Well, what a surprise!

To see that Mawbe had posted a birthday message to me on Wednesday 4th August!

I had quite a few surprises that day!smile When Mr P opened the front door to let Oliver Sprout in (he was rather a soggy moggy, his own fault for for going out in the rain. He does it because he likes being rubbed dry!)

But I digress. Mr P said "I think you'd better come and have a look. So being in an affable sort of mood, I did.

Well, you could have knocked me down with a Tena Lady wrapper!

There was a cluster of balloons with helium numbers 6 &3 attached, a rather small balloon arch (handy if you were expecting a visit from a troop of little people, which I believe is the correct term to use, and a good hostess should always be ready to cater for all types of guest. None arrived though.confused ) and a beautiful plant.

Later a friend arrived with a delicious apple and almond tray bake, complete with candles and sparklers! grin, then another friend with flowers and champagne!

I had lots of cards (more than usual) and Mr P cooked a delicious mealsmile

It really was a fabulous birthday, which was great, because you see it will be my last.

I was diagnosed with terminal cancer back in mid December and despite the best efforts of all staff involved, the prognosis given during my last consultation in July, was that I had about 3 months sad

I won't bore you with details of the various treatments I had, but will reassure you that I'm still pottering about and enjoying what I do.smile

Please don't inundate me with PM's. I would feel that I had to respond to each one,and my time and energy have to be used carefully these days (quite interesting planning ones own funeral though wink ) but I will read any posts on this thread.

With love, and every good wish for a successful gammon at Christmas!

Phoenix ,
I hope you continue to be surrounded with love and good humour for what time remains.
I would wish you more time on this mortal earth but we are given what we are given.
It is typical of you to take what you are offered and make the most of it. You are a courageous and lovely Lady. ?
Happy (belated) Birthday. ?? ?

Kate1949 Fri 06-Aug-21 18:34:41

I too always found your posts funny and witty and if I am remembering correctly, some of great sadness. Sending all good wishes.

Happy birthday Phoenix.
Enjoy your lovely celebration. ?

Thank you all!

I'm not brave at all really.

From the time I was diagnosed I've thought "well, this is the hand I've been dealt, I've got to decide how to play it." So, can I change it? No. The only thing I can change is my attitude to it.

When I lost my hair after chemo I didn't weep and wail, what was the point? It wouldn't bring it back! So I looked on Amazon and bought some wigs! grin

Ok, a lot of them were sent back, but I ended up with a couple of decent ones, one was £21 and the other was £16shock

Thank you all for your posts, I am truly touched.

The mentions of Oliver Sprout make me realise I haven't included Minnie! She's a rather small little black cat, another one from Cats Protection, I'm sure we must have had her for 2 years at least! She's a little baggage, but very sweet and affectionate. I'm sure you will hear more about her now I'm posting again.

She's also a bit of a tart blushand happy to climb all over visitors, as the Hospice Nurse found out the other day.

Framilode Fri 06-Aug-21 19:48:37

I have always enjoyed your posts and I admire your attitude. Stay strong.

ginny Fri 06-Aug-21 19:50:37

So sorry to hear this but wishing you love and happiness for all of your days. ?

Spinnaker Fri 06-Aug-21 19:51:59

Saddened to hear this Phoenix, I have missed your wonderful posts on GN these past months.

I remember a few years ago (under a different GN name) saying in a thread that I had never received a PM and you and one other sent me a very kind message to make me feel welcome. Such kindness from an obviously kind natured lady.

Take care Phoenix flowers

Deedaa Fri 06-Aug-21 19:52:11

Oh phoenix I can't believe it! No more adventures with underwear on trains, no more stories about Oliver Sprout! I'm so glad you had a lovely birthday and hope you can enjoy the rest of the "summer". We are going to miss you so much, I always think of the gammon when I'm cooking Christmas dinner. There is so much love for you in all these comments XXX
