A long way from the start - how far away from your birth town do you live ?

I was reading on Facebook that approximately 70% of people live within 30 miles of where they were born when they become adults. I am not sure about this. I worked out that I live approximately 10,525 miles away. I don’t know that many here who stayed near their original hometowns.
What about you ?

I'm 7 miles away and have never lived further than that (I'm 60).

Lived about 20 miles for 18 years of married life. Now live 100 miles away and it’s been as much as 300 miles. Moving soon and that will be 150 miles.

I have never thought about this before but i have lived all my life within about a 1 mile of the hospital where i was born and now live a 1 minute from where my great grandparents lived .I'm in my mid 60s and no intention of moving ,so i would say it would be hard to beat this for not moving far from where i was born .lol

I moved from S Wales to Surrey 5 years ago to be near my family but until then I had moved several times but only about 20 miles max from my place of birth. It’s lovely being near my children, I have a lovely part time job but I found it fairly hard to make friends, most of them are pleasant acquaintances really. Before COVID I drove back to see friends regularly. I have not been able to go back to visit for 17 months now. I’m a bit homesick!

I live in the town I was born and raised in here in N.I and my father was the same. I moved to England for 10 years after I married, as my ex husband's job was there, but he got a job here so we moved back. We divorced a few years later and he has stayed here, which surprised me, as I thought he would of gone back to England where he's from.

535 miles. Born in Hertfordshire to Scottish parents. Moved to the Scottish Highlands at 14 and still here (although 50 miles from where we originally moved too).

170 miles at the most but now a mere 161 miles - door to door smile.

I moved away from the North west town where I was born at the age of 16 because I moved to another town (in the midlands) where my boyfriend (and then husband) was living. When we split up five years later I moved back to be with my parents in my home town, where I have lived ever since (from age 21 to 64) and remarried. I'm glad I came home and I'd never want to live anywhere else.

About 240 miles. I was born in Hertford but moved to Torquay (out of the blue!) in 1965 after I married (for the first time!). I’ve been very happy here and never once hankered over where I grew up ...

I was born at home and live in a small village. I now live literally the other side of the railway track, a stones throw from my birth house.

I now live around 4 miles from my 'Home Town' (the place where I was born and brought up) which is an ex-Industrial Town that used to be classed as 'South Lancashire'.

For 40 years, I lived in another town about 2 miles away from where I currently live which was a suburb of Liverpool. It was a very different culture from the one that I'd grown up in.

I moved here when I retired 9 years ago because it's a bit 'closer to my roots'.

I was born in Lincolnshire & my parents moved to Shropshire when I was 3. Apart from a 3 year stint at uni, I've lived in the county ever since - 60 years. Strangely, DD now lives in Lincolnshire- it's a 3 hour journey between us.

Magrithea Wed 26-May-21 11:07:36

I live abut 70 miles now but for 20 years of my life it was more like 5,070 as we lived overseas

leeds22 Wed 26-May-21 11:07:25

240 miles. My parents (Mum from Enfield, Dad from N Yorkshire) moved from W Yorkshire after the war, thinking there would be lots of work in London in post war reconstruction. It didn’t work out for them so they moved back north when I was two. I’ve since moved further north, about 10 miles from where my Dad’s mum came from. I feel I’m back home.

Aepgirl Wed 26-May-21 11:06:19

About 50 mikes from my birth place.

Candelle Wed 26-May-21 11:06:05

2.8 miles from home to the nursing home where I was born (now a block of flats).

4.8 miles from home to my childhood house, so overall not very far at all.

Out in the country just 10 miles away from the lovely market town I was born in.......now almost totally unrecognisable after being overwhelmed by incomers
