Lilibet, the Queen’s childhood nickname is pretty and under normal circumstances it would have been a lovely touching tribute to the baby’s great grandmother, but these are not normal circumstances.

Since they left Harry and his wife have behaved appallingly, first with the spiteful Winfrey interview, followed by other unpleasant accusations to the media from a petulant Prince Harry.

Somehow the choice of name seems, well incongruous.

Yes, a "useful" choice. As the domain "lilibetdiana.com" was registered in America on the day the baby was born, long before the birth or names were announced, I assume the name is going to be "monetised".

Agreed. It seems they told the Queen about the name beforehand but that is very different from asking whether she minds them using it! It all happened very quickly too it seems. So telling the Queen they were using it is definitely not good enough I feel, while asking her would require a personal conversation between them. I can't see that happening after all their recent revelations.
The difference between telling her and asking her is critical I think.

Perhaps if the media refer to the baby just as Lili, which I understood was what they intended to call her, it would calm things down. It does seem an act of spite rather than a compliment after the way they have behaved.

Do you say this to people you meet in the street who tell you what their baby's name is? Or is it just when you know they won't hear you?

I’ve heard so many grandparents say this to expecting parents.

As a result so many don’t discuss names so that it’s already sorted and no amount of whining can change it.

Trying to be charitable here. Perhaps lilibetdiana has been registered to prevent anyone using it commercially.

To stop other people using it.

In this day and age it is quite common for the marketing/PR department of a company to buy up domaine names. Yes, it prevents other people from using them as imposters, but also by getting in first it means you don't have to then pay through the nose to buy it for yourself. Very often it links back to your main business site anyway.
I think that may be the perceived problem. That the baby's names are being used in a commercial way. However, Meghan and Harry do not have to use the domaine. It can just lie dormant.

If William and Kate had picked those names, the tabloids would be gushing

I don't agree that the tabloids would be gushing if W & K had picked that name having publicly trashed the RF, including the Queen whose name has been chosen.

I agree, my daughter has already said she has a secret baby name list. I’ve said I don’t want to know or for the poor child to have my name in the mix. I don’t care what they call him/her as long as they arrive safely x

These examples pertain to members of your families. Not random people whom you've never met.

Compassion in action

There was no compassion shown by Harry or Meghan towards their relatives, either his or hers. I would describe what they have done to both families as cruel. My opinion only of course. Others may think they’ve been wonderfully compassionate towards their families.

Why would others want it?

The domain name is parked. How do people know who owns it? It could be somebody hoping to sell it the the Sussexes for an inflated amount. Happens all the time to celebrities.

I am not sharing my opinion on this, but I can tell you it is common practice for celebrities and corporations to buy domains of names in order to stop others from buying them and monetizing them.

People make a LOT of money off buying and selling domain names here. If someone gets lucky and predicts something a celebrity or company wants and has a DN parked, they could auction it off for a very high price.

America is another country. They do things differently there.

Alegrias and I explained yesterday, you register a domaine which could potentially become a goldmine as well as being useful to you.
(As an example, we bought one using the name of our village over 20 years ago when folk weren't so savvy. Suddenly years later people wanted it for their businesses.)
I'm guessing M & H's team registered it the second Lili was born. The registration is public but I am not sure whether it states the names of the owners?

It was uplifting to see that the parents of Lilibet, are going to lead by example and take 20 weeks parental leave from what exactly? and I have no doubt such a move, inspired by the initiatives taken on Planet Harry and Meghan as described on the Archewell website, large magnanimous multi nationals, such as Amazon for example, will I imagine be gagging to follow suit and grant their workforce spousal leave as and when birthing people and their birthing spouses on zero hours contracts require it and no doubt they can be assured of .........er let me think, oh yes zero pay!

Now who was that complacent 12 job numbskull former Chancellor cushioned by his family squillions, who coined that apt little phrase "We're all in this together" to succinctly sum up the situation at the time???
