Prince Charles and Princess Anne were not left soley in the care of Nannies when their parents were away, they were in fact left in the care of their grandmother, the late Queen Mother with whom P.C in particular had a special bond. It was she who he turned to during those Gordonstone years, as she made sure that she was living within easy reach during term time. As all children are different,Princess Anne clearly thrived on this upbringing ,Charles less so. Obviously things are done differently these days as is demonstrated in the way William and Catherine are parenting their three, but 65 years ago attitudes were very different and what would now be considered cold and uncaring, was then the norm. The Queen and Prince Philip were no different to any other upper class parents. I don't think Prince Charles would for one moment have even contemplated publicly trashing his parents still less his much loved grandmother, for his perceived childhood ills.

It is well known Charles was a sensitive child and he is a sensitive man, for this he is ridiculed .

Phillip must have been concerned that his son was sensitive but
all those years ago there was no talk of boys being sensitive, many boys were told to toughen up. Yes the choice of school was wrong for Charles but again this was over 60 years ago.

I have said before, the Queen was plonked on the throne years
before expected, only 25 and still in the shadow of the abdication.

I listened to the interview, Charles and Dimbleby, he didn’t
speak of his marriage, just said he had an affair after his marriage had broken down. No one wants to believe him because it would be accepting Diana lied.

I haven't I think ridiculed Charles at anytime. I have a certain sympathy for him, but I doubt if he had any real comprehension of how to father children. His own father being domineering and his grandfathers not being in his life.

Pretty much everything on this thread is speculation annie, we cant really know anything other than some very specific facts, it seems odd to question Trishers sources when pretty much everyone elses posts are speculation and our own interpretation.

You / we “know” as much about the private lives of any of the royals, past and present. Much of it is speculation.

Galaxy we all have opinions, trisher doubts Charles would know how to father children, I assume she wasn’t speak of sex,
I gave my opinion that a child who had an unhappy childhood
would want the opposite for his children .

I do not speculate about Diana, I have said several times I read
her book, listened to the Panorama interview and listened to the tapes recorded for the Morton Book.

Perhaps Charles being married to Camilla for over 16 years has made him view fatherhood and grandfatherhood differently? Her relaxed input must have helped him to view life in other ways to how he was brought up.

Both William and Harry appear to have a good relationship with her, despite the past, which can only be for the best.

Grany that is rather a biased article from an organisation that has one agenda. To put the record straight The Duchy of Cornwall is privately owned. It was set up in 1337 by Edward 111 as a personal endowment for his son, The Black Prince. A charter ruled that each future Duke of Cornwall would be the eldest son of the monarch and heir to the throne.

I live next to Duchy land purchased after WW2 and interestingly my deeds show the owner of the land as registered with The Land Registry to be Prince Charles. It is a feudal organisation run as a modern profit making mechanism and not all of us approve of the way it treats its tenants who are mostly too scared to speak the truth for fear of the rent going up. PC is a hypocrite when it comes to development of Duchy land and his environmental ‘ideals’ Were the monarchy to be abolished I am uncertain as to what the legal rights would be particularly with land registered to Charles and there is a hell of a lot of it but difficult to find out. Yes I think that was very spiteful, particularly when it is clear they already knew he was a boy. It smacks of being so caught up in getting one over on him that the damage to the child is completely overlooked. Well I hope it was overlooked as if she did it realising how damaging and hurtful it would be to Harry then it is totally unforgivable.

Marriages breakdown, nothing very unusual in that, but children should never be used by parents.
