Welcome to Thread II!

We companionably mused, gossiped and waffled about Royalty, and vaguely related things for 1000 posts!

Starting with names; and ending on them them…
and in between covered everything from Adam Faith to Scottish Country Dancing!

So, as before, God Bless this Ship and All who Sail in her! ??

I've got to clear a few things up about Mr C's doings in SA.
He wants to make it clear that he paid for the gems, it was all above board (I've definitely got my doubts)
And they were not diamonds, they were emeralds.

Annie I didn't think of him dying young before.
I did think of the opting out thing.
I think that by the time that George's turn rolls around, there won't be so much a belief in 'destiny'.
It might be considered more of a job.
Especially with the potential rise of republicanism.

Alegrias1 Mon 12-Jul-21 09:41:38

If George doesn't want the job and retires to SA to produce ethical diamonds, how will the nation react shock

Accusations of lack of duty? Unfairness to his lovely parents?

It hasn't gone down well with the public for others who wanted out.

Anniebach Mon 12-Jul-21 09:41:56

Yes he may opt out and Charlotte may marry and move to another country.

Lucca Mon 12-Jul-21 09:43:24

Well, we shall never know…..

Lucca

Well, we shall never know…..

sad
It does seem a pity that they don't get the gig when they are ripe and ready for it.
Nothing against Charles, but William and Catherine seem absolutely right for the role now.

Alegrias1 Mon 12-Jul-21 09:51:55

Its an inherited monarchy Fanny

If only we had a way of deciding who was going to be HoS wink

FannyCornforth Mon 12-Jul-21 09:52:28

I realise that I have just referred to our future King and his wife in terms of avocados

JenniferEccles Mon 12-Jul-21 09:56:51

But would William and Catherine want it right now?
I doubt it.

Avocados are not picked when they are absolutely ripe and just ready.

Just saying.

maddyone Mon 12-Jul-21 10:04:13

Lucca’s right. Unfortunately we’ll never know. Que sera sera.

FannyCornforth Mon 12-Jul-21 10:06:47

Callistemon
The blooming things in actuality ever 'ripe and ready', and if they are, it's within a time slot of approximately 40 minutes

Callistemon Mon 12-Jul-21 10:08:04

We only get rubbish avocados here, FannyCornforth.

FannyCornforth Mon 12-Jul-21 10:08:40

My maths is appalling.
Can someone give an approximate ballpark figure of when William and George may become king please?

Anniebach Mon 12-Jul-21 10:12:42

How long is a piece of string !

Alegrias1 Mon 12-Jul-21 10:14:36

William, 2050.

George, 2080

Shall we have a sweepstake? grin

FannyCornforth Mon 12-Jul-21 10:33:19

Thanks Alegrias
But that means Charles will be king until he is 101! shock

FannyCornforth Mon 12-Jul-21 10:35:12

Ok, I'm going for William 2032

Alegrias1 Mon 12-Jul-21 10:55:23

FannyCornforth

Thanks Alegrias
But that means Charles will be king until he is 101! shock

Granny lived to 102, dad to 99. 101 is eminently possible, I would think!

maddyone Mon 12-Jul-21 11:04:20

Yeah, let’s have a sweepstake. Unfortunately none of us will be here to claim the winnings.

Anniebach Mon 12-Jul-21 11:09:55

Nooo, we can’t bet on when people will die ?

Alegrias1 Mon 12-Jul-21 11:11:38

Its the nature of inherited monarchy Anniebach.

Actually, I never bet on anything, I hate gambling. But I do have a sense of humour. hmm

maddyone Mon 12-Jul-21 11:14:39

I don’t gamble either Annie, I was just having a joke.
Anyway, judging by his relatives, I think Charles could well reign for a good twenty years or more. I’m not sure I’ll still be here to see William crowned as that would probably require me to live at least another 25 years. I’m 68, it’s probably unlikely.
