I remember it well, I got mine pieced on my 13th birthday, went to the jewellers with my mum and felt very brave sitting there waiting for the needle, ? was disappointed I couldn’t have nice gold studs though , had to have the awful thin hoop, felt very grown up and couldn’t wait until Xmas few months later to get my first gold studs

I was 19, but in later years developed a sensitivity to anything in my ears, gold, silver or nickel and they’ve closed up now. I don’t miss them tbh

I was brought up by my gran. She wouldn’t let me have my ears pierced as she too thought it common. However she said when I earned my own money it would be up to me. I saved the money from my first Saturday job and had them done. Nan never said anything and bought me some earrings for my 18 th birthday.

I can’t remember but it was nearer 40 I think.

I have all sorts from fun beach and country type earrings to some very special gems which come out of their box on special occasions.

I don’t mean like her maj??? they are more discrete ?

I have never had them pierced

I was twenty, always wear either diamond or pearl studs.

I was 16. Then again about 30 and have never had a day without wearing my earrings. Funky, classy.... whatever suits.
There’s nothing like a pair of Pearl earrings to dress up an outfit.

I had mine done when I was 5, at my request. I offered my twin daughters for their 5th birthday - the eldest had hers done, which scared her sister so much that she ran away from the shop!

She eventually had hers done when she was 6.

Then they both had seconds at 15 - and so did I at age 52.

Now, at 17, the youngest has three piercings, and her sister is trying to persuade me to have a third with her - probably so I will pay! grin

I was 15. I think it is awful to piece the ears of a baby or child.

My 18th birthday present to me. Didn't ask my mother when under age as was quite sure permission would have been refused.

I was 16. It was a spur of the moment decision while shopping one day. My Mum was with me and thought it was very common! I had to have the simple gold wire sleepers so they could be turned each day. I bought studs a couple of months later when I got paid. My ears are still pierced but I very rarely wear earrings these days, I just don't think to put them in and I can't sleep in earrings.

I had mine pierced in my thirtìes and always wear necklace nd earing sets. Family know what to buy me for Christmas and birthdays. I love wearing them.

Purplepixie Sun 02-May-21 11:36:29

27 years old. I wanted it done when I was 17 but it took me 10 years to build up the courage. Now I never wear earrings as they hurt my ears. Shame.

HannahLoisLuke Sun 02-May-21 11:33:21

About 25. Never fancied it before but I hated the way clip on earrings hurt my ears and cut off the blood supply. Don’t always wear earrings now but when I do the holes are still there, though not obvious.

Corkie91 Sun 02-May-21 11:32:55

My parents had forbidden me to have ears pierced, so I was 15 when I went and had them done. Looking back I'm surprised they didn't make me take out the sleepers

I didn't realise it was compulsory!!

In fairness, most (not all) women have had their ears pierced. I'm sure the OP didn't mean to imply that it was compulsory.

lizzypopbottle Sun 02-May-21 11:27:05

....and even when we pointed out that royals wore earrings, she stuck to her opinion ?

Moggycuddler Sun 02-May-21 11:26:22

In my early 40s. I always sort of wanted to. I enjoyed wearing dangly earrings after that, so after a few months I had a second piercing done. So now I often wear studs and dangly ones together.

Lupin Sun 02-May-21 11:26:13

My ears remain unpierced. However I think I will get them done as a present to myself. I would love some pretty earrings now that I wear my hair short. Clip on earrings are so wretchedly uncomfortable.

lizzypopbottle Sun 02-May-21 11:24:59

My mother was of the opinion that women with pierced ears were "no better than they should be" so I was about 26 years old and married by the time I had mine done! I never wear earrings nowadays although I still have loads of pairs.

45 A present from my daughter when she was 16

granjan66 Sun 02-May-21 11:13:54

My sister pierced mine when I was in college. She was doing her nurse's training and all the nursing students were doing each other. She put an ice cube either side of my ear lobe and used a large needle sterilized in a flame. I have never had an infection with the piercings!
