Welcome to Thread II!

We companionably mused, gossiped and waffled about Royalty, and vaguely related things for 1000 posts!

Starting with names; and ending on them them…
and in between covered everything from Adam Faith to Scottish Country Dancing!

So, as before, God Bless this Ship and All who Sail in her! ??

Garnet for me its my birthstone too.

FannyCornforth Sun 11-Jul-21 12:32:09

My birthstone too!
Much nicer than rubies I think.
I don’t really get the popularity of emeralds and rubies

LauraNorder Sun 11-Jul-21 12:38:53

I’m a garnet girl too

Namsnanny Sun 11-Jul-21 12:39:17

'Ethical diamonds' is usually a euphemism for man made.
But thank you for info on CD. Maybe not in her case case?

My Dad was a mining engineer, for a time he worked in the diamond mines of Northern Rhodesia, now Zambia. We were then living in Liverpool. He smuggled a diamond home in his shoe, I know he was a very norty boy. He wanted to have a ring made for my mother who was such a goody two shoes and terrified of him being arrested that, on bin collection day, she wrapped in newspaper and put it in the bin. I remember there was a huge row that went on for months until he went away again.
I wonder if it was ever found.

Sapphires or amethysts. I like opals, but every time I wore my opal pendant, someone would tell me that opals were unlucky. It quite spoiled my enjoyment.

Glad there is a second thread.

I have a tiara, !

I know you do Annie as I saw you wearing it last week when you put the bins out.?

Laura ? what was your Mother thinking?!
Remember the Paul Simon song Diamonds On The Soles Of My Shoes from his South African LP/CD ?

FannyCornforth Sun 11-Jul-21 13:33:11

Laura Mr C has a very similar background as your dad.
He was an engineer for Rio Tinto in Rhodesia in the sixties and early seventies. He was very naughty too!
However , his then wife had a very different moral compass to your mother; so likewise, we have no idea what happened to the gems either!

lemongrove Sun 11-Jul-21 13:33:52

The ‘award’ will make amusing chatter if Meghan produces twins next year.?

FannyCornforth Sun 11-Jul-21 13:35:05

Yes Fanny living in Lemongrove Manor I am required to look my best, but I only wear my tiaras ( not all at once) on two occasions.....on my birthday, and when it’s not my birthday.

FannyCornforth Sun 11-Jul-21 13:47:17

I’m really hankering after a tiara now…

Mollygo Sun 11-Jul-21 13:49:58

I still have the one I wore for my wedding. Not really valuable, except perhaps as a antique.

maddyone Sun 11-Jul-21 14:32:20

Apparently older mothers are more likely to produce twins. I bet you didn’t know that! I didn’t, until last week. My daughter has twins, but she wasn’t an older mother.

When I was out shopping for the first time with our new baby, a boy, (we already had a daughter), we saw an old neighbour who congratulated us and said “You’ve got a pigeon pair, you want to stop there”.

I’ve never forgotten his words. Two children were enough for us to bring up reasonably comfortably, healthy, one of each, what more could we want?

The saying apparently is old folk lore. Pigeons lay two eggs, a male and a female. I have no idea if it’s true, but it’s a nice idea.

?(I know this is not a pigeon).

LauraNorder Sun 11-Jul-21 15:06:20

Fanny my dad was in Ndola in the sixties

Lucca Mon 12-Jul-21 08:12:10

Lucca Mon 12-Jul-21 08:16:41

Lucca Mon 12-Jul-21 08:17:22

Or if you’re on a budget

Lucca Mon 12-Jul-21 08:17:53

Aaaargh ! Stupid thing didn’t post first time

FannyCornforth Mon 12-Jul-21 09:25:59

Thank you Lucca! I hadn't heard of that website. I've been looking on Amazon, and I'm surprised how many there are.
The tiara wearing community must be larger than I previously thought.

FannyCornforth Mon 12-Jul-21 09:30:48

I've just been reading the 'William at the Football' thread, and I was going to respond to Alegrias' comment, but I'll do it here instead.

I've got a long held theory / prediction about Prince George.

I don't think that he will be king, or if he is, it will be short lived.
I think that Charlotte will be Queen, and a rather marvellous one.
It's just a feeling I've got.
