Welcome to Thread II!

We companionably mused, gossiped and waffled about Royalty, and vaguely related things for 1000 posts!

Starting with names; and ending on them them…
and in between covered everything from Adam Faith to Scottish Country Dancing!

So, as before, God Bless this Ship and All who Sail in her! ??

Can they all vote Annie?
Even Charles? Could Philip; the Queen Mother?

Ellianne Fri 16-Jul-21 08:09:31

Surely they would want to vote for Mayor of London at least?

Anniebach Fri 16-Jul-21 08:09:51

Fanny I am trying to recall what was discussed 50 years ago,
the Welsh Nationalists we’re trying to blow up lakes, reservoirs,!

I know the monarch must be above politics but not the rest ,
suppose Charles couldn’t become king if he was involved in
politics ,

FannyCornforth Fri 16-Jul-21 08:15:26

I have just had a quick google and it seems that they (except for the monarch) technically can vote, but ‘choose not to’.
Obviously, I’m not very clued up on this, I’ll try to find out more

Mollygo Fri 16-Jul-21 08:51:05

Can you imagine the press outside the polling station if the RF went to vote? There’s enough fuss about some MPs going to vote. We may never know if the RF vote by postal vote.

Anniebach Fri 16-Jul-21 08:55:59

I am sure if they voted by post the newspapers would pay generously for inside info.

Ellianne Fri 16-Jul-21 08:56:53

And would The Queen turn up with her dorgies wearing bandanas like Boris did with Dillon?

Blossoming Fri 16-Jul-21 09:10:42

The Royal Family has the right to vote as it’s stipulated in human rights legislation. I can’t remember which Act or Convention, sorry. As Head of State the monarch has to be outside politics though.

Rosycheeks Fri 16-Jul-21 09:52:33

Would The Queen turn up at the polling station in a Tiara or a scarf and wax coat jump out of her land Rover with Princess Anne telling the press to "NAFF OFF!". I would pay to see that.

Ellianne Fri 16-Jul-21 09:57:43

grin
And would the royal men turn up in military uniform to show off their medals?

Mollygo Fri 16-Jul-21 10:15:21

Rosycheeks ???

LauraNorder Fri 16-Jul-21 10:52:14

Enter Laura, stage right, carrying large spoon…
As an American citizen but also a member of the royal family can Meghan vote in the U.K.
Is she likely to vote for the Monster Raving Loony Party as the founder has a title.
Diamond encrusted hard hat in place.

Mollygo Fri 16-Jul-21 11:15:24

LauraNorder no! She might not do that, but we would certainly hear every party claiming she’d voted for them!

Rosycheeks Fri 16-Jul-21 11:18:23

Well that would be another vote for them. I wonder who does vote for the OMRLP and if they think they will really win? What would happen if they did win a general election? hmm would we all have to wear top hats and outfits that look like Morris Dancers.(no offence to Morris Dancers by the way).

Blossoming Fri 16-Jul-21 12:05:11

Is Meghan a UK citizen now? She’d have to register to vote here. I wonder if Buckingham Palace, Windsor Castle et al are listed as addresses on the electoral register. That would be interesting reading. Presumably they have live-in staff with voting rights.

Calendargirl Fri 16-Jul-21 12:12:50

Her application for citizenship seemed to die a quiet death when they upped sticks and moved to California.

So no, don’t think we’ll be seeing Meghan casting her vote over here anytime soon.

Anniebach Fri 16-Jul-21 12:15:18

Does she not want to be America’s President

Rosycheeks Fri 16-Jul-21 13:23:12

What would Harry be if she was POTUS (got that from The West Wing) 1st Gentleman?

LauraNorder Fri 16-Jul-21 13:28:44

Going on past history Rosiecheeks I think ‘gentleman’ might be a stretch.

Anniebach Sat 17-Jul-21 11:58:29

Wishing Camilla a happy birthday

Sparklefizz Sat 17-Jul-21 13:13:18

Can it be true that H&M want Lilli to be Christened in Windsor in front of the Queen after all they have said? (or is it fake news?)

Anniebach Sat 17-Jul-21 14:42:30

Wouldn’t surprise me, it will get them on the front pages

Sparklefizz Sat 17-Jul-21 14:45:00

Yes, Annie, and it will reiterate their connection to the Queen for their "brand" and all the benefits this gives them.

Anniebach Sat 17-Jul-21 15:08:07

Agree Sparklefizz and how they forgive the racist family who
kept Meg a prisoner and refused help when she was suicidal ?

Ghastly couple

maddyone Sat 17-Jul-21 18:22:16

Why would they want baby Lili Christened in Windsor and in front of the Queen? Oh yes, silly me, I forgot, the royal connection again of course. And if the Queen was there it would suggest that she approves of the use of her pet name, Lilibet! The Queen was not present at the Christenings of Archie or Louis, and so if she were present, it would certainly suggest approval. If I was her, I wouldn’t go as it could be argued that she no longer attends royal Christenings, having missed the last two.
Why don’t they get her Christened in America, they do have churches there, even Anglican ones!
