Good Morning Saturday (May Day)

Ooh Hollysteers the same thing happened to us and our dishwasher. Wouldn’t drain. Tried the filter, kinked hose etc, but read in instructions online that you need to press the reset buttons. On ours it is marked which two buttons you have to hold down together (for quite a while) and magically it worked! Water drained out, and I put a descaling rinse on a hot wash (without any dishes) to clean it before using again. We’d inherited the machine with the house 7 years ago and it’s old so we’d assumed it had died, but no, it’s fine now! If yours has the same kind of buttons it might work. Good luck!

Marydoll I think I remember passing the car plant on a rare trip with my father to Scottish Cables in Renfrew where he worked from when he left school at 14 until he was made redundant or agreed some sort of early retirement deal at age 58 (apart from the war years when he was RAF ground crew). He was ready to go by then. I was married to DH and living in N. Ireland when all the big closures happened in Scotland and northern England so it all felt a bit remote.

That’s probably enough/too much of a history lesson/memory trip from me .

Good afternoon Mick and everyone. Sunny and a breeze in Cornwall. Thermometer registered 4° in my polytunnel this morning. That's low . -1° forecast for tomorrow morning. Thank goodness for the fleece that's staying around my hydrangea. Most of my seeds are in the cottage as temp is more constant in there. Cauliflowers, broccoli and toms are through.

Grey MrM heard a cuckoo this morning. Must get my hearing aids in. Poor buzzards keep getting chased and bullied by the rooks above us. All that sky and trees and they can't share peacefully.

Car till being sorted out. I feel like I'm on a desert island with not being able to get out. Nearest village would probably take nearly 45 mins (walking briskly )

No news from son about his interview and GD visit to the hospital yesterday about her heart problem found on the ECG. Apparently it's not a murmur but something to do with the lining and position of her heart. Sent a text early this morning.

Litterpicker, Linwood isn't really very near where I live, but it is ten minutes from my GP, if you know all the back roads! I go have a Glasgow postcode. You could get a map like we see on Line of Duty and use pins to mark locations, then triangulate them all! .

The Linwood no more reference refers to the former Pressed Steel/ Roots/ Talbot/ Chrysler car plant which was based there. When it shut down, many including my FIL never worked again.

Congratulations to Ginny on the birth of Charlie yesterday. What lovely news! Only just seen. Hope they are back home soon.

B9Exchange DD2 had a large haematoma on her head when she was born which looked alarming but had gone a few days later. I gave birth to her with great difficulty as she was a back to back delivery but escaped intervention somehow (DD1 was forceps for the same reason) DS in the middle was an easy birth. My new GS’s middle name is Oliver after his paternal great grandmother whose name is Olive and who is 96. Not keen on his first name though - he is Joseph to be known as Joey but I’ll get used to it.

Good morning from West Sussex where skies are blue. Yesterday DD3 and youngest GD (2) met us in our local park where we had coffee and cake outdoors in the sun. Then to the play park where GD had great fun on the slide until a big black cloud came over and raindrops started splashing on the play equipment. It got heavier and we sheltered under a tree. It turned to hailstones and GD ran out and stood laughing in the now white grass ?

Marydoll your Linwood clue has given me an ‘ear worm’ of Letter from America (Linwood no more)! What a shame about TKMax. I can picture your DH’s face because my DH would have been the same. Hope you vaccine reaction will be mild this time.

Managed to dodge the showers yesterday, with a sunny walk along the Nature reserve that backs onto Mums garden. A mooch around the Hospice charity shop where 3 items were purchased. A pair of black Jeggings £1.99 were a bargain!

No real plans today, just pottering and housework.

Wishing Ashcombe a lovely few days away, hopefully next time olddudders can join you! I am not envious at all! We are going away on 17th May to our caravan in Somerest, to see how it is doing after winter storage.

Hard to believe we had such good weather this time last year, when we were all confined to barracks!

Good Morning, Mick and everyone from a sunny Carlisle. We had frost last night and here was me thinking of getting some spring bedding plants...
All my tech is now communing with the new printer after I followed some long winded advice on the printer website. What a palaver it’s been. No wonder I dread having to update my techie things.
My last GP recommended spending 10 days on a lactose and gluten free diet to see if I felt better on it. Although I am feeling better anyway I decided to try it out starting yesterday. Result- an upset digestive system which gave me a poor night’s sleep!
I suspect the gluten-free bread which has a very long list of strange ingredients. I have fallen at the first hurdle and am returning to “proper” bread. I don’t think I have a gluten intolerance and certainly not the allergy. I have an acquaintance with coeliac disease, it’s an unenviable thing to suffer.
I will postpone the planned garden centre visit and do some gentle filing and shredding and possibly attempt the putting together of another flat pack.

It's bright sunshine at the moment in south Devon but showers are forecast.
I went out early delivering local magazines like I always do on the first of the month, aand it was quite chilly then.

A lot of cloud about with the sun reluctantly trying to shine but it's slow moving cloud so all in all not a very promising day for washing or going very far.
The furthest I'll be going is to the corner shop for milk and a top-up of cat food for the long weekend until I go to Asda again next week.

Half a leg of lamb out of the freezer for tomorrow and I fancy making some scones as yesterday when I was having a cuppa I could have just eaten a fresh scone with it. Next week I'll get some clotted cream and have my own Devon/ Cornish tea

Had a nice chat yesterday afternoon with neighbours---in the garden of course. It passed a couple of hours until tea-time.
Not sure what I'll be up to but a few more papers to shred so will learn to keep it down with no more mounds of it to do at once, burning the machine out.

So many comings and goings here with two new lives which is always lovely to hear about and of course Maw's new pal who I hope is settling into her new life.

Good morning from South Yorkshire.

It was brighter earlier, but the sky is clouding up now and I think we are forecast showers for later. It rained heavily last evening until about midnight when it stopped and dropped very chilly. I think it might even have turned frosty, which had been forecast. Very confusing for the plants, and I'm still covering over vulnerable ones at night.

Nothing exciting to report, just the same old again, so won't repeat myself.

Good morning all GNs from Welyn, Herts. It's a lovely bright, sunny morning here. Today the plan is to clean our windows downstairs on the outside, haven't seen a window cleaner around for well before Covid started so it's down to DH and myself, but shouldn't take too long with him washing and me behind drying.
Tomorrow we hope to have a garden visit with DS2 and his lovely partner, soon to become first time parents, all getting very excited.
We all need rain for the gardens etc but it's a shame it's coming on bank holiday Monday, I mean for those who go out to work and look forward to the break.

Good morning all from sunny Lancashire. Lots of fluffy white clouds scudding about though. Lovely to hear of new babies, congratulations ginny. Lots of beautiful bluebells too.

The first thing I noticed when I opened the French windows this morning was the noise. Not loud, just the sound of a few cars on the main road, a family on a bike ride, people in the car park putting walking gear on and children chattering. It’s wonderful after the silent months that seemed to go on for ever. January definitely had more than the usual number of days this year.

I’m also very happy to hear my little birds singing next to the window. There is a particular place on the guttering where they like to sit. They disappeared for a few days after we had the gutters cleaned and I was worried they wouldn’t come back. Can’t have blocked gutters though!

Good morning Mick and all from a sunny Suet on Sea on the northwest Lancashire coast.
The dishwasher is not draining the water and I can’t pull it out to follow the YouTube video, have cleaned the filter but no joy. Will have to wash the dishes by HAND until son arrives, and the Hoover is playing up. Gadgets all join up against us don’t they? But it would be sinful not to take some sun today, so will try not to think about them.
Took a pile of stuff to the charity shop yesterday, but found two pretty china pudding dishes. I’m not supposed to come away with any more clutter, but it makes life feel more like normal.
Bought two healthy chocolate bars in the health shop as well as a bottle of Honegar, which I have been taking for yonks. I can’t say I’m in better health because of it...anyway the choc bars had that healthy taste. Let’s face it, we need the devil in the chocolate, so followed it with a Cadbury’s creme egg. That was my breakfast...
Lots of people sitting out in the sun in our now trendy village, but not me, no fear, a very chill wind indeed.
Bought my £1 box of hair dye and I have blonde sprays so will take a strand at the front and spray it, hey ho, highlights! And cheap. Will return to the hairdresser s o m e d a y.
Started reading Rose Macaulay’s collected letters in the car after staggering out of the supermarket. I like her novels and these look interesting. The car book must be one I can pick up, read a few pages and put down, not fiction with a plot to follow.

Good morning from a sunny Sarthe, and Happy May Day! I am quite jealous of DW Ashcombe off to her holiday retreat for a few days. While not so very far from her rather nice flat, it is a world away in ambience. She notes the derisory Wifi, which inter alia means we cannot enjoy our daily Zoom. It probably means I will neither see nor speak to a soul until Tuesday!

Yesterday my cleaner was here - and cut my hair! It's the second time she has done so, and the result is more than passable. The previous afternoon, she and her lover had been here working on the flowerbed that used to be my pond. Her chap had brought two bucketloads of earth last year - a bucketload in this case being the front-bucket on his Manitou, a poor-man's JCB! We have now done an initial sowing of wild-flower seeds, and await results.

I am sorry that Greyduster had been awake in the night turning over a problem. They always magnify big-time in the small hours. As it happens, my cleaner had complained of the same sad problem yesterday morning, she had got up at 03.30 and done some ironing! She is Scots, and a little unusual, in that, while most cleaners live in modest circs, she owns her own house and 17 acres around it! She has been 'seeing' her married lover for 8 years, but even though he has now lived with her for almost a year, she isn't very happy. Divorce, and breaking up the business with his wife for their 400-acre farm is proving difficult. Wifey is justifiably vexatious - as we all might be - not to mention avaricious.

I shall be watching the Grand Prix this weekend. Our man Sir Lewis (I met him once, now nearly 20 years ago!) is on good form yet again. Fingers crossed.

Good morning from a sunny NE.
DH was delivered to the endoscopy unit and I was able to spend the three hours getting the house work done.
We had specifically told them at pre-assessment that he would need help dressing and undressing but no help was given. Thankfully I put him in just track suit trousers and a polo shirt.
The examination showed that there was no sinister reason for his symptoms in the bowel so we can concentrate on the parts of the body that are a problem.
I went to bed at 10.30 and slept until 4am, awake for an hour and then slept until 8am. I feel as if I have been on holiday
Will get to see my sister today as she is bringing me some bread and lettuce.

A bright good morning from DD's here in sunny ? East Northants. No-one one else up and about yet, so will wait until I hear signs of movement.

The plan today is for DD and me (I?) to go to the nearby retail park. First time back at the shops for me and I am quite excited! I have something to return to M&S, and hope I can find something to replace it. Plus a look round at all the other shops too, and coffee and a snack outside.

Hoping that we have a good May Day weekend, with a bit of warmer weather.

Good morning Mick and all from high cloud in S Hants, I must have gone back to sleep, unlike me, so very late up. gingster we watched the lasted episode on the ITV hub, in between watching my football team draw their game with 10 men. I had my toenails painted yesterday, timing was coincident with Tesco delivering so No J put shopping away, a spot of rearranging was required. No big plans today, we have rain later and I must pot on some baby veg. Have a lovely day all with new babies, dogs, family visits and walks.
