Good morning all. -3° in Polmont and a lovely day albeit cold. I have a trip to Aldi soon and some housework. Yesterday I weeded front and back gardens. I keep on top of the weeds so it didn't take long. I heard good news. My son in law has a new job! He was made redundant in December because of covid then became unwell. He's still not fully recovered but I'm hoping this new job will help him. He's had more tests done so hopefully a course of antibiotics will sort things out. Have a good day all.

Good morning from a grey and chilly North Hampshire. Yesterday my daughter took me for fish and chips by the sea. I’ve been craving them for what seems like months! Annoyingly I can’t walk far at the moment, but enjoyed a short amble along the sea front.

It was during this trip out that we heard the news of the Duke’s sad, but not unexpected, death. I sincerely hope the Queen gets all the support she’ll need. I’m worried about her.

Good morning from North Yorkshire. Clear blue skies and frosty lawns today.
I used the last of the stored rain water for the pots yesterday. It’s a long time since we had ‘proper’ rain. The lawns need feeding but that will have to wait until we have a wet spell.
Some ironing to do after my Saturday treat of coffee and croissants.

Good Morning everyone. We have ☔️ Today and tomorrow. Neglected indoors chores will go ahead (or not), but happy that rain will help the lawn which was cut and fed yesterday.

Busy birds are still working on a very good nest at the top of a pillar and under cover - literally, not MI6 stuff! I put some fluffy bits out there yesterday and they’ve incorporated that into their Grand Design. Looks like a very good nest this year - not slapdash at all! They’ve raised their babies very successfully every year and we’ll keep fingers crossed for that again.

Try to find some pure soap, such as Savon de Marseille, Gaga. You want something plant and olive oil based - nothing synthetic, perfumed or involving petroleum. I was desperate when I found that my Mum had just been left on Quinine Sulphate tablets (no checks made) for her restless leg problem, then nightly cramps. My cleaning lady recommended I use the soap in the bed. My Mum was terribly sceptical about anything as a very old lady, so I never told her.

The staff in the Home used to make her bed and leave the big bar of soap at the feet end and Mum was so small that her feet would never have touched the soap. She stopped talking about her rotten sleep, due to cramps, and one day when I asked her about the problem, she said she didn’t have nightly cramp anymore! Maybe it only works for some people, but worth a try I feel.

I, too, was very sad about Prince Philip’s death. Not entirely unexpected, but nevertheless the end of an era and, for the Queen, an incredibly difficult loss to cope with.

Glad you feel better, GG, and hope yesterday brought you some brightness in having a joint treat, harri. The champagne siesta was just a bonus. Hope your arm recovers very soon now,

Good morning from a decidedly chilly Essex by the sea. We were out early as DH had to be dropped off. Home now and I have an empty until I collect him this afternoon.
I'm having a Zoom call with DD2 and DGD1 and DGD5 later, looking forward to that.
No other plans so may start my new cross stitch that arrived yesterday.
I also was very sad to hear about the DofE, a huge loss to the Queen.

Good morning from a much brighter Black Country.

Had my hearing aid tubes changed yesterday, and the difference is quite remarkable! Everything suddenly seemed much louder.

Jet2 sent an email yesterday cancelling our flight to Rhodes. In fact all flights up to and including 23rd June. We were meant to go on the 13th. I am quite relieved as I didn't really want to go, but now we get a refund. We shall start looking at booking campsites with our touring caravan on those dates now. We have flights booked to Portugal in late September (booked in 2019) but no accommodation yet. I am not keen on that either, but probably we will have to lose the money .

Such a sad day yesterday hearing of the loss of D of E. Even radio channels changed their programming.

I had my second Pfizer jab yesterday, the site is slightly tender, but I feel fine, so far so good! Really looking forward to the shops opening on Monday, I need some buttons and birthday cards. Good morning Michael and all GNs from a slowly brightening South Yorkshire. I have my second Covid jab later today but wouldn’t have known a thing about it had I not taken it upon myself to phone the surgery yesterday to find out if I was anywhere near being offered one, only to be told I had been booked in since Wednesday. No one let me know! It’s all very unusual. I got a text and then a reminder last time.
Nothing much planned today. We may go out at some point of I can lever DH away from the golf. Have the best day you can folks.

Husband and son are bell ringers so will be contributing to 99 rings for Prince Philip in local church at noon. Watched quite a bit of the coverage yesterday. Decided needed cheering up in the evening and watched a favourite "Derry Girls" episode.

It looks as if we have had rain in the night and judging by the sky just now, I think it's possible that we will get some more.

The birds are busy collecting nesting materials, especially the starlings. We have some that use our eaves every year. They sound as if they have clogs on their feet! ?

Had a lovely chat with our neighbour in her garden yesterday afternoon - it was quite warm in the sun, and her garden, like mine, is quite sheltered from any wind, so it was pleasant. It's so nice to have a little bit of normality heading in our direction again. Still a long way to go, I know, but it's a start.

Then, in the evening had a zoom chat with friends from work (we are all retired now, bar one). The hours whizzed by and it was so good to catch up with everyone. We are looking forward to the day when we can go back to being "ladies who lunch", but that's still some way off, of course. Thank goodness for the wonders of technology in the meantime. I think our parents would be amazed at what is possible if they could see it.

It's a good thing you checked with the surgery, greyduster. It's strange how we sometimes have the urge to check things out, isn't it?

Good Morning, Mick and all from a brilliantly sunny Cumbrian coast. We had quite a hard frost last night which is still hanging about. I was hoping to mow the lawn but I'm going to have hold off for a while yet.
Yesterday, I had an interesting medical interview. My GPs have had carried out extensive investigations on me and my weight loss and nothing has been found. They don't know what consultant might be appropriate so they've referred me to a local pilot project. This is aimed at people showing symptoms which could be cancer but none has been found. I had a long interview with the doctor in charge who has free access to any consultant she may wish to approach. Her gut feeling...I don't have a cancer but my symptoms may be due to a combination of my haemachromatosis (iron overload) and stress caused by my home moves and lockdown. I shall now have to wait and see what happens next but I am a happier bunny.

Poor bereft Queen, she will suffer as we all do, sadly.

I forgot to pick up the cat's new medicine at the local vet yesterday so need to drive over to the main surgery 15 miles away as it has run out. Another farm shop visit en route for me.

We're just watching The Opening Show ahead of the racing this afternoon, hoping the experts will offer some guidance on which horses to pick. Afterwards I'm going to sow seeds in the greenhouse before lunch, then settle down to watch the racing.

I understand your relief to have heard that your holiday flights have been cancelled NannyJan. We have a holiday booked for early July and are hoping they cancel it. We don't really want to go at this time, but we're waiting to see what happens. We're hoping to move the date to next year and if they cancel it won't cost any more but if we cancel it will.

Right, I'm off to get my pin ready to choose my horses!

Scaffolding down in the front, so have replaced my little green bistro table and chairs in their hidden corner, a handy little spot to sit in the sun. I’m busy putting baby spider plants in small containers. I hope they live, having a brown thumb and not a green finger.
I spoke to my sister in law yesterday and she has received a navy striped top meant for me by mistake. Her address was left on eBay. Just as well it wasn’t something embarrassing (not that I would...) love stripes, I think I was a gondolier in a previous life.
Sat reading my book outside the supermarket watching people coming and going, that’s how quiet my life is, and what a dreary lot we are! I don’t know if it’s lockdown, but so many in tracksuits, black, grey and some outfits couldn’t tell if they were pyjamas or not. Must say I’m not exactly a Vogue cover myself.

I haven't been feeling too good recently, so haven't had the energy to post, but I have tried to keep up with 'goings on'.
This week has been all about medical appointments, and I feel quite worn out with it all. The best bit is that I had a long conversation with a pharmacist and he insisted that I get on top of the pain relief. I am now trying to be good. Keep your fingers crossed for me.
I see that Marydoll hasn't posted yet today, please tell me that she is alright.
My poor old fridge has finally given up the ghost, and a new one is being delivered on Tuesday. The first time given was between 6.30 am and 8.30 am, but luckily I was able to change it to between 10.00 and 2.00 pm. Much more social hours, as I don't get up before 8.30 these days.
I was wondering if our microwave would still be able to fit , on a shelf, above the new fridge, as the measurements were a bit tight. Luckily DD and SIL were here, after bring us home from hospital, and I mentioned it to her. "Why can't it just stand on top of the fridge?" says she. I laughed so much, as it hadn't occurred to me, not to replace the shelf. All sorted, clever girl.
I am hoping DH will paint the wall behind where the fridge will go, but I'm not holding my breath!
Today I will try and finally finish my knitting, then nothing else planned, except to aort out what we shall eat this weekend.

Good morning all from a lovely sunny Angus coast. There's ice on the pond, mind - this winter just goes on giving!
So sad about the Duke of Edinburgh. When they showed footage of him coming out of hospital that last time I thought he maybe didn't have long left. I met him a couple of times when we used to live not far from Gordonstoun and he came up to visit Edward and Andrew there. He stayed with our CO and ,'paid for his keep' by having to meet some of us. He was everything you hear - handsome, charming, and a curmudgeonly old devil! Mind you, he had a lot to put up with! One time at an evening 'do' he was scheduled to meet our group at 11pm and had quite clearly had enough! So he just stood there grinning at us, hands behind his back and rocking back on his heels like Dixon of Dock Green. Well, as you probably know, Royalty speaks first so we all stood there smiling uncomfortably until one of the chaps standing next to him asked if he'd enjoyed his flight that day. "Bloody awful opening to a conversation" he said, turned his back on him and spoke to the man on his other side for the rest of his allotted time with us! To balance that, that same weekend the CO's daughter was going off to Brownies and he wouldn't let her go until he'd straightened her knecker and put her belt straight - he was good with children, just as they say.
Sorry about the reminiscences - blame the BBC (even one of their reporters is the daughter of friends of ours from that time!)
No wonder we tend to live in the past as we age - nothing exciting like that happens nowadays. A wee chat with lovely gardener is the high point of my week.
Must go now and do I know not what. Blitz the kitchen sounds a good idea. Will read all the posts later, but loved your photo of the flower arrangement in the front porch of your Church, Ash - I'm assuming it represents the Ascension?

A beautiful day but staying very cold. No sign of the pair of goldfinches this morning, perhaps they ate all the little insects that there were on the fir tree yesterday.

Well I didn't get done what I'd set out to do yesterday, apart from a bit of washing which included the living room voiles. Once the sad news came on that was that, things came to a halt. How alone the Queen must now feel.

I really must shift myself today. I'll start by peeling a few potatoes in readiness for dinner later. A steak and kidney pudding and runner beans is the order of the day, then that small task will be out of the way.

Didn't even ring D yesterday as I have a card and money for the start of the volly of Birthdays of the GGC. The boy will be 11 tomorrow and I haven't seen him for over a year

Reading my local news, there are only 2 cases of Covid in hospital here, so why can't surgeries slowly start getting back to normal ? So long as everyone's masked I don't see the problem.

Gaga the soap is worth a try. Grandmafrench with me, any old bit of soap did the trick. Didn't matter whether it was wrapped or not. I had the misfortune to be in hospital with a shattered femur (after someone shoved me on one of York's cobbled streets). I could not get out of bed to ease my cramp and begged a nurse for some. Which she got for me. A Pharmacist arrived to tell me he'd heard of this working but couldn't explain it. Neither could I but it worked so didn't care! When it stopped working I got some expensive lavender soap but it made no difference. When the cork stops working, I'll go back to the soap.

Good morning to all. The north of Scotland is cold but skies are blue so housework, a walk then watch the racing.
I felt very sad yesterday, for the Queen but also Prince Charles and his siblings. Losing a father is a blow but I am sure he will be a great support to his mother. The Easter photo of him with the Queen seemed a portent at the time.
