soop, sorry to hear you've had a fall, hope you feel better very soon. Bathrooms do seem to be the place for falls, Take care.

Did you have to have your smart meter fitted Jaxjacky?
We are having to have one fitted next month, (apparently it was part of our contract with the electricity company)!? we didn't realise that was a condition, we have had the same company for the past 15 years, (E.ON, that's the only one that covers our holiday home on the NW Norfolk coast, it is a bit remote!!).
We'll see how it goes.....

It's very windy, & wet, here in Cambs., forecast is the same for the next 28 hours. sad

BladeAnnie Thu 20-May-21 17:40:32

Aww I feel like you are all going to be with me next Thursday flowers. soop I do hope you are OK after such a nasty fall - quite a shock I would imagine. I've been on nanna duty this afternoon, just got home and having a restoritive herbal tea. I think a simply cook recipe is on the menu tonight and I'm rather hoping Mr BA takes charge in the kitchen smile. As always there's some beautiful photos for us all to enjoy. GrandmaFrench Duncan was patiently waiting to say hello to Paxo and all the other feline and canine friends but he's left now to attend to other matters!! Hope everyone has a pleasant evening and gentle virtual hugs to all who are in need of a little comfort

soop Thu 20-May-21 17:51:31

dustyangel Yes, our view is due west. Your photograph is beautiful. Tranquility personified.
I was about to sit on "the throne" but, in the near dark, I misjudged the space between me and the seat. Toppled sideways. Weed on the floor. Couldn't help myself. Both lumps are on the back of my head. The one that pains me most is inches away from my ear. Like our Galen, I shall survive.

Doodle I may well come back as a cat. At least a cat knows how to fall and still land on it's feet. grin

We got so fed up with the nuisance phone calls we stopped answering for the rest of the afternoon. Family and friends have our mobile number.

Mr Soop rang the bank and reported that some bod had said there had been an illegal transaction. The lady was very helpful and was on the line for some time. All's well, apparently. That makes us feel a whole lot better.

Tomorrow morning will be busy for a number of reasons. One being, we complete the transaction on the car. Exciting times. It has a manual gearbox. I'm now used to automatic. We shall need to find a quiet, empty road in order for me to test drive it.

Goodbye until tomorrow afternoon. Thank you for your company. smile moon

soop Thu 20-May-21 17:52:37

Sorry, gillgran I meant to thank you for your kind words. flowers

brook2704 Thu 20-May-21 18:35:56

Some beautiful feline pictures and stories in the kitchen today showing us how to relax and enjoy life! Thank you all
Oh dear soop sorry to hear you had a tumble, take care next time you’re up in the night. The nuisance phone calls are awful and that’s one of the reasons why we don’t have a landline any more, we just use the mobiles instead. I’ve received quite a few scams by text though so you still have to be very careful...
DH saw a rabbit in the garden this morning, he wasn’t too pleased as he didn’t want his plants nibbled! We don’t often see them here so don’t know where it’s from
We’ve got baked salmon, lemon rice and peas is on the menu tonight, it’s almost ready - yummy
Hope everyone has a lovely relaxing evening, take care all

Jaxjacky Thu 20-May-21 19:11:22

Oh soop falls are not good at anytime, but nighttime far worse, May you heal quickly and we’ll x.
I’m chilled, three garden centres, rain, wind, 12deg but according to weather app, ‘feels like 8’, absolutely right. But, I have a car full of plants, where this wind and rain, Yia sane as you, won’t topple them over. Mr J is cooking sausages, mash and beans, just the job, I’ll bid you adieu x

Sorry re spelling, internet playing up on iPad.

Grandmafrench Thu 20-May-21 19:14:12

Hello lovelies

Unfortunately soop has already left the building !!
But, I was going to say - and hope you pick this up on the morrow, my dear - I was so pleased that you explained your accident. They always seem much better when explained. Firstly I am so sorry you are hurt - and hitting your head x 2 is really not clever. Egg shaped lumps? Horrible. BUT, you have cheered me greatly by not only being able to explain the fall, how you fell, why you fell, you also showed that you cared not a damn, by weeing on the floor. Love it! Well, maybe it's a buggeration if you have to clear it up, but at least you only misjudged the seat. Do you wake up and stay in the dark when you do your midnight loo visits? Hope not. If you do, that must stop because you will do yourself some serious harm. I am so glad you never just fell and have no idea why. You're a real trouper to come back on here in the morning and make comical remarks about banks and bluddy scam 'phone calls.

So pleased you will have a new car and be able to spend time polishing your new method of driving. We still have one of each here - a manual and an automatic. I must admit I do tend to get a little over-excited in the manually gearboxed one and very occasionally 'Someone' points out that I might like to give some attention to a gear change!? That's not very often, but it does make me think just how easy an automatic is. Have great fun with your new toy and plenty of vinegar & brown paper applications for those head bumps!

Shame Paxo missed young Duncan - she wouldn't have liked him, though. He may be a total love and a bit of a dish, but she has never liked another cat, including the one she lives with. She only likes people. Yes, that sort of cat !!

We shall all make a note of young Fern's preferences so that we can start a Christmas fund early for her festive meals, since you and Mr S will probably be in the poor house by then, soop.

Syn your description of Mr Syn's collisions with the porcelain are hilarious, (naughty, but hilarious). ?

Have a good evening and a safe, peaceful night's sleep all. Stay in bed - it's bound to be safer. x

annodomini Thu 20-May-21 19:21:22

Oh soop, yet another fall. Was the light on when this happened? Bathrooms are an awful trap, so many hard surfaces for the unwary. Are you sure you're not concussed? Falling off the throne is a new one, though.
I also had a spam call this today. Caller, claiming to be a power company (unspecified) adviser, asked if I was the homeowner at 'this address'. Smelling an outsized rat, I asked him which address he was referring to. He shut down the line at that point. Beware!
DS rang to remind me to watch the Zoom webcast from my GS's school awards evening as DS (15) would be mentioned. He got an award for progress in Business Studies which, I think, he is going to take at A-level. He has really pulled up his socks in Year 11 - not before time!

annodomini Thu 20-May-21 19:26:37

Re scams, I meant to add that I keep getting a text to tell me that a certain Mr Jones had been using my HSBC account. Oddly enough I don't have and never have had an account at that bank. But the texts keep on coming!

brook2704 Thu 20-May-21 19:49:41

I had a similar one Anno a message from Lloyds bank saying there had been a attempt to access my account and I should click on this link to review it .. But I don’t have an account with Lloyds.. The scams are getting much cleverer so you have to be on your guard
Jaxj looks like a good trip to the garden centers - what else is there to do when it’s cold wet weather!

Urmstongran Thu 20-May-21 19:55:40

‘Evening All’.

I can only imagine the scariness of that misjudged seating arrangement soop as you double-whammied your head. I bet it shook you up good & proper. No wonder it took you an hour to get back off to sleep. I bet your heart was hammering too. Hope tonight is uneventful and you sleep well.

Talking of hammering - it is here. Absolutely bucketing it down with rain. Such a change from yesterday’s weather. Sunshine & showers. Too right and I’ve had enough now.

The boy wonder had a football match after his tea. He rang grandad on the way home. Delighted to recount he was team captain (I think they take turns) and ‘guess what?’ (I love 8y olds ask that it’s so funny when you think of all you could reply!) “I scored the first goal”.

Had to laugh when I heard grandad ask him “was it football tonight or swimming in all that rain?” Heart melts. One happy tired boy is already in bed apparently (text from daughter just now).

Hope we all have a peaceful night ahead of us. x

cornergran Thu 20-May-21 20:02:45

Evening from a wild and windy Cornwall. It hasn’t stopped us going out and about but boy, thought I’d be blown over at one point. The lawn is littered with pieces of branch, the squirrels are in hiding and the birds have been nowhere to be seen.

Please stay upright, soop, it’s to be recommended. Enjoy that new to you car, you’ll soon get the hang of it.

Home tomorrow, hopefully with a tail wind not the sort of head wind we had for one memorable journey towing our caravan to Cornwall. With a head wind it seemed to take forever. Arriving with some relief at our site we found a sheltered pitch and then discovered we’d lost a firmly closed roof light somewhere on the motorway. It explained why I was getting wet inside the van. grin.

Thinking our temporary fix with a bin bag would have to last the weekend a mobile caravan repairer came to our aid at 6pm. Explaining the obvious that plastic fittings deteriorate over time he replaced the missing roof light and the fittings on the other one - just in case - before wishing us a happy holiday and going off for his tea. I could have hugged that man. smile.

Congratulations to your grandson anno, he’s done well.

Take care everyone.

ixion Thu 20-May-21 20:03:57

Thinking tonight of grandmajet and her family, and praying for a happy outcome?

brook2704 Thu 20-May-21 20:17:31

Safe journey home tomorrow cornergran hope it’s not too windy and a very well done to your DGS Urms team captain and first goal - brill ?

I second that ixion hoping all ok with grandmajet ?

Jaxjacky Thu 20-May-21 20:29:19

gillgran no, we’re not obliged to have a smart meter, but to email readings in once a month and I got fed up with going outside to do it!

Hellogirl1 Thu 20-May-21 21:38:42

I had a smart meter fitted because I read that it was going to be compulsory soon, and then we`d have to pay, so had one whilst it was free. Needless to say, I never take any notice of it, except when I dust it!
Soop, sorry to hear of your mishap, are you alright now? It must have been incredibly painful. Why didn`t you put the light on?
Last night we had a power cut. Everything went off just after 9.15 pm and didn`t come back on until 4.40 am. Lynne`s carers had to work by torchlight when they came to put her to bed, and I couldn`t go to bed because I didn`t trust the stairlift to have enough power in it to get me up there and back down in the morning. I tried to sleep on the settee, but no luck, so finally crawled into bed just before 5 am, only to have to get up at 6.30 when the alarm went off, so I`ve been ever so slightly kn-----ed all day.
Corner, we lost a skylight once, returning from Scotland, didn`t know until we got home, cost £70 for a new one fitting.
I went to see the new baby yesterday afternoon, so here are a couple of pics. There are the proud grandparents, the new dad and grandad, and the baby with his old crone of a great grandmother!

Hellogirl1 Thu 20-May-21 21:40:26

Sorry, forgot the photos!

Grandmafrench Thu 20-May-21 22:43:51

Gorgeous little man - and you're not a Crone! You look super and that child is going to love you to bits, definitely. (Maybe almost as much as that cat! ?)

muse Thu 20-May-21 22:50:35

Such a blustery day. Rain stopped play work. Tomorrow looks bad too.

Just a few lines tonight. Early night. Loved my return to Pilates today.

soop I can recommend the Call Guardian Phones. We need a landline and bought the BT one from Amazon £32. Had it four weeks now. Not one nuisance call.

Lovely photos especially the baby Hellogirl11

Night zzzzzzz

cornergran Thu 20-May-21 23:27:44

Definitely not an old crone hellogirl. Thank you for sharing such happy photos, a new baby is very precious indeed.

soop Fri 21-May-21 14:44:14

A red letter day. The car is sooooooooooooo shiny, scratch-free smart. It's also extremely comfortable. Mr Soop is settling down with the user manual. After which, I shall ask pertinent questions.

Hellogirl You, my dear, are a lovely lady with hair to die for. The wee baby is gorgeous. Lots of cuddles are called for.

Grandmafrench I shall take a photo of the throne and the closely situated wash basin with the bulky "underbit!. I do not use the bathroom light because the dim bedroom night-light has always been sufficient. That is, I can easily see the door. The bathroom interior is very much darker and I am aware of how many paces it takes to reach the throne. I usually back-in towards it and...I normally plant myself firmly on the seat. I obviously miscalculated. It happens when one's IQ is on the low side. wink

muse We shall look into your suggestion. Thank you.

Away to wash the dishes. I shall return. x

soop Fri 21-May-21 14:56:45

Photo of the throne and the mighty big under carriage of the wash basin. This caused the largest egg. The rim of the basin, the smaller egg. Suite is white. Camera on wrong setting.

Charleygirl5 Fri 21-May-21 14:56:49

Hellogirl that baby is just gorgeous but I hate to say it, I prefer Billy! He will have taken over the house completely by now.

soop lovely to hear that the bright, shiny car has a new abode. It sounds very smart.

cornergran I hope you are home by now, have unpacked and have enjoyed a cup of tea or coffee in your own abode. I hope you feel refreshed after your recent trip and that the food was good. I will not mention the weather.

BladeAnnie it is not long now! Is Duncan going into a cattery? Not quite the same as his house.
