I am as Northern as they come and have Southern GC who sit on the grarss take a Barth etc but I have always had a gararge.

We had a 'garridge' and were obliged to keep our bikes in it overnight. I can't understand why so many youngsters nowadays keep bikes outside (my GC included). No wonder a lot of them get stolen. I was reliably(?) informed that a great aunt whom I never knew had married the managing director of Johnny Walker. Not that my family ever felt the benefits!

Puzzler, we had a garage pronounced GARage. Man next door actually a nice man, had moved from social housing to an owned semi and he said garADSHE.

My granny had a drawing room but it was never used except when the minister came to tea. But we were all allowed to use the croquet lawn.

Lifestyle choices are social class markers. If anyone wants to move up or down the social class gradient they should learn the subtle markers of the class they aim to join.

My childhood schoolfriend’s mum was a bit posh. They had a car and a garage - we had neither.
If I mentioned the garage, she would correct me and say “it’s a Garrashe, not garage”.

Ooh, I have two bathrooms- both with full size bath and shower, one upstairs and one down-(the maid hates the extra cleaning but what can I do?). Does this enable me to qualify to the 'one-up-man-ship' club?
I do hope so- if not we also have a conservatory and a summer house (aka Mr M's shed)- will these do as an alternative entry?
