Un thé thread about names, people have been saying "I loved the name x" so I called my favourite doll by that name.

I remember I had 14 dolls. The best and biggest one was called Sue. My mother sewed some beautiful clothes for her. I had a wooden one called Peggy and my big Teddy bear was called Penny. I think there was also an Angela and a Polly. I played with them up till I was 13 or 14.

Anyone else have memories of their childhood toys to share?

My favourite was Petronella and the one I didn’t like much was Betty. Where I got Petronella from I have no clue.

I was telling DGD about an American girl at my school and couldn't remember her name - it was Petronella!

Thanks nanna8 ?

My first two dolls were Christine and Susum. My mother tried to correct me and call her Susan but apparently I was insistent, so Susum she remained.
I had a teddy and a monkey they were never given names.

Here she is.

Valerie was my first doll. She was made of pottery - I had asked Father Christmas for a small doll with lots of clothes, so I was a horrified and disappointed 4 yr old when I was given this large baby doll with one set of clothes!! About 3 years later i was given Rosebud who was plastic? Made by Rosebud so I was very inventive with the name. Also by that time I had probably lost interest in dolls. I had one teddy, but I felt sorry for a little girl who did not have a teddy so I gave mine to her - Too late, I realised I, then did not have a teddy!!

This was my favourite doll, Coralie Patricia. Mum came up with that name and I got her when I was 5 years old for Christmas (I'm now 66). I cut her long blonde hair off and had to get her a wig.

Mine was called Jennifer and she's nearly as old as me - 74. I still have her and she wears an outfit made by my grandmother. My GM also gave me one of those dolls made out of kid and with porcelain head, filled with cork and real hair. She came with a bed dressed in pink and white voile. She was given to my GM when she was a child and was in perfect condition when she was given to me. I played with her and she gradually got messed up. The only thing I have left is the bed frame, which folds up. Such a shame.
