The preparations for the Golf Open are gathering apace. For the last three months, huge lorries have been going past the house full of “stuff”. A large village is developing on the site. Now, we have even more traffic. The Open starts today next week - there will be even more going on, crowds, buses, helicopters…
When I followed DS1 to Dover to return his hire car, a sudden sea mist hit us. It wasn’t dangerous, but very disconcerting.
Nothing happening today. Disguised leftovers for dinner.

Good Morning all from Whitehaven where we are staying in readiness for DH to begin his C2C cycle ride later this morning.
I will be his support crew in the car, but I do have plans to visit the Upfront Gallery whilst on my travels!!

Yesterday was such a sad day all round. I said goodbye to my DD and DGD and after reading JaxJacky’s post in soops kitchen last night, I just want to send a big comforting hug to her and her family this morning.

I hope your GD had a comfortable night Jax and the hospital reassessment of her burns is positive. I’ll pop back here and into the kitchen tonight for your news and read everyone else’s.

Good morning, everyone, from an overcast start in Crewe, too, Mick.

Yesterday, I spent quietly enjoying views of the garden, including the comical sight of two wood pigeons attempting to copulate, precariously perched on the fence! Much flapping of wings before they fell out of sight into the garden next door!

In the evening we were joined by the in-laws of my DD2 and I treated us all to a Chinese takeaway, during which we had some heavy showers. That put paid to the bonfire next door which had burned since early afternoon, emanating a disgusting smell!

The usual football training and dance classes will occupy much of the day for DGS2 and DGD but DD2 and I will enjoy some time together. Last night she regaled us with the latest from her school.

A teacher had helped herself to alstroemerias recently bought by DD2 for the staff room and was using them in a Science lesson involving Y3 children dissecting them! This was annoying but also worrying as they are toxic to touch and can cause rashes, etc! DD2 had to close down the lesson in the two parallel classes and all the flowers were binned. What a waste, not least because they generally last for a few weeks!

Good morning from a damp and overcast Essex by the sea.
We are going to DD2 later this morning in Kent and this afternoon to my middle brother's 60th, he lives nearby. It's an outdoor party but the forecast is for thundery showers ?☂️?.
This evening we will be watching the big game with DD2 and SIL, come on England ??.
I hope your granddaughter is OK Jax ?.

Good morning everyone from a damp Northampton. Yesterday was lovely, sunny blue skies all day, but rather humid as I realised when I cut the grass. I then spent an hour or two pruning, weeding and trimming overgrown shrubs next to the garage. Had an afternoon outside reading and listening to the radio.

Going to DS's this afternoon to see DGD2 who turned 11 on Thursday. Hopefully there will be cake! Will see if DD will give me a lift as rain is forecast. Apart from that a day of nothing much apart from the Saturday papers and reading.

Good morning from a very wet south Cornwall. Am hoping our first allotment coffee morning for 18 months won't be cancelled because of the rain. Also, my son, his friend and their five year old daughters are going camping on Bodmin Moor so the rain will make that interesting!

grandMattie your sea mist comment reminded me that when I was married and we had a lovely Mevagissey day boat we were in Falmouth bay and a sea mist descended, totally from nowhere, like a heavy blanket. No sight, no sound. Now, usually I don't scare at all (except with big spiders) but it was terrifying. We just dropped anchor until it went but we were vulnerable.

Anyway, a safer day I'm sure today! The best of days to all of you, especially where there are troubles.

Good morning everyone from Inverness where we’ve light cloud but quite a bit cooler than the last few days
We had another good but busy day yesterday, looking after the DGC in the morning and then an enjoyable neighbours outdoor get together in the evening where I caught up on all the local news. We set our own tables and chairs up on the front lawns with drinks and nibbles. A few of the neighbours are quite musical so we had the wee street band playing drums and guitar most of the evening too. All good fun and a lovely evening
Today I’m taking DGD to her dance class and a bit of shopping in town but nothing much else planned

Good Morning everyone from Severnside. It’s dull and raining.

I was very early for my mammogram appointment yesterday and there was no one waiting so I was able to go straight in. They must have everyone’s appointment well spaced out.

After I visited a B&M and bought a garden hose. The one I already have is very heavy so I thought I’d try one of those concertina ones. I have read mixed reviews on them though.

Good morning Mick and All from a cloudy West Berkshire.

Well we managed our stint looking after our 2 DGSs 10 and 8 whilst their Dad was away. We got into a complete muddle with what clothes they should wear at school or take to school each day - uniform, or keep fit, or swim gear plus footie kit. They were very patient with us and calmly explained each day the different combinations. I see the roles reversing ?

We will go and watch them in the footie tournament today before going home tomorrow. A bit of family normality has crept into our life ?

Electricians came and went yesterday, chaotic as predicted but good to have the work done. Carpenters here this morning to quote to hang new doors. I’ve some admin to catch up with, our goddaughter wants a chat (offload!) and Mr C is wielding a paint brush. The day will pass quickly enough. No football for us this evening, will find a film to watch.

Your evening sounds really enjoyable brook, good luck with the weather for your coffee session Alizarin, the sea mist rolls in here at times, grandMattie, it is eerie although I love walking in the beach in it, enjoy the sense of separation.

Hoping that the news of Jaxjacky's granddaughter is positive today and more hopeful news on Grannyactivist's wee DGD, who is in ICU in NZ. Worrying times for both families.

All my fears about speaking to my RA consultant yesterday were unfounded, he was lovely! I have nothing but admiration for the way, he so efficiently, but tactfully managed to curtail my ramblings. . My previous consultant, of whom I am very fond of, never quite mastered that art!
The news wasn't so positive, but I managed to get quite a lot of questions answered,
As well as a new hip, I also now need an op on my foot, which I have declined for various reasons. The good news is that he offered me steroid injections in my hands!

There was some slightly positive news concerning my worry about the efficacy of the vaccine,. He did confirm, that due to being immunosuppressed, the vaccine won't protect me as it will most people, but it will offer some protection. That wasn't a surprise, just confirmed what I already suspected. Also I got more information from him about my heart scans, than I did from my cardiologist!

The situation in the Dollhouse became quite fraught last night. Although our kitchen was refitted about two years ago, I never got the cooker splashback, I have lusted after. Mr Doll, kept procrastinating. ? It had to be done in the evening, because it takes 24hrs to dry, so I wouldn't be able to use the range.
Well yesterday was the day! After being delivered two weeks ago, it has been lying there just taunting me!! You will not be surprised that it turned out to be another stressful and damaging episode in our marriage! Problem solving, forward planning and good listening are not Mr Perfect's forte. ? Thank goodness I am extremely skilled in that area! ?
I won't bore you with the details, of matchsticks, skewers, masking tape which wouldn't stick, ĢLUE on marble work tops and taps, multitudinous tongue biting etc, etc. ?. I do hope divorce lawyers are open for consultations on a Saturday. ? Visible glue lines on the splashback ( I did warn him) are not a good look. ?

Good morning from a dry NE.
I watered all the pots on the patio at teatime last night, put the watering can away and by the time I had washed my hands it was raining. Well that was a waste of time.
Sat down to watch Coronation Street last night to find I had 45 minutes of football because I record everything to avoid the adverts. DH tells me there is another match on tonight, perhaps I will look for a film on Netflix.

Good morning from a dreary Essex. Yesterday was beautiful and my friend and I walked the dogs over the woods and common. The English countryside is so glorious especially at this time of year. ???.

We had a lovely lunch with old pals outside a country pub . The only trouble was sitting on hard benches without backs. After 2 hours my bottom was numb and my back was stiff. Next time I’ll take a cushion.

DD, Partner and little Dg have gone to Norfolk Butlins for a long weekend . The twin Gs (15) are-doing mock GCSE’s so have gone to stay with friends. They came to me straight from school , had a shower, ate sausage and mash, left their uniforms to be washed and off they went. I hope they all have a great weekend ?.

An easy day today. Watch tennis -( what’s the up to date news on Murray?) . Read a new book and papers. Thunderstorms forecast.
Will have a call from nephew and wife and will hear how their week went at our cottage by the sea.

Good morning Mick, morning all from South Lanarkshire where the temperature has dropped several degrees.

We had a wee jaunt to Ikea yesterday, I managed not to buy any more scissors but did pick up lots of tea towels and a few hand towels for the kitchen and downstairs loo. I always enjoy a mooch around, they are so clever with storage.

Nothing much happening today, ironing and bedding if I can summon the inclination.

Re. Sea mist. I’m very used to them having lived in Jersey, CI, for some 4 years. The number of times the island was brought to a standstill for several days with sea mist..

It's a wet and grey morning here in South Yorkshire and is set for the day as "showers" though I suspect it will be mire prolonged, and thunder storms thus afternoon. It already feels quite muggy.

So sorry to hear about your GD Jaxjacky and also GrannyActivists GD. I hope there is positive news for both very soon.

Well I'm pleased I got the front and back lawns completed yesterday along with a few other jobs before the return of the rain, although that will just mean it grows back even more quickly! The hedges are next for another trim, but will have to wait for a drier day. Today, I'll make do with indoor jobs and reading a book, I think. Oh, and try to find Gardeners Workd on iPlayer, as, surprise, surprise, the tennis and its following inquest took precedence over it being shown on the tv last night.

Hope you'll be able to remove the glue on your splashback with some glue remover, Marydoll. I well understand why Mr Marydoll might be in your bad books just now! ?

Good morning Mick and all from a cloudy S Hants, we’ve had some rain overnight.
Thank you for your good wishes for Imogen, our granddaughter, 13. She spilt a jug full of boiling water down her, from hip to mid thigh yesterday, ambulance to A&E, paramedics applied some coated gauze stuff and she had morphine. In hospital they removed the skin ?, she had gas and air, there is a reassessment at 5 today. DD rang me soon after it happened, then I waited, which was the worse bit, they were home after 4 hours. It’s DD’s 34th birthday today too!
A good result Marydoll considering your trepidation. grandMattie MrJ will be keenly following the golf, he ‘subtly’ hinted he needs a new putter after he played yesterday, his birthday is soon.
muse hope your leg is healing, a sad farewell yesterday.
Our plans today will be flexible, dropping card to DD where we’ll see Imogen this morning and her brother, we’re out for a late lunch at 2.

Morning from S Lanarkshire, showers forecast so I’ll just have to hope we are lucky when I go with DD1 and two oldest GDs for a visit and lunch to Dawyck Gardens in the Borders.
The girls have just finished school so this is to mark the official start of their holidays and I am looking forward to the time in their company.

It will also be a welcome break from the builders yard that is my garden at the moment. I think my garden room will be just as I had hoped but it has taken longer than planned and I have had a couple of bad moments, especially with a tricky neighbour.
I have to go and choose vinyl for the floor this morning so I had better start moving.
