To see that Mawbe had posted a birthday message to me on Wednesday 4th August!
I had quite a few surprises that day!
When Mr P opened the front door to let Oliver Sprout in (he was rather a soggy moggy, his own fault for for going out in the rain. He does it because he likes being rubbed dry!)
But I digress. Mr P said "I think you'd better come and have a look. So being in an affable sort of mood, I did.
Well, you could have knocked me down with a Tena Lady wrapper!
There was a cluster of balloons with helium numbers 6 &3 attached, a rather small balloon arch (handy if you were expecting a visit from a troop of little people, which I believe is the correct term to use, and a good hostess should always be ready to cater for all types of guest. None arrived though.
) and a beautiful plant.
Later a friend arrived with a delicious apple and almond tray bake, complete with candles and sparklers!
, then another friend with flowers and champagne!
I had lots of cards (more than usual) and Mr P cooked a delicious meal
It really was a fabulous birthday, which was great, because you see it will be my last.
I was diagnosed with terminal cancer back in mid December and despite the best efforts of all staff involved, the prognosis given during my last consultation in July, was that I had about 3 months
I won't bore you with details of the various treatments I had, but will reassure you that I'm still pottering about and enjoying what I do.
Please don't inundate me with PM's. I would feel that I had to respond to each one,and my time and energy have to be used carefully these days (quite interesting planning ones own funeral though
) but I will read any posts on this thread.
With love, and every good wish for a successful gammon at Christmas!

phoenix I'm sad to hear of your health news, but glad to hear you enjoyed your birthday.
Thank you for sharing this with us Pheonix. I’m shocked to read of your prognosis but so glad that you had a fabulous birthday.
Thank you too for the laughs you have given me ?
I think most of us had no idea that you were ill Phoenix but just taking a break from GN and working...so sad to read what is happening to you.I always thought one day I would get down to Devon and meet you for a drink at some point.
You sound sanguine about things, and that is a sort of bravery you know.
Only post on GN if you really want to, everyone will understand.
Love and a virtual hug my friend.
Oh, Phoenix, I do not know what to say, which shows how saddened I was to here your news.
May the road rise up to meet you. May the wind be always at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face; the rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of His hand.^
Thank you Phoenix for the pleasure you have given us with your posts - keep ‘um coming. ?
I am so sorry to read this post and have a tear in my eye. I feel like I’d love to give you a big hug . I’m quite new here too but the impression I get is that you are a larger than life character. It sounds like you’ve taken the cards you’ve been dealt on the chin like a trouper.
You had a wonderful Birthday nothing less than you deserve.
I’m wishing you lots of love and enjoy every day God blesses you with surrounded by loved ones. ??
I, like others, was so very happy to see you posting again but had no idea of the journey you have travelled. Your humour and your natural talent for putting a comical spin on the most mundane of domestic events made GN a much better place, even if it did get us into bother. I send you and Mr P, Oliver Sprout & Minnie enough love and fortitude to help you through the weeks ahead
You have a lovely sense of humour and have made many of us smile. Every time I cook gammon I will think of you ?
No words, just
.
I read threads more than I add to them and always enjoyed your amusing messages. I’m so very sorry to hear your news but am looking forward to reading more posts from you now you’re on here again. What wonderful warm comments from grans proving just how much you’re loved. x
I’m more of a reader than a poster since I joined 18 months ago and I always enjoy reading your humorous posts Phoenix. I noticed your recent absence and hoped maybe you were just having a break.
I’m so sad to read your post this evening. Wishing you love and continued strength. You are a very special lady who is much loved on Gransnet.
Sounds like you had a wonderful birthday Phoenix.
May I add my virtual hug to the humans and felines in the Phoenix family.
Phoenix you haven’t told us the colour of your wigs…..somehow, having enjoyed your posts, I cannot imagine they are of the staid variety! Glad your birthday was good!
So sorry to hear your news. I remember you from way back when i was etheltbags. Glad you enjoyed your birthday, i hope your treatment is not too bad and you have some lovely days ahead with your family. X
Really sorry to hear your news phoenix. Like others, I have missed and shall miss your posts. Delighted, though, that you had a brilliant birthday.
When my cousin's daughter was planning her funeral, she insisted that they serve really good bacon rolls at the 'bunfight' afterwards. They brought smiles and much appreciation. I hope you plans will include some surprises!
I hope you can enjoy the rest of your time with your familyy. You will be greatly missed on GN. Your birthday sounds lovely, heartwarming. Wishing you a soft landing
So sad to hear your news. May all your days be filled with love, sunshine and happiness. xx
Ah, Deedaa it's been a long time since I had an "incident" with under wear on a train!
My most recent job didn't require travelling or smart suits but I always wore under wear!
phoenix - so sad to hear your news - there are no words but love and prayers winging your way
What a splendid post - an inspiration to us all. The power of humour; and the joy of writing talent is all there for the reader. Thank you.
I will look forward to your posts - and Happy Belated Birthday wishes. xx
phoenix, I think of you every time I use a train loo and probably always will. Thank you for all the smiles- and occasional shrieks of laughter - your postings have given me over the years.
You are loved; you will be missed but go in peace, knowing that, whatever your own troubles, you have brought sunshine to so many.
Love you Phoenix. I'll be forever grateful that you've been my pal; too many happy, ridiculous and funny things to post here but will always be remembered and with me forever. Cx
Oh phoenix, no words but thinking of you ?.
Dear Phoenix I was so pleased to see your post after all this time, then as I read further, shocked and saddened. I do admire your "attitude" and humour, facing up to this situation.
Your posts over the years have been one of the best bits of Gransnet for me. You were kind and supportive to me (in a previous GN life).
You leave a great legacy of funny stories. I'm sure we will all Curse the Gammon at Christmas, and drink a toast to you. Lots of love
You’re a true inspiration phoenix. Your post made me smile and then shed a tear. I know you’ll take as much enjoyment as you can from each day, a brave woman. My love to you and your husband.
