One upmanship

So, over the last few weeks I have seen one upmanship on GN about the following:

Curtain v plantation shutters
Paint v wallpaper
Sausages (cheap and fatty v butchers)
Easter eggs
Holidays (2nd home v beach and poool)
Houses (detached v anything else)

Have I missed anything?

We own a cottage in Wales we bought it with inheritance money. We enjoyed the freedom of going there as a family. Now our family (when we can eventually see them) is our priority. We decided to put it on the market because what time we have is family time.
We ran a small business passed on from FIL it gave us a good living but we worked hard for it. I appreciate what we have but don't feel the need to boast about it. What's the point we all live different lives that's what makes us unique.

To be honest I see very little boasting on GN - it would be silly anyway as, with a few exceptions, we are all anonymous.

Must admit though, I live in a shoe-box and do at times get utility room, paddock, library, extensive gardens, orangery, front drive-envy! grin

So, to conclude. The OP is a load of codswhallop. That’s my polite word so as not to offend ?

I have read comments where people are sneered at for their choice of reading or TV programmes watched which is as bad as the one-upmanship.

I do not believe everything I read on here about what people have. There was a photo of a house and garden on a thread with the poster saying about the view from her window that day, as I recognised the area I googled the image. It was a stock photo of a house in 2003.

I have missed all this, what on earth happened re Easter eggs? grin

Ellianne Tue 23-Mar-21 12:40:45

Lucca there have been a few interesting car threads started by people asking about makes to buy. Inevitably it went from minis to Range Rovers. That's why mine got mentioned. Not that I ever paid for it outright! Some of us confessed to being speed junkies

That definitely wasn't me! grin

How interesting Cornish

How ridiculous !
I could not care remotely what other people may, or not have in terms of wealth. How superficial is that ? I either like you or I do not, no thought of some outmoded scale of hierarchy.
You buy Farrow and Ball, I buy Dulux . I buy Joseph , you buy Primark, - who cares ????
In these times of such turmoil the last thing thing we should be thinking about is any kind of envy or oneupmanship.

Ellianne Tue 23-Mar-21 12:45:55

And what about the decadent poster who said they get Cornish fish boxes delivered every week? Now that is something I envy!

But it has led to an amusing conversation. And goodness knows, there are enough laughs to be had at the moment.

Ellianne Tue 23-Mar-21 12:47:21

That's funny Cornish putting up a magazine picture!

Now that is interesting, cornishpasty. I’ve seen a few members outed in a similar way on Mumsnet. Perhaps it was someone who decided to move over to give us all view envy.

Ellianne Tue 23-Mar-21 12:53:15

And my pedigree dog cost over a thousand, but still poops like any other mut.

annsixty Tue 23-Mar-21 12:54:23

Someone said a few days ago that although she had a very quiet wedding ,the media were there and they got free champagne at the hotel as her husband was recognised.
Now that truly is oneupmanship.
She actually is a regular and genuine poster.

Maggiemaybe Tue 23-Mar-21 12:54:59

Surely not. I’d expect gold dust and sparkles for that price. Rose scented.

Whoops. That was to Ellianne and her dog poo post.

Oh no, I responded to the thread about animals this morning and said my dog can tell the time (he can!) was that one upmanship? (Oneupdogship?)

Ah. Ive never seen those, hence my query.

Marydoll Tue 23-Mar-21 13:09:36

I've never noticed oneupmanship on here. If that is the case, I would be afraid to post anything in case I was being judged.
I don't believe people are intentionally boasting.

I don’t mind that ! I do mind not knowing who he was.....I’m very nosy/nosey.

annsixty Tue 23-Mar-21 13:12:34

Oh I agree.
I posted in the hope she would be forthcoming.?

Lucca Tue 23-Mar-21 13:15:43

I wonder if RL we all know someone who appears to boast ! I know a lady who has a kind heart but still manages to give the impression she’s been everywhere, seen every exhibition, read every book, can cook everything and her children and grandchildren are amazing, she’s run off her feet having them all to stay and do creative things with them (pre Covid). Sorry that turned into a bit of a rant, but being around people like her doesn’t help my tendency to feel inferior !

What do you reckon ? Actor ? Rock star ? Politician ?great train robber ?

Cornishpasty
We bought a house in Cornwall in order to demolish and rebuild in 2019. Due to Covid planning has taken ages. Anyway, my son found a photo taken from the garden as a plot for sale including the field beyond our boundary !!
Soon sorted but did involve a few sleepless nights at the time.
Never ceases to amaze me how dishonest some people can be.
