My point is, you entered into the discussion about drugs, then dismissed it, as and when it suited.

That’s exactly what he said worriedwell, that his (heavy) use of substances/alcohol was linked to trauma. That’s very different than someone trying cannabis at a party, not liking it so never using it again.
Anyone who has worked with drug/alcohol dependents will be aware many heavy users share trauma and loss in their developmental years. Endless amounts of research confirm thst

In their “suffering” I hope they have the self awareness of their part in Harry’s suffering.

In my opinion his mother caused much of his suffering but saying this causes outrage and accusations of hate.

In my opinion his father and his extended family caused much of his suffering when they failed to provide the support needed after the death of his mother. There is substantial research to show that children withstand all sorts of trauma better if they have in their lives one caring, understanding and loving person who will provide the emotional support they need. Unfortunately there wasn't anyone there to do that for Harry. Does anyone seriously think Charles could do it???

lemsip are you saying he shouldn't talk about the problems he has had and how he failed to deal with them. Couldn't he just be trying to help others who are struggling? Haven't we moved on from "Keep quiet" and "stiff upper lip"?

This buzzword 'dysfunctional' applied to the Royal Family is such nonsense. Due to being 'royal' they have duties and responsibilities unlike any other family, they have boundaries they can't cross, they have rules they must follow, but none of this makes them dysfunctional. It just makes them very different to other families.

Yep chestnut 'dysfunctional' is the buzzword.

Regardless of their position I can see that a family where the mother left her children in the care of staff when they were young and didn't greet them with a kiss or a cuddle when she returned caused damage, a father who was disappointed in his son and sent him off to a school which he hoped would toughen him up would have caused damage. And yes they were all subjected to the norms of the time. But like many families they were dysfunctional (and I would include my own) The problem arises when people refuse to admit the problems and work on them, and I'm afraid for the RF that runs against the public profile they have been using to keep the monarchy afloat for the last 80 years.

I think the RF did the best they could for those bereaved boys,(there were two of them) as photographs of them with their father prove. Prince Philip and Queen in particular were apparently very worried and concerned for both of them,but as has been said, hind sight is a wonderful thing, and perhaps things could have done better even 25 years ago when attitudes were different. They were certainly not neglected or abused, and it's just not fair to accuse the RF of that. Diana loved her children, but did tend to use them, particularly William, to offload her failing marriage onto his very young shoulders. Harry she spoilt and encouraged him to do as he pleased so long as he didn't get caught! Both boys were extremely fond of their grandparents, which doesn't really equate with disinterest and neglect, one still is, the other? deep down,who knows?

The royal family do not give interviews on their private lives.

Diana had a mental illness before she married, life with a close family member with a mental illness can be hell.

The constant ‘she was only a child at 19’is rubbish, being 19 does not mean naive, innocent, trusting for all 19 year olds.

A mother doesn’t greet her child with a kiss and cuddle = cold and uncaring!

A mother who tells the world how disappointed her husband was when their new born baby was a boy yet also tells the world
they knew the sex of the child because of the scans = a loving
mother !

trisher I think you've been watching The Crown too much. Have you seen the footage taken from their personal home movies? There was clearly a lot of love and fun within the family, it wasn't as frosty as the public might think.
