Wtf is this nest! Pterodactyl perhaps

Along with the dry rot, wet rot, woodworm, possible asbestos, blown plaster, disintegrating bricks and cracked terrazzo floor they’ll be fine. It’s a lovely house!

Not being alarmist (yes I am!) but there seems to be a proliferation of adders this year for some reason.

I had never had wasps nests until I moved into a rental cottage with a garage where I was storing all my possessions. The garage had a tin roof, and evidence of many abandoned wasps' nests, I used to spray it regularly to avoid new nests being built after finding a 'golf ball' sized one.

I would never remove honey or bumble bee nests, but I did have a wasps nest killed in the roof of the rental cottage just above the bathroom window. I felt very badly doing it, wasps are part of the circle of life and very useful to gardeners, but I was frightened they'd come into the house. I used to work at the RNIB in Notting Hill Gate, the college was housed in two beautiful old buildings. One day I went into the toilet and the toilet seat was covered in wasps - luckily I found it, not a student.

I had one in my garage years ago and couldn't go inside for the entire Summer. I didn't want to destroy it. It grew as big as a football too. Your DS's looks enormous.

I'd submit it as an entry to a Tate Modern upcoming exhibition?

We found one in the loft of our 1930s house when we first moved in (many years ago). It was an absolute work of art; paper thin and very fragile with a beautiful honeycomb design. It's hard to imagine that a wasp (or bee) could be responsible for making such a thing of beauty!

He has since found another four, thankfully all vacant. I have asked for internal photos to share.
It’s a recently purchased 1930’s property, empty for five years so they’ll have a ball demolishing some hideous modernisation attempts and retaining the lovely doors, skirtings and some remaining picture rails.

Definitely a wasp ‘byke’. Looks an old one. We found a huge one when demolishing an old kitchen, an amazingly intricate work of art! I was going to take it to the local school fir the children to see but sadly one of the builders managed to drop it?

Wasps abandon their nests at the end of the season, when they all die. The queen does not return to the nest the following year. We found about half a dozen in various parts of our roof when we moved in and had a live one on several occasions.

Yes it certainly looks like a wasp or hornet nest. They don't use old nests, apparently, but if it's still in use, the insects will be flying around it, so be careful. If it is still in use, it will need to be dealt with professionally.

Wasps I think. You have to get a specialist to remove it.

It looks like a massive wasp nest to me. I mean, a very large nest made by wasps, not by one huge wasp!
