39

I've assumed it was either bats or mice. Any good?&

Greenfinch Fri 11-Dec-20 05:03:09

I am intrigued by the critters too.

Happy Birthday to your DH Fanny..I like the soundof the drink.

We are off to the Garden Centre today to buy some presents.. I was going to say last minute but for me this is normal.

FannyCornforth Fri 11-Dec-20 05:15:08

Hello Greenfinch
Yes, I heartily recommend chocolate ovaltine - it does seem to have magical sleep inducing qualities.
I have a very slow metabolism, so it hasn't kicked it yet!
This would be the time that is be buying presents, but I'm not really bothering much this year.
I'll send my dad and my Nan some things from Amazon. My Nan is in a care home - I'll send her a book and something else.
I'll get my dad a heated throw (much debated on here!) as he's always cold.
I'll probably get his wife one as well.
I'm postponing Christmas really.

cornergran Fri 11-Dec-20 08:50:50

Popped in to check on the Night Owls. Would you believe I slept for eight hours, can’t recall the last time that happened. I’m pleased your husband is feeling better Fanny and a very happy birthday to him. ?There’s a heated throw from the big red man under our tree for me, so far I’m resisting the temptation to declare Christmas has come early ?. Oh, the chance to go out and eat fish and chips would be wonderful, nothing mundane about that. Have a good day everyone, you never know I may see you tonight.

FannyCornforth Sat 12-Dec-20 01:20:46

Hello again everyone moon
Bumping this for anyone who is awake and wants to chat (or indeed have a moan or a rant tchsmile)

I do hope that Elizabeth will pop in and tell us more about her loft lodgers.

I won £110 on the horses today! shamrock DH and I had a couple of bets and watched the racing from Cheltenham on TV (it was DH's birthday). We also has a few glasses of cinnamon Jack Daniels (yum), a buffet tea and watched Friday Night Dinner in Netflix. So quite a good day really tchsmile

Puzzler61

Might a lavender bag heated in the microwave before bed help, if you placed it on or near the bad side?

I tried a heated lavender bag on my shoulder and it does seem to be a lot better. It was a bit damp when I microwaved it (it’s very old!) so I didn’t think it would help. Am going to continue with it and see what happens.....

cornergran Sat 12-Dec-20 02:46:07

Wide awake and about to make a pot of decaffeinated tea. No real reason not to be asleep, a bit achey and a few twinges, nothing bad enough to keep me awake. Maybe the long sleep I had last night hmm. Ive had a microwave hot water bottle warming the base of my spine for most of the afternoon and evening. It certainly helps. Think I’m off to make a piece of toast to go with the tea. I’m so lucky Mr C is a sound sleeper.

Greenfinch Sat 12-Dec-20 04:39:55

I am glad you had a good day yesterday Fanny and luck was on your side. It is nice to mark a special day by doing something different.Went to the garden centre yesterday and spotted something for DD so will go back today and buy it. Also we will deliver our small number of local cards.

Kim19 Sat 12-Dec-20 05:36:00

Morning all! Just done the 'reckoning ' and realise it's Saturday. Yippee! Saturday is one of my favourite radio days then iced off by Strictly in the evening. I'm certainly going to miss that when it ends next week. I find it very uplifting. Used to really enjoy dancing. Still do but opportunities are few and far between nowadays. Had a really successful day shopping yesterday. Successful means I actually got what I went for as well as some bonus knick knacks I hadn't considered. Also found perfect b/d card for son. Cheeky but relevant. Love it. Browsing sometimes pays off, thank goodness. I seem to always have an ongoing challenge. Current one is to try master a new telly I've bought. So far...rubbish...but I do have the handbook and I will succeed. Think I'm going backwards with the tecchie stuff. Either that or it's moving so fast, I can't keep up! Onwards.........

FannyCornforth Sat 12-Dec-20 05:45:38

'Morning Kim
It's my favourite radio day too!
Any Questions / Answers, Nick Abbot and Jim Davis late night, and, I can hardly contain myself
- Dead Ringers is back!!!tchgrin
Good luck with the TV!shamrock

Kim19 Sat 12-Dec-20 06:12:56

Hi Fanny! Don't you find the contributors to any answers speak more sense and practicality than the professionals and specialists who are on the question panel?

Kim19 Sat 12-Dec-20 06:16:00

I think Anita Anand is brilliant. She is so wonderfully disciplined, kind and in control and seems to know her stuff big time. I really fancied her for question time after Dimbleby but maybe radio is her forte.

FannyCornforth Sat 12-Dec-20 07:43:10

Yes, Anita is very good; very calm and measured.
I like Chris Mason too.
But sooo looking forward to Dead Ringers!

Rufus2 Sat 12-Dec-20 12:42:25

Fanny Not exactly a night owl, but your 3am is our 2pm, so I'd be happy to talk about what I had for lunch.
Fryday is always chish and fips! tchgrin

Tonight will be a good night. The doc suggested Phorpain gel for my shoulder, and so far it’s good, but will it work at night? Watched The Wheel tonight. I’m still not sure I like it, but tonight’s ending was hilarious so if laughing is good for us . . .
Hope everyone else sleeps well tonight.

nannan Sat 12-Dec-20 23:45:54
